He then built a palace and expanded the royal palace area until Wat Chaeng became a temple within the palace, similar to Wat Phra Sarasasphech in the Ayutthaya period. During the Rattanakosin period, it was renovated during the reign of King Rama II and was given a new name, Wat Arun Ratchathanam, and has been renovated ever since. Until the reign of King Rama IV, the ashes of King Phutthaloetla Naphalai were invited to be enshrined in the Buddha seat of the principal Buddha image in the ordination hall and he gave a new name to it, Wat Arun Ratchawararam, and it became the temple of his reign. Wat Arun is considered a temple with priceless architectural beauty, especially the prang, which consists of a large prang and 4 small prangs around the 4 directions, standing prominently on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, becoming a symbol of beauty that is evident to the eyes of the world. Another highlight that you must not miss is the giants of Wat Chaeng who stand guard in front of the ordination hall door. The white giant is named Sahasadecha, and the green giant is named Thotsakan. They are giants in Chinese art style, holding a large club.
