"The hotel is aesthetically pleasing, has old world charm yet modern. Breakfast is good though sometimes a long queue is formed outside the restaurant.
But my check in was very disappointing. First the time it took for that staff to process it led me to think either their computer is not working or there's a problem with my booking (but I have received reminder from Trip.com.
Worst, that staff asked me to pay a sum which is about £100 more than the stated sum on my hotel voucher ( he even said specifically ”For the first night the amount is xxx, and for the second night, the amount is xxx, with a security deposit of £50, the total is £4xx.”I told him he made a mistake as the sum stated in my printed voucher is only £3xx. That staff is either incompetent or not trustworthy, and should not be working on front desk. ALWAYS CHECK THE PRICE ON YOUR VOUCHER."

"This is our third visit to this hotel. Our room was on the third floor, accessible via the lift and overlooked the waterfront. Comfortable, spacious and very clean. Parking cost £10 for 24 hours which we thought was reasonable. It’s an easy walk to the Millennium Centre for shows and events and everything else that Tge Bay offers. Staff are always friendly, especially check in staff and the lady who hosts breakfast. Breakfast is great with plenty of food and a good coffee machine. We particularly liked the care and attention from the lady who hosts breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble."

"Check in was a little slow, our room wasnt ready at check in time however they gave us complimentary drinks as an apology so we had a drink while we waited am extra 30minutes or so. The ladies at reception were very polite and helpful, rooms were clean however the only downside was our shower drain was blocked and that took an army to solve. We ended up switching rooms in the end but the communication was terrible. Breakfast was good although their coffee machines seemed not to work properly for most part of the morning. Overally a good hotel, excellent location, pool was warm, sauna was good, gym was a bonus. A relaxing stay"

"Stayed one night. Not sure if because of renovation, the reception area wasn't very welcoming, pretty much self check-in set up but staffed too. Busy hotel, popular pool, gym, need to wait your turn for sauna & steam room but Impressed with facilities. Room service food was basic. The room definitely need updating and shower pressure not great. Overall fine though, would stay again."

"I stayed here for 2 nights and had such a great time. The hotel is in a strategic location in the city centre, very close to many stores, restaurants, and pubs. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was decent, and the room had good amenities, though it was a bit congested. Thankfully, I was staying alone, so it wasn’t an issue.
There’s no parking available at the hotel, so if you’re travelling by car, I recommend parking at Cardiff Central Train Station Carpark, it’s just a 2-minute walk and reasonably priced."

"1. I was allocated a room without window. It's terrible and unbearable stuffy. In such room you can not enjoy the staying let along the sea view. After I called the reception,I got a new room with balcony which is better.2. The facility is too old and the decoration style must be the last century"

Very Good
GGuest UserOur room was very quiet, and the bed was quite spacious. The hotel staff were incredibly attentive and thoughtful. The location is excellent – it's very close to the train station, just a short walk away. You'll find a wide selection of restaurants right next door, and a lively pedestrian street is also just a short distance away. Plus, it's conveniently located near many tourist attractions. Overall, extremely convenient!
SSitalI had a very enjoyable stay at Leonardo Hotel Cardiff. The room was well-presented, spacious, and I was pleasantly surprised to receive a complimentary upgrade to a larger suite. The service throughout my stay was excellent; staff were attentive, responded promptly to any requests, and went out of their way to ensure everything was seamless. A particular highlight was being offered a takeaway breakfast to accommodate my early train departure, which I greatly appreciated.
The only minor drawback was that the room could be somewhat noisy at times. However, this did not detract significantly from what was otherwise a very positive experience. I would be pleased to stay here again.
TTravelTime11Decent hotel, centrally located close to the train station making it a very convenient place to stay. Staff very welcoming and took into account my special request and booked me a quiet room which was appreciated.
Breakfast, nothing special, just like any other hotel breakfast in the uk. Good views at the breakfast area, staff on hand to help and often going out of their way to help.
Service was 10/10.
Rooms themselves felt a little old and could do with a touch up but comfy enough for a short stay! Coffee machine too!
GGuest UserI really enjoyed my stay overall. The location was fantastic—on a beautiful street—and the hotel building itself is stunning. When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by a very kind Italian gentleman, which gave me a great first impression. My room, though located in a separate area, was clean, modern, and nicely decorated. Everything looked fresh and well thought out.
However, I was disappointed to find visible stains on the bed sheets. While I believe they had been washed, the stains hadn’t come out and the sheets were still used, which didn’t match the high standard the rest of the hotel presented. I think they should have replaced them.
Another minor inconvenience was the bathroom light, which was automatic and triggered the extractor fan. This meant that even during the night, using the bathroom caused the noisy fan to stay on for a while, which could’ve been avoided with a manual light switch, in my opinion.
Despite these issues, the stay was mostly very positive, but I can’t give a full five stars because of the sheets. Hopefully this can be improved for future guests.
GGuest UserI have a really mixed feeling about this hotel. I booked the superior room with tree lined view and asked for a quiet room: the receptionist gave me an extremely cold and noisy room right next to the motorway and above some nightclubs. My watch has identified the noise level is over the normal limit. I couldn’t fall asleep due to the loud noise even at midnight. I called the receptionist to change a room. Unfortunately, they first gave me a standard room that the heating system was not working and much smaller than I have paid for. The two maintenance officers who came to check the heating system are very helpful and suggested to change to another room. Only by then, I was able to change to another room that matched the similar sized of a superior room, but without tree lined view. I must say that all the receptionists were friendly and polite but behind their friendliness, they are not really helpful at all. I had my dinner, a sea bass meal, at the restaurant - see the photo. The dinner and the service was both outstanding. The kettle in the room was not very clean; it could easily be cleaned by using small spray to remove the calcium. The gym and swimming pool are excellent. If you are not used to live in really loud room, please double check with the receptionists. It is also not worth to pay an extra 10 pounds per night to get a so called tree lined room with extreme loud noise. I also wonder the reason for the hotel to give customers rooms that the heating system are not working. It would helpful to check before they allocate room to customers. It would also helpful that the hotel ensure that the room has reasonable temperature before admitting guests, esp on a very cold winter night. Overall, this is not a very good experience. I was not able to sleep for a whole night. I paid extra in the hope of getting a better and quiet room but ended up with one of the worst room without getting any compensation.
DDixi.jhaveri INDAmazing reception service for 24/7 hence need to submit keys every time u step out which is good as no stress of handling keys and loosing it !
Rooms are good cozy and comfortable . Good tv channels
Tanle fan , hair dyrer , towels, provided
Its a main highstreet with all restoaurants near by.
So its ok opt for rooms without breakfast
CCHEI WAI GRACEThe apartment is very clean and convenient. Walking distance to the nearby supermarket and restaurants. It’s only 3 minutes drive to the University of Cardiff.
GGuest UserGood location not far from centre of Cardiff. Service was poor, receptionists seemed like they didn’t want to be working there and breakfast staff like their family had just died. That said the breakfast was good quality and the room was good. Needed some cobwebs removed and mould cleaned from bathroom
GGuest UserThe hotel was nice, as it has a lovely swimming poo, so na and steam room. Very few chair for relaxing in the pool area, some people were sitting on the floor with their towels. Breakfast was the same with bit of change in their biscuits cereal. Bad side for food is that they offered scamble eggs only, fried and pouches eggs and omelette they charge for them.
It was my first time at the hotel or in Cardiff, it was Xmas even they seem kinda busy check in was suppose to be 3oclk but when we got there room was not ready and the receptionists were just cool about that, had to go to the desk and ask constantly which s boring.
The hotel is clean but I think their cleaning management is not up to standard, I had missing items in the room, like towels and next day I had to ask for handwash gel 100 times as it was not replaced. If you book with them maybe get yourself a suite room unlike just an ordinary room. It is a 4 star hotel was expecting a lot from them.
GGuest UserI’m so glad we decided to stay at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff. I’d been given the very important job of finding a place to stay overnight for my friend’s special birthday. I didn’t really know where to start, so I compared prices of hotels in the area. I was surprised to find that the ‘budget’ hotels Premier Inn and Travelodge were no cheaper than The Coal Exchange for the given dates! I had a look at the photos and reviews and it looked perfect for a special occasion. It was steeped in history with the interior design staying true to the period in which it was built. Originally, as there were five of us, I had booked the sextuplet room. It looked amazing and we were all really excited about staying there. Unfortunately though, due to maintenance work being carried out on that part of the building, we had to change our plans to three double rooms right next to each other. The rooms were beautiful. Floor to ceiling double windows, opulent wallpaper, ornate period furniture and a lovely comfortable centrepiece bed.
The bathrooms had gorgeous jacuzzi baths and stone basins.
The following morning we had a delicious breakfast in Culley’s Restaurant situated inside the Coal Exchange.
The staff here are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay.
Can’t wait to go back.
