Explore the art and architecture of the early Rattanakosin period

🏡 Wat Monthop: The exact date and creator of this temple are unknown, but it is believed to have been built during the early Rattanakosin period in 1828. Originally called Wat Modop, Wat Madop, or Wat Padop, it was later renamed Wat Monthop. Key attractions within the temple include: 🏠 Ubosot: Reconstructed to replace the original building, the gable features stucco adorned with glass depicting a monthop (a traditional Thai pavilion). On both sides, kneeling angels with hands clasped in prayer are depicted. Below, there are five niches, each containing a figure of a Brahmin kneeling in prayer. Inside, the principal Buddha image is a sandstone sculpture in the Mara Vichaya posture, covered with stucco, lacquered, and gilded, reflecting Rattanakosin art from the reign of King Rama I.
