"Stayed here for a quick business trip and it was a great choice. The location is the biggest plus—it's directly connected to JR Hamamatsu Station, so getting to my meetings was super easy, even with luggage. The room was quiet, clean, and had a decent desk to get some work done. Being in the tallest building in the city, the view from my room was a great bonus to unwind after a long day. The Wi-Fi was fast and stable, which is a must for me. The staff were efficient and professional, making check-in and check-out very smooth. If you’re coming to Hamamatsu for work, this is probably the most convenient place to stay."

"I booked quite late, so only the lower-floor sea view rooms were available. Even though the hotel facilities are a bit old, it offers great value for money. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves at night was lovely. The hotel provides WeChat-based Chinese customer service, which made communication very convenient. The room was a Japanese-style room with a tatami mat. It was a bit firm, but it was a unique experience and quite nice. On the ninth floor, there's a public bath and private onsens. You can book a time for the private onsen with the front desk in advance. Soaking in the bath while enjoying the sea view was fantastic. The front desk also provided yukata (bathrobes) for guests to choose from. The only downside was that hairdryers were only available in the public bath and private onsens, which was a bit inconvenient. For transfers to and from the high-speed train station, you can book a pick-up/drop-off time on [platform name, e.g., WeChat, Xiaohongshu]. Otherwise, trying to drag luggage up the mountain road is impossible. There aren't many restaurants near the hotel by the sea; you have to climb a 15-minute mountain road closer to the high-speed train station to find eateries. Convenience stores are also near the train station, requiring a 20-minute uphill walk. I recommend buying anything you need beforehand and then taking the shuttle back to the hotel."

"The hotel itself is good, but it's quite a distance from Mount Fuji. It has hot springs and laundry facilities, which is convenient. Breakfast was also good. However, on the third night, the alarm went off around 2 AM. Everyone in the hotel rushed out, and the elevators and phones were shut down. We were so scared that we quickly found the emergency stairs and ran down. The hotel said it was an equipment issue and told us to go back to our rooms. We climbed 10 floors back, and then a little later, the alarm went off again. Soon after, they announced that everything was fine. We barely slept that entire night because of the commotion."

"Nestled on a hillside overlooking the bay, the hotel is absolutely stunning on a clear day. The garden has direct access to the beach, though climbing the stairs back up can be quite a workout. The room facilities were comprehensive and newer than I had anticipated. The hotel was quite busy with guests from various countries, indicating it's indeed very foreigner-friendly. However, this also led to some issues. For instance, the hotel's onsen (hot spring) isn't very large, so it felt quite crowded with so many international visitors. What was even more dismaying was the blatant disregard for onsen etiquette. I personally witnessed several instances, including but not limited to: two Chinese female tourists in swimsuits in the outdoor bath, one of whom was sitting at the edge, soaking her legs while drinking a beverage, with a full face of makeup – I half expected her to pull out her phone for a 'perfect shot.' Additionally, two women, possibly from Eastern Europe or Russia, covered in tattoos, wore their slippers directly into the changing area and then just left them thrown under the lockers. Such sights were off-putting, so we decided not to use the onsen on our second night. The hotel actually provides guests with a leaflet on Japanese onsen etiquette upon check-in, but clearly, some people just don't bother to read it. I suggest the hotel increases staff patrols in the onsen area to promptly identify and address these uncivilized behaviors. On another note, when we first entered our room, it felt stuffy, so we opened the window, which unfortunately let in some mosquitoes. After contacting the front desk, they promptly sent up an electric mosquito repellent, which was a thoughtful gesture. We stayed for two nights, both on a half-board basis (dinner and breakfast). The dinner was a Western-style set menu, with at least 7 courses. Both the presentation and content were Michelin-level and absolutely delicious. Finally, the hotel's shuttle bus service is quite frequent. In the mornings, there are four buses that stop at Shimoda Park, which is perfect for seeing the hydrangeas."

"This is an established onsen hotel in Shuzenji, mostly frequented by Japanese locals for their getaways. I booked a Japanese-style room that included breakfast and dinner. Throughout the entire hotel, shoes are not permitted; they are stored in shoe lockers behind the front desk. Both breakfast and dinner are buffet-style, offering a good selection of both Japanese and Western dishes. The hotel also boasts seven complimentary private hot springs, which are fantastic, although you might have to queue during peak hours (each session is 30 minutes). What's more, they offer free ramen in the evenings, which is a wonderful touch. A special shout-out also goes to the free mahjong tables – a huge draw for Chinese guests! The hotel's location is excellent, right next to the hot spring street, and it's only about a 5-minute walk to Shuzenji Temple. The only minor downside is the lack of a free shuttle service to Shuzenji Station. However, the front desk can help you arrange a taxi, which costs around 1500 JPY."

"This hotel is perfectly located right by the sea, offering a fantastic environment. Transportation is also quite convenient, with a shuttle bus running between the hotel and Kawazu Station. The breakfast was just okay. If you plan to have dinner, it's definitely best to book in advance. We didn't make a reservation this time and ended up being turned away by both restaurants because they were full. There was nowhere else to eat nearby, so we had to resort to instant noodles."

"Well-equipped rooms and great location, but ruined by smoke odor and poor parking management. Pros: • Well-Equipped Rooms: The rooms themselves are nice and come with a full range of amenities. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided. • Prime Location & Breakfast: Excellent location right by the station and malls. The breakfast was also delicious. Cons: • Heavy Smoke Odor: Despite the good room facilities, the smell of cigarettes was overwhelming in both rooms. We couldn't change rooms, resulting in a headache and a sore throat the next morning. • Parking Issues: Very poor management. Even after paying the initial 600¥, there was no spot reserved when we returned, forcing us to pay an extra 1,200¥ elsewhere."

"This was my first time staying here. I really enjoyed the welcome drink in the lobby, which made waiting for check-in very relaxing. The entire room was impeccably clean, which I appreciated. The only minor thing was that the showers in the public bath weren't consistent in design or type. It wasn't really a problem, but since everything else was so clean, it just stood out a little. Overall, I'd definitely want to stay here again. Thank you!"

"Absolutely gem of a ryokan and our favourite place to stay. Admittedly we did have the western beds (very cozy). Having a room along the river and across the suspension bridge was magical and exciting. Everything was perfect. The staff were so welcoming and made us feel incredibly at home from the moment we arrived. The highlight for us was our private riverside onsen right in our room—soaking there with the sound of the river rushing by was pure magic. The beautiful ”Kikuya Pond” (KKJ pond) and the overall historic, serene layout of the property added so much charm to the experience. The Kaiseki dining was utterly delicious, beautifully presented, and a true culinary highlight of our trip. As Westerners, we felt incredibly valued, respected, and well-taken care of by the staff. That being said, hospitality goes both ways! We highly recommend that fellow Western travellers take the time to learn basic Japanese phrases and standard ryokan etiquette before visiting. It’s a two-way street, and showing that respect makes an already world-class experience even more meaningful. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We cannot recommend Yukairo Kikuya highly enough and cannot wait to return.
