The rooms and the public bath were clean. However, the breakfast buffet was a big disappointment. We were informed that breakfast was served until 9:30 AM (with the buffet closing at 10:00 AM). However, when we arrived around 8:50 AM, about half of the items were already empty. Despite having 3-4 staff members present, they frequently replenished plates and utensils, but no food items were refilled at all. I also felt that the initial selection of dishes was quite limited, which made the buffet seem even more meager. Most of the dishes I had wanted to try were already gone. There were only two pieces of one type of bread left. For dessert, just a single small bowl of canned fruit and one yogurt remained. It made me wonder what other options there might have been earlier. I paid an extra ¥1,500 for this breakfast, but in hindsight, I should have just gone to the nearby Sukesan Udon instead.
Beautiful living room and lots of helpful information on Aso and the nearby regions. Would recommend to stay there for at least for a few days as it is worth it. The dorm rooms have comfortable beds and basic amenities. The headspace for dorm beds is high, I can actually sit upright without bumping my head. Bathrooms are extremely clean and they have a full kitchen and common area with games, cards, and a really warm wood stove. Go for a soak at the onsen across the street after a long day at Aso, you can get a discount if you purchase a ticket directly from the hostel.
The accommodation was clean and nice. We had a view of Mt. Aso, so it was really great. The view from the accommodation was fantastic.
However, many group tourists came, and we had to wait in line for breakfast and dinner, and the food was not great. The steak was tough. The bed mattress was spring and the blanket was cold. The hot spring in the public bath was not big, but it was enough. However, the powder room was crowded. The biggest disappointment was that there were no yukatas and there were strangely styled clothes. They were very old and only one size, so my husband asked for a larger size because it was too small, but it was not big. Other accommodations had various sizes... The accommodation fee was also high because it was peak season. Compared to that, the hotel seems to focus more on convenient operation rather than customer service. Even because it was not a package, they did not provide free water in the accommodation. They told me to get it from a vending machine. It was very disappointing.
The staff is friendly and provide good service.
The bath house is normal, but can tell its age.
I feel the room is very dusty, it’s making my hand itchy and nose sneezy all the time. The bathroom is also old with water marks and mould.
I am a fan of Dormy Inn and have stayed in Dormy Inn branches at Aomori, Hachinohe, Tokyo, and Osaka before, but this Kumamoto branch has the most room for improvement.
The hotel is in walkable distance to the castle, so it is great.
I booked this hotel last minute for my trip to Kumamoto.
The location is great; it's just a short walk from the bus station. The popular Katsuretsu Tei restaurant is also right next door, making it super convenient for dining and shopping.
The hotel itself feels quite new and well-maintained. The room isn't huge, so it's not exactly spacious for two people, but it's perfectly adequate. Because everything is relatively new, it was a comfortable stay, and the overall check-in experience was good.
Check-out time is a bit early on the second day, but you can leave your luggage at the front desk and pick it up later in the evening when you're ready to leave.
If you're visiting for tourism, this is a solid choice, mainly because of its new facilities and excellent location.
Everything is good except for the small bathroom. It's simple, but the breakfast is also good. The location is near Sakuramachi Terminal, so it's easy to access, and there are many shopping places and restaurants nearby.
This hotel offers great value for money, and I've stayed at Toyoko Inn locations before. Its prime location, right to the right after exiting Kumamoto Station, makes it incredibly convenient for transportation. The complimentary breakfast offers a wide variety of options and the thoughtful touch of allowing guests to take food back to their rooms is much appreciated.
Good if you like old school charm hotel, room and service. Castle view room was a disappointment - have to stand at the side of the window to actually see the castle :(
Location was great and parking was onsite. There’s a driveway at the front of the hotel and from there, the staff guided us to their onsite parking. It’s as advertised JPY1000 per day but on day of checkout, parking is until 11.30am. After that, cheaper to park elsewhere (JPY100 for 15mins vs JPY200 for 2hrs at Kumamoto Castle).
We stayed with two small children, and they provided amenities for them and lent us cute pillows, which made the children very happy. The breakfast was also filling and delicious. The staff were very considerate and we had a very enjoyable time. Thank you very much. We would like to use the hotel again.

MM50876****For the price, it's absolutely fantastic value for money. While the room facilities aren't new, you can tell they're meticulously maintained; everything is clean and presentable. The hotel's location is also ideal, just a stone's throw away from the bustling commercial district and tram stops. Overall, I'm very satisfied.
GGuest UserIt was comfortable! ❢
The greetings were pleasant, the room was spacious and clean, and the location was great.
The changing room in the large bath was clean, the air conditioning worked well, and it was very comfortable.
The welcome sweets and drinks were also a nice touch. They maintained a reasonable distance, making it a truly relaxing and relaxing inn. 💖
2203903****Check-in was very efficient and convenient, and the service was standardized with all important information clearly communicated! The room arrangement was excellent, with attention to every detail! Breakfast was also great! The service was attentive! It's right at the entrance to a commercial street! Shopping, supermarkets, and dining are all very convenient! The hotel price is also very reasonable! The best experience I've had in Kumamoto! It's a ten-minute walk from the bus stop for Fukuoka Airport and just over a kilometer's walk to Kumamoto Castle.
AAnonymous UserFor my three relaxing days in Kumamoto, I picked this hotel, which boasts a prime location. We relied solely on the tram for all our excursions, and its superb location meant most places were just a couple of stops away – truly fantastic. I also got to visit all the restaurants and cafes I'd been eager to try. Sakuramachi shopping mall is directly opposite, just a five-minute walk away, and there's a bus stop there with services to the airport. The hot spring on the 12th floor, featuring both indoor and outdoor baths along with a sauna, was a wonderful bonus.
MMahulaThe most amazing hot springs in the entire trip to Japan, it was worth taking a taxi (the bus stopped due to heavy snow)
Japanese rockery garden, close to the river, hot spring pools are indoors and outdoors, and there are family soups. The food is also good. The waiters don’t speak English, but their body language is very rich and the communication is pleasant. It is a place worth visiting N times
I plan to go again if I have the chance
GGuijiduanduanThis hotel is located on the left side when you exit Kumamoto Station, so the location is excellent. It's a newly opened hotel, and the lobby smells incredibly fragrant and pleasant. The room and bathroom are quite spacious for Japan, and there's a sofa which is very convenient for putting things on. The streetcar right outside the door makes it easy to get to Kumamoto Castle and other attractions. The only downside is that there's no hot spring bath. I'd definitely stay here again next time I visit.
GGuest UserI honestly do not know where to start, I booked the hotel without really knowing much about Kumamoto Prefecture. After arriving in Kumamoto City and then realising Ueki Onsen is another 40 minute bus ride I was thinking oh dear where am I staying. After arriving at the hotel I was greeted by the manager of the hotel who showed me to my room and gave me a tour of the facilities. Once settled in I realised there isn't great public transport around and I primarily wanted to see Beppu and Yufuin during my stay, I enquired with the manager on where I might be able to rent a car, with little to no Japanese language under my belt he took it upon himself to reserve a vehicle for me and offered to drive me himself to collect it. He then also said he would take me back to return it a few days later. After my trips to Beppu and Yufui village (Not to be missed) and not to miss the outstanding and beautiful surroundings in Uekimachi and the Aso region. The manager and I set off to return my hire car, on the way back he took me to Kikuchi shrine to pray and also gifted me coffee and cake. They also accommodated me with use of the on site onsen (amazing) after hours as I'm heavily tattooed. I feel truly grateful to have found this hidden gem of rural Japan and if you are thinking of traveling this great country I emplore you to go off the beaten path. I experienced untold kindness during my stay and have memories of a life time. Thank you so much guys
DDoudoulaodouWalk about 100 meters to the right from the JR station; it's in the same building as AMU Plaza, and you can take the AMU elevator directly to the lobby. The staff were incredibly warm and well-trained. The room was spacious and well-appointed. Breakfast was very rich and varied. There are many dining options on AMU's 6th floor, including a highly-rated conveyor belt sushi restaurant; I tried to get in twice but gave up after being told there would be an hour-long wait. If you're on a higher floor, you can see the Kumamoto Castle keep in the distance – check out the photo taken from my 12th-floor room.
