Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan | Bangkok

Wat Arun Ratchawararam, or as it is colloquially known as Wat Chaeng or Wat Arun for short, is an ancient temple built in the Ayutthaya period. The name Wat Chaeng was given because King Taksin the Great had just finished his war and returned in the morning. It is said that it was originally called Wat Makok and later became Wat Makok Nok because another temple was built in the same sub-district, but it was in the Bangkok Yai canal. The locals called the newly built temple Wat Makok Nai and then Wat Makok, which was at the mouth of the Bangkok Yai canal, Wat Makok Nok. As for the reason why the name was changed to Wat Chaeng, it is believed that when King Taksin the Great established his capital in Thonburi in 2310, he arrived in front of this temple at dawn, so he gave it a new name, Wat Chaeng. However, this belief is incorrect because the long poem by Mom Phimsen, an Ayutthaya period literary work that describes the journey from Ayutthaya to Phetchaburi, already mentioned the name of this temple as Wat Chaeng at that time. When King Taksin the Great ordered the construction of his royal palace, he used Fort Wichaiprasit on the west bank as the location of the palace and expanded the royal palace area until Wat Chaeng became a temple inside the palace. Similar to the Ayutthaya period Wat Phra Si Sanphet, it is the home of the Phra Phuttha Maha Mani Ratana Patimakorn, which was invited from Vientiane in 1778 before being moved to Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram in 1784. Wat Arun is open to tourists every day from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Thais get in free, foreign tourists pay an entrance fee of 40 baht per person). Wat Arun can be reached conveniently by boat or car. - By boat, you can take the Chao Phraya Express Boat and get off at Tha Tien. Then, take a ferry from the Phra Nakhon side to the pier in front of Wat Arun. - By car, from Pinklao Road, turn onto Arun Amarin Road, pass Siriraj Hospital, and continue straight until you reach the Royal Thai Navy Dockyard Department. You will see the entrance to Wat Arun not far away. #TravelAroundThailand #WatArunRatchawararamWorawihan #TravelAroundThailand #Bangkok #WatArunRatchaworawihan #Beautiful temples throughout Thailand #Thailand #Waiting for departure day #Visit Bangkok #Old temples #Beautiful temples in Bangkok #Worship at 9 temples #Buddhism #Convenient travel #Tourist attractions #History and culture #Don't miss the merit-making #Don't miss the photography #Million-dollar view #Sightseeing enthusiasts on weekends #Beautiful places to take photos #Worship and pray for blessings #Visit and pay homage to the chedi #Chedi #Thonburi side #Let's travel #Where to go #Walk and take photos #Faith guides the tour route #Thonburi side

🙏🙏🙏 Wat Arun Ratchawararam or as we call it, Wat Chaeng is an ancient temple that has been around since the Ayutthaya period. It was originally called Wat Makok Nok and is one of the most important temples in Bangkok. During the reign of King Taksin the Great, the capital was moved from Ayutthaya to Thonburi and he ordered Wat Chaeng to be a temple within the royal palace. At that time, it was also the place where the Emerald Buddha, which was brought from Vientiane, was enshrined. 📸📸📸 Don't miss it if you are a religious person who loves taking pictures. It is very beautiful. #WatArunRatchawararamWoramahawihan #BeautifulTemplesInBangkok #MakeMeritAndWorshipBuddha #VisitTheTempleAndMakeMerit #BeautifulTemplesInThailand #Bangkok #VisitBangkok #PlacesToVisitNearBangkok #ReviewBangkok #Thonburi #TakeBeautifulPhotos
