Phanom Rung Stone Castle🌈

Phanom Rung Stone Castle or Phanom Rung Historical Park is an ancient stone castle built mostly from pink sandstone. It is located on the site of an extinct volcano in Buriram Province. In the past, this area was very fertile, so people moved in to settle there until it became a large community. The word 'Phanom Rung' comes from Khmer and means 'big mountain'. From various historical evidence, it is assumed that Phanom Rung Castle was built around the 15th - 17th Buddhist century to be the residence of Shiva, the supreme god of Hinduism, Shaivism. Later, in the 18th Buddhist century, King Jayavarman VII of the Khmer Empire converted to Mahayana Buddhism. This temple was converted into a Mahayana Buddhist temple and has been renovated and built over many eras.
