Wang Mai – This roadside restaurant in Samre area is the one that we always think of when we want to eat delicious Teochew Chinese food, especially the Chinese fish dishes that the restaurant slices itself. The cooking skills of this restaurant are truly excellent, hard to compare with newer restaurants because the grandma who has been cooking at the restaurant for over 50 years personally cooks every dish. Most importantly, the prices are very affordable. For this meal, we ordered food like we were at a fancy Chinese restaurant, but after paying a thousand baht, we still had change. We ordered the following: ➡️ Fish Head Hotpot with Taro The Chinese fish head is fried until the skin is crispy, boiled in a delicious soup with soft taro and served in a hot pot. We enjoyed slurping it down until we almost finished the whole pot. The highlight is the seasoning, which shows off the skill. The taste is rich but perfectly balanced. They use large river prawns with soft and bouncy meat. It's really good for the price. ➡️ Soft oyster omelet This is the original oyster omelet. The flour is thick but smooth, not sticky and sticky to the point of sticking to the throat and not clumping together. The oysters are cooked just right, soft and smooth. Sprinkle with ground pepper for a nice smell. I like it. ➡️ Steamed Chinese fish and fresh fish maw with plum Fresh fish maw is now considered a rare item that is hard to find, but this restaurant always has it available because they slice and prepare the fish themselves. This dish has both soft Chinese fish and fresh fish maw that are chewy and crunchy, and is made cleanly without any fishy smell at all. Steamed plums give a slightly salty and sour taste. If you like fresh fish maw, you must try this. ➡️ Fried cabbage with fish sauce We like the stir-fried dish with a smoky aroma mixed with the aroma of fish sauce. The cabbage is bright and crispy.
