The Chengdu Science Fiction Museum, also known as the Chengdu Science Museum. The bidding was confirmed in June 2022, and it officially opened to the public on October 13, 2023. In the same month, from the 18th to the 22nd, it welcomed the 81st World Science Fiction Convention. The efficiency is simply amazing! 👍 However, seeing the grey dust everywhere, could it be that they were so rushed they didn't even have time for a thorough cleaning... 😂 【 Zaha's 'Divine Curves' 】 🌠 The venue's design comes from Zaha Hadid Architects' 'Nebula' plan, with the building's 'antennae' radiating outwards in different directions, the longest being approximately 208 meters east-west and 251 meters north-south. 🌠 The size of the canopy has been precisely calculated to provide shade for the glass curtain wall during summer. It is said to also collect and store rainwater for natural filtration and reuse. 🌠 Whether viewed from afar, from above, or within the venue, it exudes an unconventional sci-fi feel. 🌠 The design also hides some small ceremonial elements. Directly above the main hall, there is a water droplet-shaped glass area of 1382 square meters, with the designer intending to symbolize the universe's age of 13.82 billion years. 🌠 When exiting the venue, visitors pass through a time tunnel, enhanced by light and sound effects, creating a highly immersive experience. The sunlight pattern scattered at the exit, when viewed from afar, resembles an overhead view of the venue's exterior, offering a visually stunning impact! Walking through the venue, my mind is always filled with flashes of science fiction movies and novels I've seen, and with every few steps, a new vista unfolds. This is definitely the most design-forward building in Chengdu at the moment! 【 The Lack of Content 】 The venue is surrounded by lakes on three sides and faces the mountains on one side. The first floor features an interactive experience area, a cultural and creative area, a Three-Body themed area, and the Hugo Hall (not open to the public). The second floor is almost entirely made up of conference halls and is not open to the public, so the accessible parts seem very limited. As a fan of the Three-Body series, I was quite disappointed with the simple KT board layout and the lack of creativity in the presentation of the Three-Body themed area. 🛸 It seems that the Science Fiction Museum is more like a venue built for large exhibitions, and the regular content is not very rich.
