Built in 1606, Wat Phra Yuen, Lamphun Province

#Winter travel destinations - Wat Phra Yuen originally did not have this name. It is assumed that Queen Chamadevi built it around 1213 (after reigning for 7 years). According to legend, this temple was called Aranyikaram. - The name of Wat Phra Yuen comes from the standing Buddha statue, which according to temple documents states was built in 1606 during the reign of King Thammarat (the 32nd king of Hariphunchai). This standing Buddha statue was cast from bronze and is 18 cubits (9 meters) high. It was originally enshrined in the Stupa (behind the temple). At this time, the temple was called Wat Phuttharam. - The temple was originally built during the reign of Queen Chamadevi before undergoing its most recent renovation in 1994. Inside is an old principal Buddha statue from the same era as the temple. Inside are newly painted murals by local craftsmen depicting the life of the Buddha. There is a small standing Buddha statue enshrined in the principal Buddha statue. The ordination hall at the entrance stairs has a Mom statue. The principal Buddha image is Phra Sakyamuni Sri Sumana or Luang Pho Yai.
