Many people introduce the Hancheng Confucian Temple as the "third largest Confucian Temple in China," only after the Beijing Guozijian and the Qufu Confucian Temple.
This is a very popular saying, but if you look into it, you'll find that this saying is only mentioned when promoting the Hancheng Confucian Temple, and you can't find any evidence elsewhere. It's most likely a concept created by the locals for promotion.
I personally think that this kind of hype is unnecessary. If it's not the third largest in China, is the Hancheng Confucian Temple not worth a visit? Of course not!
The Hancheng Confucian Temple is the oldest, largest, and best-preserved Confucian Temple in Shaanxi, combining the styles of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. It is a very beautiful national protected architectural complex, and I still can't forget it even after half a year.

The Hancheng Confucian Temple has four courtyards and twenty-two buildings, arranged along the central axis from south to north: Zhaobi, Lingxing Gate, Pan Pool, Ji Gate, Dacheng Hall, Minglun Hall, and Zunjing Pavilion. The buildings are mostly decorated with glazed tiles, flying eaves, dougong, painted carvings, and are dazzling.
The main hall, Dacheng Hall, has five bays in width and three bays in depth, with a Ming-style frame inside. The columns are decorated with large eaves, with two eaves columns removed, forming a typical Yuan dynasty architectural style.
The Hancheng Confucian Temple, Dongying Temple, and Chenghuang Temple together form the Hancheng City Museum, which is also the essence of the ancient city. The tickets are sold together, and if you like ancient buildings, one ticket for three temples is enough to spend half a day.
