Stepping onto Tongpan Island - Quiet time under the basalt

#AprilGoodDestinations2025 Among the many outlying islands of Penghu, Tongpan Island is a small island with spectacular scenery. This time I had the opportunity to take a boat to the island and visit this island sculpted by nature in person, and my heart was filled with awe and wonder. The most famous feature of Tongpan Island is its majestic columnar basalt. When I stood in front of the basalt, it was as if I was facing a huge stone wall. The neat and straight stone pillars were arranged into unique geometric patterns. It was hard to believe that this was formed naturally. It is said that these rock pillars were formed by the cracking of volcanic lava during the cooling process. Such geological landscapes are quite rare in Taiwan and even in the world. In addition to basalt, Tongpan Island also retains its original natural features. The island is sparsely populated, and when you walk on the trail, the only sounds you can hear are the sea breeze and your own footsteps. If you look up, you can see flying seabirds, and if you look down, you can observe small marine creatures among the rocks. The overall environment is very pure and natural. This trip to Tongpan Island allowed me to deeply appreciate the wonders of nature and rediscover the geological charm of Penghu. Although there are not many facilities on the island, it has retained its original tranquility and beauty, and is a good place for people to slow down and calm their minds. This is a dual journey of vision and soul. If I have the chance to visit Penghu again, I will not hesitate to climb Tongpan Island again and meet these rocks that are tens of millions of years old again.
