Our stay was incredibly satisfying!
Firstly, the hotel's location is superb. It's right opposite Takamatsu Central Park, and the airport shuttle bus has a stop there, so it's just a short walk across the road to the hotel. When heading back to the airport, the shuttle stop is on the other side of the road, with the timetable clearly posted, allowing you to choose your departure time based on your flight. A single ticket costs 900 yen. The hotel is also just 1.1 km from Ritsurin Garden and 1.2 km from Takamatsu Port. My husband and I enjoy walking, so we walked to both places, which only took about 10 minutes (if you prefer public transport, the bus stop is the same as the airport shuttle stop, which is very convenient). Kawaramachi is also only about 500 meters from the hotel, with plenty of restaurants, drugstores, and convenience stores, making it very accessible.
Secondly, the hotel's breakfast was incredibly rich and delicious. It offered Udon noodles, tempura, salmon, mackerel, natto, and more. We were staying for four consecutive nights and were worried about getting tired of the hotel breakfast, so we initially booked without it. However, after trying it on the first day, we were absolutely blown away and immediately added breakfast for the remaining three days. It turned out we didn't get tired of it at all; it was just too good! The Udon noodles, in particular, were wonderfully chewy, and the broth was delicious. I always finished both the noodles and the soup.
Finally, the hotel offers excellent added value. There's a hot spring on the top floor (11th floor). After a day of sightseeing, a soak in the hot spring was perfect for unwinding and relieving fatigue – absolutely wonderful! There's really no need to book a room with a private bath. After your soak, you can enjoy a free popsicle, with several flavors to choose from. Additionally, the hotel offers free lactic acid drinks from 5 PM to 10 PM daily, also on the 11th floor. And from 9:30 PM to 11 PM, there's free ramen in the breakfast restaurant on the first floor.
Although the hotel is a bit old, it is basically well maintained, the service is very good, and the sunset is intoxicating. It is recommended to include the buffet dinner, which has rich food and tastes very good. The room was medium, but the bathroom was a bit small. You can go to the public bath to soak in hot springs.
The hotel is located a bit far from the city center, but the staff were friendly and the breakfast was delicious. The bed was firm and the pillows were comfortable. The water is tap water (you get it from the sink), so if you find it inconvenient, I recommend buying it at a mart or convenience store like me. The public bath is smaller than I thought, but the water was cleanly managed. There is a Halows mart nearby, and you can rent a bike for free for 2 hours. There is a basket in the front of the bike, and if you buy a lot of water like me, you can put it on the back seat, but there is no strap to secure it. I went with a backpack, so I put 3 2L bottles of water in the front basket and brought the rest of the items in my bag.
We stayed for two nights and ordered kaiseki dinner at the hotel on the first night. The kaiseki cuisine provided by the hotel is satisfactory in terms of dishes and portions, and the restaurant environment is also very spacious.
I was surprised by how small the room was for a hot spring ryokan. With two suitcases, there was barely any room to walk. There was no Wi-Fi signal in the room, and the explanation given was that too many guests were using it simultaneously that night. Wi-Fi was only available in the hallway and lobby. Although the staff tried hard to resolve the issue, there was no solution, so we had to use our own mobile data (as an apology, they gave us a small souvenir when we checked out).
Additionally, the 'one night, two meals' package... At over ¥2200, it was ¥1200 more expensive than just the room, but both dinner and breakfast were very mediocre. Compared to a hot spring ryokan I stayed at previously on Shodoshima (which wasn't great either, but at least the food was refined), the meals here were far inferior. There were only three small slices of sashimi, and there were even fish scales on the fish. For ¥1200, two people could have had many better dining options outside.
The hot spring was decent, but nothing particularly impressive.
With a stay at Hotel O. Setouchi in Kanonji, you'll be near the beach, just a 1-minute walk from Setonaikai National Park and 7 minutes by foot from Kotohiki Park. This hotel is 0.5 mi (0.8 km) from Zenigata Sunae and 0.8 mi (1.3 km) from Kotohiki Hachimangu Shrine.
Enjoy recreation amenities such as hot springs or take in the view from a garden.
Enjoy a satisfying meal at Lunch & Dinner Restaurant serving guests of Hotel O. Setouchi. To-go breakfasts are available daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM for a fee.
The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Make yourself at home in one of the 19 guestrooms. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected. Private bathrooms with showers feature complimentary toiletries and hair dryers.
This 400-year-old onsen ryokan is a bit of a mixed bag. The location is definitely superb, and all drinks in the mini-bar are complimentary. Taking the path behind the ryokan to Konpira-san offers a unique and scenic experience, and the complimentary hiking poles at the entrance are a nice touch. However, I have to complain about the room facilities. The curtains were too sheer, making the entire room very bright in the morning. It seemed like they should have been blackout curtains, but they were faulty and couldn't be pulled down. After a long journey, I was hoping to get some good rest, but the bright curtains made it impossible – instead of waking up with the roosters, I woke up with the light! The food portions were very small, and there wasn't much variety. People with a big appetite would definitely not be full, and even those with a smaller appetite might struggle. Personally, I felt the freshness of the food was a bit lacking, and the kitchen's exhaust system was poor, as I could smell cooking fumes in the room.
There is a bath, a jjimjilbang, a smoking room, a cartoon room, a capsule room in the hotel, so it's really good to use it at a cheap price.
It was very good to take the high-speed bus from Matsuyama to Takamatsu and get off next to the park.
However, if you want to go in and out, you have to leave your shoe keys and receive them again, so it may be uncomfortable if you go out often.
Overall, I think it's very reasonable for the price.
The hotel's breakfast is delicious, the location is very good, very close to Qindian. The price is particularly high, if you have the opportunity, you will come back to this hotel. The fly in the ointment is that the hot springs have some old

Amazing
GGuest UserI highly recommend this hotel for those seeking a quiet hot spring experience away from crowds. It is located a bit remotely from the city and surrounded by nature, which I absolutely love!
Driving here is quite accessible. Since I planned to stay for more than one day, they provided a free pickup from the Kotohira JR Station, which is also very convenient. All the staff members are friendly and helpful.
This low-density hotel has around 26 rooms, so it sells out very quickly, especially during peak season. There is a small gift shop, but I found everything I needed there.
The room met my expectations, offering enough space with an outdoor deck and a private hot spring tub. I could hop into the hot spring tub anytime. If in the summer, I would be sitting on the outdoor deck to take in the views of the woods and nature, listening to the birds sing. The lotion provided is of very good quality; I use it every time I finish in the hot spring, as it smooths my skin. I should check if the gift shop sells it.
The minibar is well-stocked with coffee and tea, and a 2-liter bottle of water was provided, along with a filtered water tap in the washroom. The public hot spring is spacious, allowing for plenty of privacy.
One thing I wasn't sure about was that they provided us with a twin bed room. Since I was there with my husband, we expected a double bed room. We didn’t check with them about it because we decided to use the futon bed instead, which was surprisingly comfortable. I ended up sleeping even deeper than on a regular bed.
We were also confused about the futon bed setup requiring an extra charge, guess it was considered an extra bed. However, they arranged it for us without charging extra, which we really appreciated!
The dining experience was fantastic as well. There are different sessions in the restaurant, and they assign different tables for each meal, making it feel like dining in various restaurants. The service was very professional, with the staff explaining each dish to us. Even though one server covered two tables, I felt like they were serving us privately and gave us enough personal time.
The restaurant closes after breakfast and before dinner, which gives you a great opportunity to explore the area during lunchtime. There are also delicious udon restaurants nearby. Just a heads up, though—I didn’t notice any room service available, so if you want snacks in your room, it’s a good idea to prepare your own.
I am looking forward to staying in their other branches!
