Through a series of simple exercises, participants will be introduced to Viewpoints - a training method that actors use to develop awareness of their mind and body in relation to the environment. Come with an open mind and join us in exploring the different elements of Viewpoints such as Shapes and Movement in this experiential workshop! No acting/theatre experience required. Please note: - Participants need to register with a valid mylibrary ID account or else your registration will be invalid. - Due to limited slots, please come on time as your slot will be given to walk-in participants if any. This programme is suitable for: - Participants age 17 years and above - Who are interested in theatre and considered physically fit to do a movement class. Attire Notes: 1) Bare feet, no shoes required. 2) Fitting & stretchable attire (T-shirt & pants) which allow you to move freely, even level changes. 3) NO jeans, skirt and dress, but socks are allowed if you really need. 4) Bring along your own bottled water. 5) A towel for yourself, as you may sweat during training. About The Performer's Body Series Central Arts Library’s “The Performer’s Body” is designed for participants with little to no performing experience, providing them with essential skills, and understanding of their body’s potential. This workshop series focuses on fundamental techniques, gradually building participants performing vocabulary. By exploring the basics of physicality and expression, “The Performer’s Body” equips participants with a foundation to begin their artistic journey. About Mia Chee Mia is an actor, theatre producer and educator, also co-founder and Company Director of Nine Years Theatre, with over 20 years of professional experience. She found her love in performing at the age of 9 when she joined Rediffusion's children radio drama group. Since then, she has been performing through her teenage years and eventually graduated with a BA in Theatre Studies and Chinese Language from the National University of Singapore. To further her research in the actor’s body, training and performance, Mia studied Viewpoints with SITI Company (New York) and Suzuki Method of Actor Training with SITI and Suzuki Company of Toga (Japan), and has been practising these trainings for more than 10 years. She also shared and led NYT’s classes, jams, and classes in schools on the above methods. She’s currently an Alumni Network Ambassador of the SITI Company. As a continuation from her background in radio work since young, she worked as a part-time DJ at Y.E.S. FM93.3 during the years 1997 – 2014. Since 2015, she has been teaching NYT’s Diction of Standard Mandarin class. She was a founding and core member of the NYT Ensemble through its journey (2014 - 2021), and led the ensemble in vocal and speech training. Since university days, she worked as a performer with various theatre companies such as Toy Factory Productions Ltd, Dramabox, The Theatre Practice, The Necessary Stage and TheatreWorks. Today, she has been the producer of all NYT shows. Recent performing credits include Immortal Variables, See You, Anniversary, Windward Side of the Mountain, Between You And Me, Electrify My World, Three Sisters, Oedipus, Dear Elena, First Fleet, FAUST/US, Lear Is Dead, Pissed Julie, Cut Kafka!, Art Studio, Red Sky, Red Demon, The Lower Depths, Tartuffe, An Enemy of the People, The Bride Always Knocks Twice and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. About Nelson Chia Nelson is a director, performer, playwright, acting teacher and theatre lecturer. He is a four-time Best Director winner and two-time Best Actor winner at the Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards. In 2012, Nelson became the first Singapore artist to be commissioned for three consecutive years by The Esplanade to present work at the Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts. In 2017, he trans-created Cultural Medallion writer Yeng Pway Ngon’s seminal novel Art Studio for the stage, the play was commissioned by Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) as the opening programme for the festival that year. In 2021, he collaborated with the renowned SITI Company from New York to present a hybrid version of Chekhov’s Three Sisters at SIFA 2020/21. Other commissioning and artistic partners he had worked with included Macau Arts Festival, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, Singapore Writers’ Festival, The Substation, The Arts House, World Shakespeare Congress, T.H.E. Dance Company and Contemporary Legend Theatre (Taiwan), to name a few. Nelson’s directorial works are marked by detailed and dynamic ensemble work. His original scripts and transcreations are known to be culturally layered and possessing sensibilities that speaks to audiences from all backgrounds. In 2012, Nelson, with his wife Mia Chee, co-founded Nine Years Theatre (NYT) – currently the only company under NAC’s major funding scheme that distinctly positions itself as a Singapore Mandarin theatre company. NYT believes that the multicultural Singapore Chinese identity is unique and aspires to recognise and celebrate that. About Nine Years Theatre An award-winning Singapore Mandarin theatre company, Nine Years Theatre (NYT) is dedicated to the creation of high-quality performances. NYT sees Chinese culture as the foundation of its work but not the centre of its practice. We believe in the uniqueness of local Chinese culture and aspires to recognise and celebrate the multicultural identity of the Singaporean Chinese through theatre. Japanese singer-songwriter Fuu Fujii has announced that the "Fujii Best of Live Concert 2020-2024 Asia Tour" will be held in major cities across Asia by the end of this year. Official tour photos and a special website have also been released. Fujii just held his first Asia tour last year. This tour will expand to arenas and is called "Fujii Best of Live Concert 2020-2024 Asia Tour", which will start in Singapore on October 26 and travel to eight cities in the region. After the performance in Singapore, the singer will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Taipei Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila, Seoul and more. The Singapore stop of the 2020-2024 Fuu Fujii Asia Tour will be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
