Karon Beach: Phuket Symbol

#beachcheck Karon Beach, located on the west coast of Phuket Island between Patong and Kata beaches, stretches for 5 km in length. The width varies from 50 to 70 m depending on the phases of high tide and low tide. The shore is covered with the so-called singing sand, which makes a crunching and barely audible whistling sound at every step, resembling the sound of a pipe. Transparent water in sunny weather acquires a rich turquoise color, and on rare cloudy days the shades change from emerald to indigo. There are no green spaces at the surf's edge, so you can hide from the scorching sun only under umbrellas. Palm trees and casuarinas provide natural shade, but they are located at a distance from the sea. The coastal area in the bay in the north, fenced off from the central part by a rocky cape, received an independent name Karon Noi (the word "noi" in Thai means "small"). The rest of the beach area, which runs almost in a straight line, is separated from residential buildings by a busy road, along which there is a landscaped promenade with a promenade. There is a small park at the roundabout intersection, and there is a lake next to it. The reservoir is of artificial origin: this is a flooded quarry where tin ore used to be mined. Even at the height of the holiday season, Karon Beach does not look crowded, and those who dream of a secluded vacation surrounded by a picturesque landscape will always be able to find a suitable place to relax. In the middle of the beach location there is a wooded park area with a river, over which bridges are thrown. The riverbed was laid after the devastating tsunami of 2004, and a dam was also built to protect against floods. Gazebos and benches are installed in the shady grove. Casuarina trees look like pines with long trunks, but with soft needles and without a coniferous smell. Horsetail-shaped branches are able to withstand the onslaught of tropical hurricanes, because they freely pass wind currents. Lilawadi trees blooming all year round, better known as frangipani or plumeria, drop white flowers with a yellow core on the ground, which have become one of the symbols of the country of a million smiles.
