"Mixed Experience – Some Great Aspects but Room for Improvement
We recently stayed at the Novotel Cambridge North and had a mixed experience. The hotel has a lot going for it—modern facilities, a good location just north of the city centre, and excellent breakfast options that really stood out. The pool area is great for kids, and the sauna and jacuzzi were enjoyable touches that added value to our stay.
However, there were a few letdowns. While staff were generally friendly, some follow-through was lacking—for example, we requested dressing gowns and slippers, and refills of the shower gel and shampoo which were promised but never delivered.
The hotel uses a strange single-use key card system for the leisure facilities, which caused repeated issues. Cards were frequently deactivated, leaving guests locked out of the pool and gym areas. We often had to rely on others to let us in, or vice versa, which became frustrating.
Also worth noting: there is no on-site parking available, which should be clearly stated in advance for future guests.
Overall, the hotel offers decent value for money, especially for families, and the convenient public transport links (bus and train) make it easy to get into the city. With some improvements in service and clearer communication, this could be an excellent place to stay"

"The staff were enthusiastic and had bright smiles. They arrived early in the morning when I changed hotels. The staff told me that my room had been cleaned and they immediately handed it over to me.
The equipment is complete and the tableware is available. I can cook for one night.
The location is good, it takes 6 minutes to get to John Lewis.
I am very happy to have Smart TV, so I can watch YouTube which I usually follow.
The disadvantage is that it is close to the street and it is a bit noisy downstairs."

"The family hotel is in a good location, the facilities are average, the bed is very comfortable, the breakfast is a little less, overall it is OK, but because the deduction problem is communicated by the waitress, but she is not so nice, saying that she has to wait for the manager to come back and take the baggage in the afternoon. The manager is very good, the problem is solved quickly, it is really a completely different service experience for different people."

"Can’t beat the location — super convenient and close to everything I needed. That said, it felt a bit overpriced for what you actually get. The place was decent, but nothing really stood out to justify the higher cost. If location is your top priority, it’s a solid pick, but otherwise, there might be better value elsewhere."

Breakfast was amazing with so many choices and quality items available.
Highly recommended and looking forward to returning.

Ppeter nutbrownThis accommodation was excellent. for us.It was situated in a tiny village with only one local pub, which was ideal for us. Cambridge is only 10miles away.
The host was very friendly and welcoming. The Lodge was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. A nice touch was a plate of fairy cakes and a jar of cookies to welcome you. There was also a jug of milk in the fridge. The bed was sublime. Extremely soft and comfortable. I normally only manage 3-4 hours sleep daily, but on our two night stay i slept right through both nights. Breakfast was a full English delivered to our door, and it was delicious. I can't recommend this place and it's host highly enough. If I'm visiting the area again Thorn House will definitely be my first choice.
GGuest UserI had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly, professional, and always ready to help with anything I needed. The room was clean, spacious, and well-maintained, with all the amenities I could ask for. The location was perfect—close to local attractions yet quiet and peaceful for a good night’s rest. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options. Overall, a very pleasant experience. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

__WeChat491304****My stay this time was absolutely delightful! The hygiene was impeccable; the room was spotless with no odd smells, and the bedding and bathroom fixtures were gleaming as if brand new. The disinfection work was thoroughly done, which made me feel incredibly at ease. The service was a definite highlight—the front desk staff were warm and professional, processing my check-in quickly. The concierge proactively helped with my luggage, and any requests were addressed very promptly, making me feel truly cared for. The facilities were also excellent: the air conditioning worked great, the internet was fast, and the bathroom had a convenient wet/dry separation. Thoughtful details like the smart toilet and mini-fridge really enhanced the quality of my stay. Overall, it was an incredibly value-for-money experience, and I highly recommend it!
GGuest UserThe location, rooms, and staff service were all excellent. The only minor issue was that when I first entered the room, it felt like a sauna, incredibly hot – I seriously thought I wouldn't be able to sleep! After spending a bit of time in the lobby, it was much cooler when I returned. I'm not sure if someone had opened the door or if the AC had been turned on in the room. Overall, the facilities are great, making it particularly suitable for solo travelers, and security feels very robust. The other guests in the female dorm were also very respectful and considerate. I highly recommend staying here.
SSaierbahetangwanThe hotel isn't in the city center; it's about a 30-minute walk or bus ride to downtown or the university area. However, it's very quiet here. If you're not driving, you have to walk through a large private garden (blocked by a wire fence) every time you leave, which takes about 7-8 minutes to exit. On the upside, it's cheaper than hotels in the city center. If budget isn't an issue, you could certainly opt for a 'fancier' hotel in the university area, which would naturally offer a better experience. Besides the university, the Fitzwilliam Museum is definitely worth a visit in Cambridge.
NNBWDespite the slightly tired looking exterior, this is an excellent choice if you want a hotel in Cambridge, with parking, and walking distance to the city centre. Our room was on the ground floor but facing the rear and was very peaceful. The room is quite small but everything worked, it was exceptionally clean and comfortable, and the shower water pressure was fantastic.
Breakfast, included in our package, was very very good. Plenty of choice and the cooked food was served on piping hot plates. Best of all, Jackie and Jan, the two wonderful ladies who served us. Actually they did more than serve, they made our breakfast memorable and warm. I hope these two ladies are well regarded by the hotel management, as we really want to return based upon their personal and very welcoming characters. Lovely, lovely ladies.
In case you didn’t realise, we thoroughly recommend this hotel.

AAndrew from SporeWas visiting a relative so needed a convenient place. My priority is cleanliness. Am coming from Asia / Tropics so was apprehensive over heat and non-aircon. Room was a bit warm but it cools at night esp if you leave window open. I had a handheld fan which served my purpose - I had it on the whole night to cool me. My room was on 3rd floor so it meant I had to climb 2 flights of steps each time I went up. With heavy luggage, this cld be a problem. The room was otherwise, clean, quaint and comfortable. Some may say small & old but that I didn’t mind. Small window overlooking the river and park - nice. Bathroom was small and shower if you are big, you won’t fit in. Otherwise clean. Surprised they provided daily breakfast which was simple but sufficient. Location is 10 mins walk from the city center. I walked to the train stn - that took me 40 mins. I love walking so enjoyed the walks to town and the open country (following the river away from the town centre). I stayed 2 nights; 1st ~ 56 quid and 2nd nite ~75 quid. Great value.
