It is one of the largest and most beautiful Khmer castles in Thailand. It is dedicated to Shiva. The architecture is outstanding with intricate stone carvings that tell the stories of Hinduism and the beliefs of the ancient Khmer people. The walkway up to the castle is elegant with a five-headed Naga bridge and a long sandstone staircase leading to the main prang. Inside the prang, there was once a Shiva lingam, a symbol of Shiva. Currently, there is still a soma-sutra pipe to drain the sacred water. Phanom Rung Castle is planned along the east-west axis symmetrically, surrounded by a glass wall and a covered walkway. There are 4 ancient ponds, representing the ocean surrounding Mount Sumeru. The park has been meticulously restored, leaving the castle in perfect condition. Tourists can admire the beauty of ancient Khmer architecture, learn about history and culture, and enjoy the beautiful scenery from the top of the mountain. The phenomenon of sunlight shining directly through 15 doorways in April and September is a particularly popular time for tourists to visit. There is also a museum displaying antiques found within the park. The journey is convenient, with clear signs and a large parking lot. The entrance fee for foreigners is approximately 100 baht (subject to change). Overall, Phanom Rung is a historical and cultural tourist attraction that should not be missed.
