According to the legend of the construction of Phra That Si Song Rak, in the middle of the Nan River and the Mekong River, it was the result of the cooperation between King Sai Setthathirat of the Ayutthaya Kingdom and King Maha Chakkraphat, the king of Si Sattahip (Vientiane), Laos, who joined forces to fight against the Burmese who were expanding their territory and invading other countries. When the war ended, the two kings made a vow not to encroach on each other's territory, so they built Phra That Si Song Rak as a witness. In addition, there is a legend that a man and a woman who were separated in love died in this chedi tunnel. It is believed that the two fled into the tunnel and the craftsmen did not know, so they built and closed the tunnel, causing the spirits of the two to protect Phra That Sri Song Rak to this day.
