This is also a Mitsui Garden Hotel, but unlike the typical 'Japanese' style I usually associate with them, it's much more modern. The public areas are excellent, and the steam room and sauna are definite highlights! They also maintain that modern aesthetic. All the showers are stand-up. The decor and material quality in the rooms and on the guest floors are a bit subpar and overly simplistic. Because the 'base color' is so dark, it tends to show dust bunnies more easily (not necessarily dirty, but it doesn't look good) 😂. The bed, however, is comfortable, and the curtains are great at blocking out light (though it's a shame the windows don't open, I just wanted some fresh air). The TV is high-definition, but its use is limited if you're out all day. The hotel is conveniently located near a bus stop, making it easy to get to attractions like Kiyomizu-dera and Eikan-do. It's actually not far from Shijo and Kyoto Station; on a nice day, you could easily walk, but if it's cold, judge your own stamina. The Gojo subway station entrance, right outside, isn't very friendly for those with large luggage as there's no elevator. Overall, the hotel service deserves a thumbs-up. The front desk staff, both male and female, speak good English and are very friendly and proactive in offering assistance. I noticed a larger number of Western guests during my stay. Just a heads-up: room trash is only collected every two days.
Excellent place to stay. Free public bath spa in the hotel.
Plus: PJs and extra toiletries like makeup remover, cotton pads provided.
Lunch: Good lunch buffet with homemade tofu. Value for money.
Laundry: Coin machine at 400 yen a cycle. Good value.
Venue: Walking distance to huge local supermarket, pharmacy and a nearby neighbourhood mall, BIV. Near the world heritage Nijio Castle. Bus stop just outside. Feels safe in coming back late as the hotel is just next to the main road.
I stayed at Urban Hotel Kyoto Shijo Premium for two nights and had a really enjoyable experience. The room was very clean and well maintained, and the space was more generous than expected, making the stay comfortable and relaxing.
The pricing was very affordable for what was offered, especially considering the excellent facilities available. The public bath was a great way to unwind after a long day of sightseeing, and the gym and washing area were very convenient for travelers.
Service from the staff was excellent throughout my stay—friendly, professional, and always willing to help.
Overall, this was a fantastic stay and great value for money. I only wish my stay could have been longer, and I definitely hope to return again in the future.

Took longer time for the check-in process. I have luggage transfer from Tokyo to the hotel. The claiming luggage processed was not smooth. The staff mislook number on her lists and said it was not our luggage but the tag on the bag exactly shows my name haha. Luckily still got my luggage. Overall the room size is okay, consider spacious. Nearby Kyoto Station 😊.

When I booked the hotel, I specifically requested a high floor. The standard check-in time was 3 PM, and our family of three arrived around 3:45 PM to check in. To my surprise, the front desk attendant, a tall Japanese man wearing glasses, assigned us a room on the lowest possible floor, the second floor. I communicated with him for about ten minutes, reiterating our request for a high floor. The front desk attendant was very arrogant, claiming that our reservation didn't show any request for a high floor and insisting that the hotel was fully booked for the day. He said that if we wanted a high floor, we would have to switch rooms tomorrow. Of course, we understand that high floor requests depend on the hotel's availability on the day, but this hotel has around 400 rooms, and we didn't arrive late at night. The hotel has nine floors in total; we would have been perfectly fine with a room on the 4th or 5th floor, especially since we were staying for three nights with a child. If it were just one night, we might have just put up with it. Despite our efforts, the communication was fruitless. After going up to the room, I called the front desk again to request a room change. Less than five minutes later, the same front desk attendant appeared with a room key for the 9th floor. So, we dragged our luggage and our child up to the 9th floor, only to find it was the very last room, furthest from the elevator. Later, I contacted Trip.com's customer service, who were very helpful and contacted the hotel. The next day, the front desk informed us that they could arrange a room closer to the elevator, but we had already unpacked our luggage, so we decided not to switch rooms again. The front desk then offered us a complimentary room cleaning for the day. All in all, the entire check-in process was incredibly frustrating. It felt like that front desk attendant was intentionally making things difficult for us!
On a positive note, the hotel's location is excellent and convenient for getting around.
The breakfast was similar to other Dormy Inn hotels, and they also offered free ramen at night. However, the dining area was extremely crowded due to group tours.
The variety of hot spring baths was better than other Dormy Inn hotels, but there were no semi-outdoor baths.

The room was spotless! Breakfast was quite good – the noodles were wonderfully chewy with a rich, flavorful broth. The homemade yogurt was incredibly smooth and creamy, and paired with mango, it was absolutely fantastic! They even gave us a small complimentary gift upon check-out! I'll definitely be staying here again!

The hotel completely exceeded my expectations and added many wonderful memories to my trip.
Facilities: Everything is relatively new, and I noticed it's very accessible for people with disabilities, with easy wheelchair access. The front desk also has bar seating, and there's a lovely outdoor garden that even has heat lamps at night.
Cleanliness: It's exceptionally clean, and the housekeeping service is excellent.
Ambiance: Very aesthetically pleasing and made me feel very comfortable.
Service: Absolutely outstanding. Every staff member was polite and courteous, and they responded quickly to any questions I had. If I come to Kyoto again, I will definitely choose this hotel.

A very satisfactory choice. Travel with parents and stayed four nights and royal park. Located near to subway kalasuma station, a good choice to explore Kyoto.
Room is spacious compared to most of hotels in Kyoto, also is clean and quiet.
Impressed by the breakfast where you can choose set menu between Japanese and American styles. Delicate dishes.
It has a lounge where you can enjoy afternoon teas and happy hour.
The public bath is a must go-to place after a long way during the day.

Overall a very positive experience. Room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The hotel assisted in my additional request perfectly and made us have a very warm and enjoyable stay. The breakfast buffet also had a good range of foods to choose from including western menu choices and some Japanese choices as well. I would love to come back!

IiamnotdelicateThe basic room type isn't in the main building; you have to walk up to the main building each time to have breakfast or soak in the onsen (hot spring). And it's not a real onsen; my friend's superior room was the real onsen. We were given a small room at the back of the hotel, but thankfully there weren't too many graves.
When I asked the staff at the entrance to take photos for me, they were very reluctant and had a sour face. At night, on my way back to my room from my friend's, the receptionist on duty in the lobby was also very rude. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the service.
The facilities are excellent, very new, and the hotel is quite small, but that's typical for Japanese hotels. The decor is also very nice; the aesthetics are on point.
There are at least three cemeteries and a bunch of shrines nearby; bring some amulets if you like.

GGuest UserThe hotel is right next to Kyoto Station, just a short walk across a small road, which is incredibly convenient for transport. The decor is new, and the rooms are spacious. The hotel clearly strives to offer good value through its design and attention to detail. However, the public areas are quite small and don't offer much in terms of amenities or space to relax. A significant drawback is that none of the rooms have a view; the windows look directly out onto the walls of adjacent buildings, which feels quite confining and uninspiring.

IIRADAThough the hotel itself is good (I’m staying here for a second time), this time the service was awful.1) went to breakfast, me and my friend ordered 2 dishes, when in 20 mins time there still was nothing, we reminded a waitress of our order… another 20 mins - still nothing. All in all we spent 40 mins at the breakfast restaurant and didn’t get our food. When we explained this to the hostess she just said “sorry” and we left the restaurant hungry. 2) ordered afternoon tea for 3 persons (afternoon tea is served at another restaurant at the hotel). 2 normal sets and 1 for a person who doesn’t like dairy products. That person is me. I explained that I have no allergy, I just don’t like the taste of milk, cheese, et cetera. So I’m fine with bread and with sweets, just not the ones that have cheese on top. In the end instead of the sweets they brought me a fruit platter (that’s all, my friends got a lot of different sweets), when I again explained to the hostess that I’m fine with sweets (sweet bread) and would like to eat the sweets included in the afternoon tea set she just said that they “prepared smth else” for me (she meant the fruit platter). No apology no anything. Mind you, I ordered afternoon tea last year at this same place - everything was alright! As this is a 5 star hotel and everything here is rather expensive (including breakfast and afternoon tea) this is unacceptable level if service.

FFifiLONGAn experience that exceeded my expectations! It seems there are only two garden-view rooms per floor, and the balconies are fully equipped and well-utilized, not just for show. As a Virgo detail-freak, I absolutely loved it! My friend and I were both very satisfied. The room facilities were amazing in every aspect!
The location is excellent, within walking distance of famous attractions like Gion. The super popular dumpling restaurant across the street had no line when we went between 4-5 PM! It was delicious!
However, the hotel's front desk staff and servers didn't seem to have much hotel experience; they were a bit unfamiliar and didn't quite understand service. Our room key didn't even work upon check-in... but they all had very good attitudes.
GGuest UserThe price doubles and goes up. I have stayed in this hotel many times. It always feels good. I came here again after many years and felt that the overall service and the quality of the food in the hotel were much worse. In particular, the service may be understaffed during the peak season, but it is indeed a very good hotel. Be sure not to make any mistakes when booking a hotel, otherwise he will be unkind and only care about money!

MMy WanderlistI had an excellent stay at Fauchon. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality. The hotel staff were also incredibly attentive and polite throughout our stay.
My room was small but comfortable, featuring modern and luxurious amenities that were stylishly pink in colour and comfortable bedding. The attention to detail in the room was impressive, with thoughtful touches including a whole array of complimentary cookies and cake. Breakfast was served as a set menu and selection was limited and basic but expertly prepared and presented.
The hotel's location was also perfect for me because it is situated right in the heart of Kyoto yet away from the crowded spots with excellent access to public transportation. The bus station is right in front of the hotel, the nearest train station is about 10 mins walk and the hotel is approx 15 mins walk to Kawaramachi Street (shopping area). Just behind our hotel is the river and all the restaurants. Our room has the mountain view.
