The Royal Memorial of Love at Wat Sommanat Ratchaworawihan

🏰 Wat Sommanat Ratchaworawihan, a second-class royal monastery, was built in 1853 under the royal initiative of King Rama IV. The temple was constructed along the canal, reminiscent of Ayutthaya. 🙏 It was dedicated as a royal merit to Queen Sommanat Wattanawadi, the first consort, who had passed away. This is the origin of the name Wat Sommanat Wihan. 🏡 Upon completion, the temple became an ideal place for monks seeking tranquility, as it is located not too far from the city center. 🏰 The temple features Rattanakosin-style Thai architecture. Inside the ordination hall and the vihara, there are beautiful and intricate mural paintings. 🙏 The principal Buddha image in the ordination hall is Phra Sombuddhasiri, brought from Wat Ratchathiwat. 🙏 The principal Buddha image in the vihara is Phra Sombuddha Sommanat Wattanawadi Natbophit. 🛕 There are two stupas. The larger one is a golden stupa in the Lankan style, gleaming in gold, enshrining the Buddha's relics.
