Exploring Ancient Bridges in Southern Anhui: The Elegant Ming Dynasty Qingtan Bridge

Due to my love for ancient bridges and historical architecture, before going to Xuancheng, I collected information about ancient bridges in southern Anhui online and received many recommendations for lesser-known sites. The Qingtan Ancient Bridge in Hucun village of Jixi County (not the Taiji Lake village next to Longchuan) was right on the way to Jiapeng Township, so I stopped by to check it out. Qingtan Bridge is located at the upper water entrance of Hujia Village. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty and renovated in 1927 (the 16th year of the Republic of China), it runs north-south. It's a single-arch stone bridge, 20 meters long, 8 meters wide, and 10 meters high. Compared to the Yueyue Corridor Bridge I visited the day before, this bridge appears more delicate, but it features a beautiful arch with strong extension. Covered with moss, it has a unique charm. The stream below the bridge is emerald green, truly living up to its name "Qingtan" (Clear Pool). On one side of the bridge stands a stone mill pavilion, while on the other side is the Zhenwu Temple, built during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. According to an elderly resident living nearby, it has over 200 years of history and has never undergone major structural changes. When the water fills the stream or during misty rain, Qingtan Ancient Bridge must present an even more beautiful appearance.
