Wow! It turns out that the Lingnan No. 1 building in Wuxian Temple is so magnificent

The First Tower in Lingnan, also known as the Forbidden Bell Tower, is located on Poshan, Huifu West Road (see the Poshan Ancient Ferry Site), behind the present-day Wuxian Temple. It was built from the seventh year to the eleventh year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1374) and was organized and constructed by Wang Guangyang, then the Vice-Chancellor of Guangdong Province. The building is like a giant square well with a huge bell inside, and its purpose is to serve as a fire alarm. Since its construction in the early Ming Dynasty, the Forbidden Bell Tower has experienced several ups and downs. Today, the words "Rebuilt in the Wushen Year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1788)" are still inscribed on the wooden beams in the tower. In the 1940s, the building collapsed and disappeared. What we see today was rebuilt after 1949 and basically preserves its original appearance. The building is 17.45 meters high and its base is in the shape of a square platform made of red sandstone. It is hollow in the middle and has symmetrical arched doorways on all four sides. The top of the platform is a wooden structure open on all four sides. Under the double-eaved hip roof and glazed tile roof is a spacious pavilion. A huge bronze bell is hung on the top beam, and the bell mouth is exactly opposite to the square well-shaped hole in the base of the building. The square well-shaped foundation is actually a resonator for the giant bell. The sound of the bell revolves through the well hole, making the tone more powerful and melodious. This huge bell is the largest ancient bell still existing in Guangdong. It is 4.04 meters high, with a bell mouth diameter of 2.1 meters and weighs about 5 tons. There is an inscription in seal script on the bell, indicating that it was "cast by the Guangdong Provincial Administration Commissioner's Office" in the 11th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1378). On June 29, 1989, Wuxian Temple and Lingnan First Building were announced by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government as the third batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units. On March 5, 2013, Wuxian Temple and Lingnan First Building were announced by the State Council as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
