Wat Nang Chi

Wat Nang Chi is a lesser-known royal monastery. Previously, there was no road access, and it could only be reached by boat. It has only been accessible by car for a few years now. The temple dates back to the mid-Ayutthaya period, was restored during the reign of King Rama I, and underwent major renovations in the royal style (a blend of Thai and Chinese art) during the reign of King Rama III. The temple features a chapel and vihara with Chinese-tiled gables, a twelve-cornered chedi, and a prang in the style of King Rama III, all surrounded by pristine white walls. Inside the ordination hall, there are murals depicting a gathering of deities, with the principal Buddha image in a meditative posture, surrounded by Buddha images in various postures facing the four directions. At the back is a reclining Buddha image. On the right side, there is a mondop housing the Buddha's relics. Every November, there is a tradition of pulling the Buddha's relics, which has been practiced since the early Rattanakosin period and is now the only one of its kind in Bangkok. The procession involves boats carrying the Buddha's relics along various canals, such as Khlong Bangkok Yai, Khlong Bangkok Noi, Khlong Bang Khun Si, and Khlong Chak Phra (the tradition of pulling the Buddha's relics is the origin of the name Khlong Chak Phra).
