"I stayed at this apartment for five nights in Dalian and was unexpectedly satisfied. It's incredibly convenient for airport transfers, with direct access via Metro Line 2. Located in Donggang, the sea views are stunning and within walking distance. Public transport, including buses and the metro, makes it easy to reach various attractions and commercial areas. With your room card, the fourth-floor elevator provides direct access to Kaidan Plaza, which offers a fantastic and affordable selection of dining options. There's also a Better You supermarket on the mall's basement level. Seafood stalls offer free cooking services for purchases over 80 yuan, and you get a 2% discount when paying with your Fraser Place room card. The room was clean and well-maintained, with excellent amenities, even laundry detergent, which was a very thoughtful touch. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and responded quickly. "While the facilities are decent, the soft services are severely lacking, and the room service response time is frustratingly slow.
My recent stay at the Cosco Intercontinental Hotel was incredibly disappointing and definitely didn't live up to the pricing or reputation of an international five-star brand. The most unbearable part was when my child had a fever, and I called guest services to ask for a thermometer. They told me they didn't have one and instructed me to call the front desk. The front desk then replied, 'Guest services will send one up to you shortly.' So, do they have one or not? Of course, I returned it to the front desk the next day and immediately went to a pharmacy to buy my own. When a guest requests assistance, especially with a child suddenly falling ill, shouldn't there be a clear response protocol? Zero points for that. On a positive note, Mr. Eric Sun Yong, who works at the entrance, was very enthusiastic and helped guests with their luggage. Also, the lounge staff brought rice for my child two days in a row, which showed an effort to make guests' stay enjoyable."

"The hotel's location is great, right by Friendship Square and close to Metro Line 2, making it super convenient for getting around. There are shopping malls like Dalian Shopping Mall and Intime City nearby, and downstairs, there's a snack street with fruits, seafood, local specialties, and everything you could want.
The facilities aren't brand new, but they're quite clean, and the service is very good. The only minor issue was that it took a bit of time to get the water heater temperature just right; otherwise, everything was perfect."

What I was most satisfied with was the service; everyone from the front desk to the housekeeping staff was very polite. They even offered warm porridge in the evenings. When checking out, they proactively asked if I wanted a bottle of water for the road, which was a particularly heartwarming detail.

JJoshuaLThe (apart)hotel is located steps away from the seaside and 东方水城 with plenty of eateries (but definitely less than what you get if staying at 中山广场 for example - we purposely chose to be close to the seaside here). The staff from bellboy to front desk/ cleaning staff is also eager to please with smiles all around, definitely pleasant interactions.
On the downside, there was a heavy smoke smell at the hallway leading to our unit, and upon confirmation with the staff working at the floor during the time, turns out that the person living next door is smoking 🥲 this smell did creep into our unit over time, which led me to request air purifier and open the windows to improve circulation. Also I need to turn *off* ventilation at the bathroom to prevent smoke smell. Luckily, the situation improved during our stay (so I decided against requesting to change units) since the occurrence of smoke smell became less (perhaps the resident checked out/ decided to smoke less?). Anyhow, this did damper our experience.
Also to note a service suggestion due to the smell I immediately requested a purifier unit, didn’t realize that there’s already one sitting in the unit. I also requested detergent since washing machine is available in the unit, didn’t realize that it’s readily available inside the bathroom. While the receptionist happily agreed to my request when I called to request the items (upon checking into my room), they could have also just informed me where they are located to avoid the redundant request. Also, perhaps the detergent should be placed visibly/ closer to the washing unit instead of being together with toothbrush etc inside the drawer in the bathroom - just a suggestion.
Breakfast offerings while great is also nothing to wow about (one of our main considerations for hotel selection is to look at breakfast pricing listed, which is 198 RMB in this case, which is on the higher end, so we were expecting some kind of a wow factor). Yes, the restaurant is located on the 67th floor offering nice view, but the spread is nothing to rave about - it’s your typical above average breakfast spread with additionally a little seafood selection. During our stay I did come across an offer to purchase breakfast for 108 RMB in one of the platforms, and I think the value is much closer to this rather than 198, so something worth calling out.
So all in all, good hotel with great location/ views/ staff - calling out the smoking issue (more of a people problem rather than hotel’s, but I would wish/ expect that indoor smoking should be non existent for 5-star establishments, which isn’t the case here), and secondarily the breakfast value. The shower issue (lower pressure/ time to heat) from other reviews is also real, but not a big deal for us.

The service was excellent, particularly Amanda who assisted me. The hotel's butler contacted me the day before check-in and thoughtfully helped me with all my concerns regarding check-in, the room, and luggage storage. It was truly considerate. The service was great; she tracked my flight the whole time and responded instantly to any questions I had, helping me resolve them. This experience was genuinely fantastic and very thoughtful. Next time, I'd definitely stay here again for the service alone, and I'll be sure to find Amanda.

The room wasn't particularly impressive; the ocean view room had a decent location but the balcony was small, and the room itself was long and narrow. The interior decor and amenities felt a bit budget-friendly. The location is excellent, and parking is convenient, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're not driving yourself, as the surrounding area doesn't offer much. The management didn't feel up to par with other hotels in the same class, especially considering Dalian generally has high hotel service standards; this one was just so-so. The staff seemed quite unmotivated, and some of the outdoor facilities in the park weren't being utilized. Overall, the value for money was just average.

AAnonymous UserThe room was decent. Though a bit old, it was clean and tidy. It seems to have been recently renovated, as there was still a slight smell of renovation. The location is quite good. I was traveling with an elderly person and a child, so I didn't really need the subway; indeed, the hotel isn't particularly close to the subway. Considering my companions, we mostly took taxis, and it was quite convenient to wait for them in the lobby downstairs. It's very close to Donggang, which naturally means it's a bit far from Xinghai.
Regarding the service, I honestly didn't find it as good as at other Shangri-La hotels I've stayed at. It's not that the service was particularly bad, but during my four-day, three-night stay, apart from the very warm and greeting cleaning staff, I felt no sense of 'home away from home' from the front desk to the supervisors to the restaurant staff. It's not that I expect greetings, but even my child noticed it. She'd ask me, 'Why isn't that auntie smiling?' or 'Why is that uncle so serious?' They even ignored my child's greetings.
In terms of value for money, I found it pretty good, especially since I booked a children's themed room for one night and used vouchers for a standard room for the other two nights. They saved me the hassle of changing rooms by upgrading me to the children's room for all three nights. The staff who restocked the room items was very enthusiastic and patiently answered all my questions, which was excellent! 👍🏻
Breakfast could involve queuing, probably because the restaurant isn't very large, but it was generally orderly. On one day, no one helped me to a table, and without being seated, I couldn't tell which tables were available. Fortunately, after I brought it to their attention, it was quickly resolved. There's a Lawson convenience store downstairs, and I actually think having breakfast there wouldn't be a bad option...
As for the kids' club, it's located at the back, and they didn't proactively inform me that it was included with my room type unless I specifically asked. Receiving快递 (express deliveries) was very convenient; the concierge department checked them meticulously. I'm not trying to trash the hotel, just being honest. Finally, they gave L'Occitane souvenirs, which, if you know, you know. The public areas were quite nice; I forgot to take photos because I was always with the kid. The 13th floor had a good street view too. Overall, it was neither particularly good nor bad.

GGuest UserThis was my second time choosing this hotel for a layover because it's close to the airport. Last year's stay was great, the price was reasonable, and the receptionist was very friendly and attentive. This year, I booked a standard double room. When I arrived, the receptionist said the window was an interior view window facing the corridor. Since I need a window in my room, I asked how much an exterior view window would cost. I think booking directly through Ctrip usually costs an extra 40+ RMB. Of course, I didn't expect the hotel to upgrade for free, so I asked the receptionist how much extra it would cost. She looked at the computer screen with a calculating expression and said, ”Add 99 RMB.” I said, ”Oh? Isn't it only 40+ RMB?” Then they asked for my ID. I didn't say whether I needed it or not. Seeing that I didn't react, they didn't look at me, still looking at the screen, and said, ”Okay, here's 49 RMB.” I said, ”No need. The original room is fine.” This is supposed to be a proper hotel, but upgrading a room is like a free market?
The TV remote was covered in a thick layer of dust, probably because it wasn't used often and the staff hadn't cleaned it properly. I pressed a button and the TV turned on, but then the remote stopped working. I opened the back cover and saw that the batteries were chewed up and bent out of shape – I wonder how long ago it was? Was it a previous guest or a staff member?
My flight was at 7:30 the next day, so I asked the front desk for a 5:00 wake-up call. The receptionist was very responsible. The hotel doesn't offer airport shuttle service before 7:00, so I hailed a taxi outside the hotel. It was easy to get a taxi.

AAnonymous UserI've stayed at all the five-star hotels in Dalian – the Shangri-La, Grand Hyatt, Castle, Conrad, Hilton, and New World, from Donggang to Renmin Road and Xinghai. Years ago, I had a few meals and afternoon tea at the Kempinski, and my impression was quite good. This time, I was back in China for a business trip near the hotel. Even though the hotel had changed its name, I booked three nights and four days, drawn by fond memories and the convenience, as I had never actually stayed there before. The result was a huge disappointment! This is definitely a hotel I would never choose again.
Let's start from arrival. Coming from the airport by taxi, I had one large suitcase and three carry-on bags. There were no staff at the entrance. Just as I was struggling, a male staff member saw the taxi and came out to help with my luggage. During check-in, the front desk staff said they had upgraded my room and very enthusiastically offered to take me to the room. In the process, they asked for my WeChat, saying it would be convenient for service. After I gave it to them, they just turned around and left, not escorting me to my room. This felt very insincere! They completely disregarded how tiring it is for a customer who has just traveled.
So I dragged all my luggage by myself to the room, which turned out to be a corner room next to a dilapidated fire exit. Upon entering, my first impression was that the hotel's blackout curtains were fully closed, and the colors were very dark, making the whole room feel incredibly oppressive. I then requested a room change. Later, a young female staff member came to the room to bring a new key card, helped me view the new room, and assisted with moving my luggage. Her service was excellent! I'd like to thank that young lady.
Now, about breakfast. I only went once out of three days and didn't bother going again. The food was unappetizing, and the hygiene was poor. Uncleaned dishes were left in plain sight after guests finished eating. Waiters constantly made screeching noises dragging chairs. Two waiters were chatting, and even after I signaled them, they didn't respond. The entire restaurant staff lacked a sense of service.
I considered changing hotels in the middle of my stay, but I was too lazy to bother. I finally endured until checkout day. The front desk then asked for a good review, without asking about my real feelings at all. The entire check-in and stay experience was awful. I honestly can't give a positive review against my conscience.

The house keeping team had entered my room 2 times within the 4 days during my stay.
A not-disturb card was hang as well as the not-disturb light was also turned on.
Upon the first enter, I had went to raise the issue with the hotel. The initial reply was the not-disturb card might be ‘moved’ when I opened the door for exiting. Little that they know I had took photo when I make myself leaving the room. On top of that, the no-disturb light was also on too even they falsely claimed card was moved.
Then the hotel replied that ‘oh no, they must of entered the room to tidy up the room’. Yet, the room was NOT tidying up at all.
Again, what’s the purpose for them to enter the room without my consent and my present? I questioned by expressing this may be a careless mistake which I do not wish to happen to anyone anymore, then I had left the scene and leave it as it is.
It HAPPENED AGAIN next day, I was frustrated and questioning the hotel again. They said they will ‘investigate’ and given me an explanation of what was happening. 2 hours later they rang to my room, and informed me that ‘due to you are staying alone with no companion, it is the policy of the hotel to check up on me to make sure I’m safe’
Really? ARE YOU SERIOUS? This is what they replied me of the case. Number 1, if this is the actual reason, why don’t they tell me the first time when this was happened. Number 2, I had clearly stated I do not wish to be disturbed and yet it has not been respected. Number 3, due to the nature of my occupation, I’m staying in different hotel 9 months out of the whole year. I had never ever heard of this.
Long story short, I will not going back to this hotel nor recommend to anyone.
