Tour of the Twelve Shrines of Okazaki "Sugao Shrine"

#Travelwithme I visited Sugo Shrine on the tour of the twelve shrines in Okazaki. Sugo Shrine is the oldest shrine in Okazaki, founded by Emperor Yamato Takeru in 110 AD, and enshrines Amaterasu Omikami, Toyoukehime, Susanoo, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and Sugawara no Michizane. This shrine is associated with the Matsudaira family and Tokugawa Ieyasu, who prayed for protection from misfortune and good fortune when he was 25 years old, and was highly revered, including donating a shrine and rice fields. Until the end of the Edo shogunate, it was a place of prayer for successive lords of Okazaki Castle, and received donations of shrines, torii gates, and other items from the lords, and was considered the guardian deity of the castle grounds. It is a cute, retro shrine with a flower water basin and heart-shaped votive plaques. It is worth a visit!
