Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge Paihia
4.2/5125 Reviews
Great stay at this motel which is well positioned on the main road and a short walk from the Wharf and bus terminus. Clean, modern hotel with well furnished room - tv/ sky/tea, coffee facilities etc - housekeeping daily. The reception staff are helpful, knowledgeable and lots of tourists info available. I would certainly stay here again and would recommend .
Paihia Pacific Resort Hotel

The room was clean and decent size but the room and bathroom walls and doors need redecorating and at least a fresh paint job. The sliding window didn’t close properly either and I got some odd reason that it was designed that way to let in air. The way to access the room meant I had to walk along the side of the hotel where the bins are without a proper sensor light or set of them. I didn’t feel comfortable walking back that way. The hotel itself was locked and dark after 7. I did ask them to turn a light in at the front and they did do that. The pool was fine but the jacuzzi was half filled with old water and not working. Overall not a good experience despite cheery staff who I felt had no control over changing the situation.
Carrington Estate

My wife and I are elderly, still work, and like to treat ourselves with a bit of luxury occasionally. We love classy hotels. We are not golfers but Carrington Estate is a lovely place. We had the best room in the Lodge. Great views over the golf course to the ocean beyond. Had a game of pool in the Library. All good so far. The restaurant.... The food was probably excellent, but some of the staff are exceptionally rude, arrogant, and argumentative. This is what happened. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc off the restaurant wine list. Our young waitress came back and apologised that they had sold out of their own Sauvignon. (Carrington have their own vineyard). Their's was the only Sauvignon Blanc on the wine list which struck me as a little unusual for a restaurant of this standard? We don't drink other styles of wine. I asked our waitress if I could retrieve a bottle of our own Sauvy from our room fridge. That was fine she said, and when I returned she had brought two wine glasses to the table. After our food arrived another waitress/duty manager, Emma C stopped at our table and told us that we couldn't drink our own wine. I explained the whole story but she just got angry, stood there with her hands on her hips and ”told us off” loudly. She threatened to confiscate our bottle and then called for back-up from a male colleque, Giovanni. They both stood over us, arguing loudly. I invited Giovanni to sit at our the table so we could discuss this without causing us embarrasment in front of the other guests. Nope. Our food was now going cold so I asked them both to leave us alone and explained that my wife and I both work in tourism/sales and customers/guests should never be treated like this. We hurredly finished our meals, paid and left. But this wasn't good enough for them. They apologised to all the other guests in the restaurant but blamed us for bringing in our own wine. Of course they didn't mention we had permission, and there was no Sauvy available for purchase. No, they were the heros and we were the bad guys. We were humiliated. Couldn't use the restaurant in the morning of course because all the other guests would have recognised us. We didn't due anything wrong. Thanks Emma C and and Giovanni for wreaking our day off. Your behaviour was disgraceful. You don't deserve to be in our wonderful Country. Go home soon please before you destroy other business's and reputations.
Quality Hotel Oceans Tutukaka

If you live in the states or have stayed in a Quality Inn in the US, you are aware that they are far from quality. This hotel however exceeded expectations. I spent the day diving the Poor Knights. The dive shop had recommended I stay here, being convenient is an understatement. I booked through booking.com, I’m not sure if other methods offer a cheaper rate - I have noticed with other accommodations that booking.com adds a charge that may not exist if booking direct. Easy to find, good signage and had open spaces in the parking lot upon arrival. The staff at the front desk both checking in and checking out were wonderful. Very personable and friendly. My room was perfect. Incredibly spacious. Gorgeous view of the marina. The sunset and sunrise were picturesque. I was awed when I opened the door and it confirmed I made the right choice about my stay. The bathroom is also spacious, good shower pressure and hot water. The bed was comfortable and I slept like a rock. Brekky starts downstairs at 7 am. It is not included in the nightly rate but was tastey. I had to be at the dive shop at 8, I arrived downstairs around 720 and still had enough time to eat the oats, pastry and drink a coffee. I would stay again and recommend for your stay.

Was an ok stay for one night slightly higher pricing and the mattresses were a bit past so not a good sleep unfortunately then we were rudely awoken by someone bashing on our door and didn't stop til we opened it only to go sorry wrong room this was at 7am unfortunately we left before open hours of the office or we would have asked for a partial refund on our stay
Copthorne Hotel & Resort Bay of Islands

We stayed in a king superior room and we were pleased with the cleanliness of the room and the view was more then beautiful, I’d definitely recommend staying here to anyone who asks about Copthorne bay of islands. We also ordered the lamb shank and pork belly on the dinner menu and we pleased with that and our room service.. Breakfast was to die for aswell. Would love to stay again.
Admirals View Lodge

I like the location and Bay of Island is beautiful. Admiral's View Lodge is clean, quiet and offers self driving traveller's everything what one needs. Paihia's small community is nice, friendly and one can feel safe. I lost my mobile phone while I went out for dinner and found it in the next morning thanks to the lost and found board in the community.
Aloha Seaview Resort Motel

The images are a little misleading. For the price, you expect it to be basic, but not uncomfortable or unclean, but that's just what it was. We uncovered a number of issues during our stay: the only heating provided was an ancient oil heater, which, in NZ winter, meant an absolutely baltic room. The bathroom was like the 3rd world: broken light, broken extractor fan, mildew-covered toilet seat. Bedding was damp due to high moisture levels, and this meant that when we left the heater on so that the unit would be warmer upon our return later in the day, the whole room smelled of damp. Also, put in that it was an adult and two teenagers staying, and they decided to put the two teens in a single bed. A frayed and dangerous cable provided on another heater which we requested. Sofa was broken, however this issue was fixed by the attendant, who was incredibly kind and helpful. It seems the establishment may be undergoing some work in the not too distant future, but until then, I'd give it a miss. Plenty of better options elsewhere in Paihia or even in Russell across the bay.
Distinction Whangarei Hotel & Conference Centre

Hotel has invested & upgraded however not in the public areas where carpet looks distinctly tired. The rooms has new carpet, a huge round mirror and bespoke fittings however the bathroom still has the old tiles and 1980s 45° plastic shower which feels very claustrophobic. No liquid soap & soap cakes are supplied. Complimentary tea & instant coffee but a very bare fridge except for UHT milk pods. TV has usual freeview stations including ABC (Aussie), French TV & DW (German) but no Sky channels. Unfortunately the entry door has 1 inch gap underdoor which allows a lot of noise to intrude. Also no smoke seals or auto closer (non complying under current NZ Building Code but probably OK as built before NZ Building Act 1992 came into force). Party walls also allow a lot of inter-room noise (we left the bathroom fan on to provide some background masking). Aircon/heating is provided by a domestic looking & yellowing hi-bay heat pump which didnt try. Breakfast was standard fare with bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, cereals, raw juice etc. Espresso is available on request but extra cost eg. $6 for Latte. Plenty of carparking and convenient walking distance to Town Basin. Concluding, hotel is slowly upgrading but still a lot to do - 3.5 stars

Please look after Pau the same way she looks after us! She is amazing. She makes mine and the boys stay very good. Pretty much the only reason we come back is cos of her. The food is yum, portions could be bit more for us though as some of the boys don't come breakfast yet we are still charged for it, but if we ask for extra food they don't really give it cos it aint in the ”budget” of $110 that our company pays for food everyday.
