On the banks of the Yangzhou moat sits the Shigong Temple, also called the Shi Kefa Memorial Hall. It was reconstructed in the ninth year of the Tongzhi period after having been initially constructed during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. With the temple on the west and the tomb on the east, the temple gate faces south. It honors Shi Kefa, a national hero who fought in the late Ming Dynasty against the Qing Dynasty. You can learn about the actions of Shi Kefa and other national heroes in the memorial hall, where you can also view Shi Kefa's handwriting and priceless cultural artifacts. Additionally, the picturesque location is home to the Guangling Qin School Historical Materials Exhibition Hall. Guqin, paintings and other cultural relics are displayed in the hall, and sometimes you can also see Guqin performances here.

[Scenery] This is my favorite place in Yangzhou. I come here every year and bring my friends here to visit. It has beautiful scenery in all seasons, with the fragrance of flowers and the sound of musical instruments. The Guangling Music Society is also here. [Fun] Shi Kefa’s cenotaph and memorial shop allow you to learn about his life. [Value for money] No tickets required, free attractions |
In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, a salt trader lived in Wang's Courtyard. Wang Zhuming, the home's owner, was formerly a trader from Huizhou. It is among Yangzhou's comparatively intact salt merchant homes from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. Here, you can admire the architectural design that blends the Jiangnan gardens with the three Hui-style carvings. Another characteristic is the incorporation of furnishings in the Western style. The home boasts a rich cultural legacy, delicate and beautiful grounds, magnificent carvings and decorating, and a well-organized layout. The goal of the newly constructed paper-cutting museum at Wang's yard's back yard is to preserve, exhibit, inherit, rescue, and research Chinese paper-cutting art.

It's pretty good. I came here 20 years ago. There was a tour guide at that time. It feels shabby now. The hidden small garden still gives you a sense of the prosperity of the salt merchants. |
The old home of Zhu Ziqing was constructed during the Qing Dynasty. It is a typical Yangzhou "Sanheyuan" residential building with a strong academic vibe. After returning to Yangzhou, Zhu Ziqing spent decades living in his former home with his parents, kids, and himself. The location is small and there aren't many tourists. It has a distinctive and refined look in contrast to Yangzhou's big houses of powerful officials and affluent merchants. Some of the Zhu family's everyday furnishings and stationery are still present in the renovated previous home. There is a bust of Mr. Zhu in the main hall, and behind the statue is a painting of "Moonlight over the Lotus Pond".

It's worth a visit for those who like literature and cultural landscapes. The courtyard is not big and it's not the home of a wealthy family, but walking into the alley of the courtyard still gives you a feeling of traveling through history. |
One of the best examples of a garden from the late Qing Dynasty is He Garden. The garden is connected by corridors and deftly blends Western and Chinese architectural styles, creating a sense of layering throughout the entire design. The back garden, the residential courtyard, and the stone house in the southeast make up the majority of the landscape. The garden's owner uses the water pavilion that is built into the center of the pool in the west of the garden to see dramatic plays.

Located on Kaifa East Road, Guangling District, Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province (approximately 150 meters northwest of Sanwan Wetland Park), the China Grand Canal Museum, also known as "Yunbo" (whose full name is "Yangzhou China Grand Canal Museum") occupies an area of 200 acres and has a total construction area of 80,000 square meters. The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism is its affiliate. It is a contemporary, all-inclusive museum in the area that combines exhibitions of scientific research, leisure activities, and the preservation of cultural artifacts. It is a significant undertaking in the Grand Canal National Cultural Park's development. The display and operation are under the control of the Nanjing Museum.

The China Grand Canal Museum in Yangzhou is definitely worth a visit. The high-tech content in each venue is so numerous and shocking. The boat experience allows you to directly feel the museum's heritage, Yangzhou's customs and people, and the beauty of the Grand Canal. But remember to make an appointment one week in advance, otherwise you will not be able to enter for a temporary visit. There must be too many people who like the China Grand Canal Museum. If I have the chance, I will definitely visit it again and bring my family and friends with me to further experience the beauty and unique charm of the Yangzhou China Grand Canal Museum. |
Siwangting can be found in Yangzhou City's Guangling District at 9 Pangxie Lane, Siwangting Road. In the heart of Yangzhou City, it is one of the landmarks. The walls of this pavilion are composed of exposed blue bricks and were initially constructed during the 38th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty. Once a component of Jiangdu County School, it eventually served as a sentry tower for the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Army, where it saw the devastating fight between the Qing and Taiping armies.

Coming on April 24, 2024. Siwang Pavilion is a landmark in Yangzhou. Some say it was first built in the Song Dynasty, while others say it was first built in the Ming Dynasty. In any case, the building in front of us is undoubtedly an ancient artifact. The shape of the Siwang Pavilion is very beautiful, and with the contrast of the surrounding environment, you can take some beautiful photos. I heard that this place has become a popular check-in spot for internet celebrities, and sure enough, there were quite a few girls taking photos here at night. Luckily we went there again during the day, probably because it was a weekday morning and there happened to be no other tourists. |
Songda City and Baoyou City are separated by Songjiacheng Archaeological Site Park. Encircled by water on all sides, it is a narrow rectangle with the south somewhat to the east and the north slightly to the west. The East Gate and the West Gate are the tallest of the three city gates, while a floating bridge that connects to Pingshantang Road is constructed outside the North Gate. It is currently accessible via the plank road at the west entrance and the floating bridge at the north gate.

The Songjiacheng Lake Tour was launched last week. My mother got up early today to experience it. She said it was a long-cherished wish of hers! A big boat took her on a 40-minute tour around Baozhuang Lake. The old lady was very happy and said that many people didn’t know about this route. She went there early and the boat departed on time at 9:30. The elderly and children can enjoy half-price tickets! 👍 |
The Han Tomb Garden, also called the Han Guangling King Tomb Museum, was dug up in Shenju Mountain in Tianshan Town, Gaoyou City. Liu Xu, the Western Han Dynasty's King of Guangling, and his queen are buried there. The museum's most impressive feature is the genuine "Huangchangtichou" wooden coffin, a superior burial method reserved for ancient emperors. Furthermore, the Han Guangling King Tomb's museum garden is filled with a variety of flora. You can enjoy peach flowers, crabapple blossoms, etc. every spring, which liven up the once depressing tomb exhibition site.

The "Huangchangtichou" structure constructed with golden nanmu wood is the highest level burial system in the Han Dynasty. The 856 pieces of nanmu wood are tightly connected with mortise and tenon joints, which fit perfectly. It demonstrates the superb carpentry skills and architectural wisdom of ancient craftsmen, and has extremely high artistic and scientific value. |
The river that runs through Slender West Lake is long and thin. You can stroll by the river and take in the natural splendor here, or you can enter pavilions and towers to admire the calligraphy, poetry, and paintings of literati from earlier dynasties. You can also take a boat and experience Emperor Qianlong's casual attitude while he was cruising the lake. The Slender West Lake is home to some well-known gardens. Numerous poets and literati have painted and written here for thousands of years, leaving behind a wealth of stories and works of art. In accordance with local requirements, they have also constructed numerous picturesque buildings.

I still like it very much. The willows swaying in the wind, the orioles singing and the swallows dancing, it has the charm of Jiangnan. The scenic area is big enough, and it is still very attractive for college students to buy it at half price. Although there are a lot of people, overall the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I recommend it. Tips: Your legs are tired, remember to wear comfortable shoes and take a rest🥹 |
To the north of Slender West Lake lie the Tang City Ruins. The interior palaces, city walls, and flat bridges are all based on Tang Dynasty structures. The rich vegetation and sparse visitor population make the picturesque region ideal for a leisurely stroll. Ascending the city wall also offers a view of the surrounding landscape, including patches of flora and the contour of Slender West Lake. The picturesque area's cherry blossoms, peach blossoms, and winter jasmine flowers are in full bloom every spring, and you are welcome to visit and take pictures.

The location is near the Slender West Lake, next to Guanyin Mountain and Daming Temple. This scenic spot is quite ordinary and has no special features. I personally think it doesn't matter whether you go there or not. If you want to visit, you can come out in less than half an hour. |
Guanyin Mountain is a provincial nature reserve situated in Fogang, Qingyuan, Guangzhou. With over a thousand plant species, the wildlife and flora are abundant. Additionally, there are national level 1 and level 2 critical protected creatures as well as rare and endangered wild animals. The main draw is the Longtan Waterfall, which is located at the base of Guanyin Mountain. It is now a popular destination for summer vacationers, leisure travelers, and forest bathers. It is also a nice site for mountaineering adventurers to pause.

Guanyin Temple: The main body of the temple is "Bodhisattva", and four famous Buddhist mountain Bodhisattvas are also enshrined. The Yuantong Hall enshrines a giant seated statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Tang City Ruins: Located on the east side of Guanyin Mountain, it is connected to Guanyin Mountain by a gate. It is one of the best-preserved ancient city ruins in China. You can overlook the beautiful scenery of Yangzhou City by climbing up the city wall. Purple Bamboo Forest: Quiet and peaceful, with dense bamboo forest, it is like a fairyland where you can feel tranquility and peace. Maze Tower: With a long history and unique architectural style, it makes people feel like traveling back to ancient times. The tour route enters from the mountain gate, first visits the Mountain Gate Hall, then goes to the Heavenly King Hall, and then visits the Manjusri Hall, Samantabhadra Hall, and Ksitigarbha Hall in turn, and finally exits from the Guanyin Temple to the Tang City Ruins. |
In the northwest corner of Yangzhou's Slender West Lake, on the middle peak of Shugang, stands Daming Temple. It was initially constructed during the Daming era of Emperor Xiaowu of the Southern Song Dynasty (457-464 AD), which is why it was given that name. The current temple was constructed during the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi period. Daming Temple gained notoriety when the renowned monk Jianzhen preached and dispensed precepts there prior to his voyage to Japan during the Tang Dynasty. The main temple building is located in the center of the entire Daming Temple, followed by the Qiling Pagoda in the east and the West Garden, a garden-style back garden, in the west. The entire Daming Temple is open to visitors in the central-eastern-western sequence. You will reach the main entrance of Daming Temple after ascending the mountain via the easy steps; the mountain is only 28 meters above sea level. Both sides of the mountain route are lined with sellers selling incense. Avoid purchasing them. It is forbidden to bring outside incense into the sanctuary. Burn incense in the temple, please. Three pathways run north-south through the main temple buildings in the center of the picturesque area. The Main Hall, the mountain entrance that doubles as the Heavenly King Hall, and the archway are located on the middle axis, running south to north. You can primarily view Ouyang Xiu on the west road. Pingshan Hall, which was constructed when Ouyang Xiu was Yangzhou's prefect, is located to the south. To honor Ouyang Xiu, Su Dongpo later constructed Gulin Hall beside Pingshan Hall while serving as Yangzhou's prefect. Ouyang Temple is located to the north. The Sutra Library is located east of the Jianzhen Memorial Hall, the abbot's quarters Pingyuan Tower is located south of the east road, and the Jianzhen Memorial Hall is located north. One of the most significant structures at Daming Temple is the Jianzhen Memorial Hall. Jianzhen introduced Chinese Buddhism and culture to Japan during his six trips there. He died within the Toshodaiji Temple in Nara, Japan, where he oversaw its construction. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Jianzhen Memorial Hall was constructed to resemble the Toshodaiji Temple. A white marble stele bearing the inscription "Memorial Memorial to Great Monk Tang Jianzhen" is located in the pavilion in front of the memorial hall. In the center of the courtyard sits a stone lantern that was donated by the elder of Japan's Toshodaiji Temple. In Toshodaiji Temple, it forms a pair with another stone lamp. Modeled after the monument of Jianzhen in Toshodai-ji Temple, the seated nanmu statue in the memorial hall depicts Jianzhen's appearance at the time of his death. You can learn about Jianzhen's actions through images and texts at the Jianzhen Historical Materials Museum, which is located in the old Qingkong Pavilion across from the Memorial Hall. Emperor Yang Jian of the Sui Dynasty first constructed the Qiling Pagoda in the eastern part of the picturesque area as a birthday celebration. The current pagoda was rebuilt and repaired using the Sui Dynasty's model. Relics and a Nanmu pagoda are housed in the nine-story structure. You may see Yangzhou City and the Slender West Lake in the distance, as well as the entire Daming Temple, if you ascend to the top of the tower. The bell tower and drum tower are located on the east and west sides of the Qiling Pagoda, respectively. The Jade Buddha from Myanmar may be seen in the Reclining Buddha Hall, which is located north of the pagoda. Because of its association with Emperor Qianlong's journey south of the Yangtze River, the West Garden, the back garden in the western portion of the picturesque area, is also known as the Imperial Garden. The garden is surrounded by towers, pavilions, and rockery, just like all the gardens south of the Yangtze River. The lake in the center serves as an animal release pond. There are three imperial stele of Emperor Qianlong standing on an imperial stele pavilion located east of the lake. The lake is home to the world's fifth-best spring. Zhang Youxin, the Tang Dynasty author of "Notes on Brewing Tea Water," came up with the term "fifth." The "Fifth Spring" stone stele and an old well can be seen if you walk slightly south of the Qianlong Imperial Stele. An exciting "Bell Ringing Ceremony to Welcome the New Year" is held annually on December 31st at Daming Temple. Throughout the New Year, the event occurs. As the 108 bells ring at midnight, the residents of the temple offer prayers for harmony and joy in the coming year. The birthdays and anniversaries of many Bodhisattvas are also celebrated with rites at Daming Temple.

The portion of the Yangzhou river that runs from Zhuyu Bay Scenic Area to Gaomin Temple is known as the Ancient Grand Canal. The Nanmen Wharf and the Bianyimen Square Wharf in Yangzhou city are the primary tourist destinations. Famous sites like the Dongguan Street Historic District, which is accessible by foot or boat, are located along this route. Like the Jiangnan landscapes portrayed in old poetry, there is a pleasant green belt along the canal with green willows swinging by the water. At night, the canal's lights are on, and the scenery is stunning.

Water reflects thousands of years: the flowing epic of the ancient canal. The Yangzhou section of the ancient canal is a poem of civilization engraved on the earth. This waterway, which has been winding for thousands of years, is not only a transportation artery, but also a container of civilization, witnessing the integration of economy and culture between northern and southern China. The Guazhou Ferry at the southern end once echoed with the regretful sighs of countless people leaving; the ancient Dongguan Ferry on the north bank still exudes the atmosphere of city life. The poetic beauty of the moonlit night under the Twenty-Four Bridges and the hustle and bustle of the prosperous canal transportation are intertwined here, forming a unique Jiangnan water charm. Today, the ancient canal has shed its heavy responsibility of transporting goods and its blue waves stretch out in the morning light. The ecological restoration project of Sanwan Canal has brought new life to the former industrial relics, with the waterfront boardwalk and ancient buildings complementing each other. Intangible cultural heritage performances are performed in turn in the waterside corridor, allowing young tourists to touch the texture of history. Every ancient bridge is a solidified epic, and every embankment is a flowing annual ring, narrating the never-ending dialogue between civilizations. The ancient Grand Canal is not only a world cultural heritage, but also a spiritual totem of contemporary life. It uses water as ink to continue writing the story of Jiangnan in the new era. |
Previously, Pi Shi Street was known as "Fur Street" in Yangzhou. Since ancient times, fur has been associated with style and sophistication. Naturally, Yangzhou's fur trade led to the creation of a "Fur Street" in this historically wealthy city. Pi Shi Street is the name of this street. The road stone utilized in Pi Shi Street is granite, one of the emblems that emphasize the features of the historic old streets of the ancient city. The majority of the fur traders on Pi Shi Street are foreigners. Additionally, they brought distinctive snacks from their birthplace to Yangzhou, including stores selling bellows, sesame cakes, steamers, and mutton. Over time, the lanes that house these tiny stores have acquired new names, such as Bellows Lane, Steamer Lane, Big Sesame Lane, Small Sesame Lane, and Mutton Lane. These alleyways are still present beside Pi Shi Street nowadays. They are devoted observers of the earlier commotion despite their relative quietness.

Half is urban, half is romantic. Roses are blooming everywhere in May, and pomegranate flowers are bright to the eyes! Stroll around Pi Shi Street and relax. It is said that it is more lively here at night. Personally, I think that Pi Shi Street is more interesting and richer in content than before. It is recommended to take the bus. |
Wenchang Pavilion was part of the complex of Yangzhou Prefecture School. Wenchang Pavilion is all that is left of Yangzhou Prefecture School. The striking Wenchang Pavilion is situated in the middle of the crossroads. It is a famous structure in Yangzhou's historic district. Yangzhou's economic hub is the area surrounding Wenchang Pavilion, which is bustling with people during the day and illuminated at night. Siwangting is located north of Wenchang Pavilion, and Siwangting Road, which runs west of Siwangting, is one of Yangzhou's most well-known culinary streets.

Best time to visit: The climate is suitable in spring and autumn. In spring, there are many flowers, and in autumn, there are golden leaves falling, which complement the architecture. You can appreciate the architectural details during the day and the attic decorated with colorful lights at night. • Take photos: Stand on the sidewalk opposite the loft to capture the entire view; you can also use surrounding street scenes, trees and other elements to add layering and interest to the photo. • Explore the surrounding area: There are many shops and restaurants in the surrounding area, where you can taste authentic Yangzhou snacks such as Yangzhou fried rice, three-diced buns, and thousand-layer oil cakes. You can also visit the antique market and look for interesting small items. |
