This is a question that this exhibition invites us to think about while walking through the artworks because the word Happy Birthday in this exhibition does not invite us to blow out candles, but rather invites us to reflect on how much happiness, pain, and growth are worth celebrating as human beings. UnderHatDaddy conveys the story through a character that originates from the love and pain of real life, such as “Chubby,” a plump, neckless woman who came from his own wife. The artist wanted to portray her in a stronger and brighter way, a picture of a woman who is full and lively. This exhibition was born from asking a simple question, “Why do birthdays always have to be happy?” UnderHatDaddy noticed that “Happy Birthday” is a word that everyone hears every year, along with cake, candles, and smiles. However, behind those greetings, some people are facing confusion, pain, or a difficult time in life. This exhibition is like opening a gift box called ‘life’, which inevitably contains happiness, fragility, failure, and growth. The artist does not want people to see the picture as “cute” or “beautiful” only, but wants us to “feel” and “understand” that everyone has fragile moments, understand that not every birthday will bring a smile, and understand that imperfections in life have their own beauty.
