The local creature of the Yaeyama Islands is the coconut crab. Because they are nocturnal, they spend their time during the day hiding under Pandanus trees, under dead leaves, or on rocks. At night, they become active and eat Pandanus trees. It is hard to find them on Honshu, so I went looking for them. First, I went to the Nakamoto Coast area of ​​Kuroshima, where there are many Pandanus trees, and found one right away. It was eating ripe Pandanus fruits. It was bigger than I expected, and looked sturdy, so it would look great in photos. The second one was crossing the road. It looks cool, like a plastic model. It walks pretty fast.
