In the 23rd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1686), the then magistrate Yang Fangsheng established a Confucian Temple in Xinglong Village and Minglun Hall outside the old city of Zuoying, which was the educational center of Fengshan County at that time. The Chongsheng Temple of the Confucius Temple in the Old City is located in the Old City Elementary School. There is a lotus pond in front, Dagu Mountain and Banping Mountain in the distance, and Turtle Mountain and Snake Mountain nearby. It is a treasure land with outstanding people. County magistrates Song Yongqing and Li Piyu renovated the temple in the 43rd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1704) and the 58th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1719), respectively. In the 17th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1752), County magistrate Wu Shiyuan renovated the temple again. In the 51st year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, the Lin Shuangwen incident occurred, which damaged the Old City Confucius Temple. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese built the "Old City Public School" in the temple, which is now the Old City Elementary School. The original temple appearance was destroyed again. Currently, only the "Chongsheng Temple" and 11 stone tablets collected from nearby areas remain. The Chongsheng Temple still retains the "three-way and five-melon" roof frame of the Qing Dynasty. There are dragon-shaped pottery figurines and Qing Dynasty gourd ridge decorations on the roof. The old sandalwood tree next to it has been with the Chongsheng Temple for more than 200 years.
