Phra Mahathat Temple

It is believed to have been built in the Dvaravati period, around the 15th-16th Buddhist century, or around the time of King Jayavarman VII of Cambodia. It stands out with its 12-wa-high laterite prang, with mural paintings on the prang, and is also a temple where the Buddha's relics are enshrined. Wat Mahathat Worawihan has both the Royal Vihara, which enshrines Phra Mongkhonburi, a stucco Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya attitude, in the early Ayutthaya period art style, with a Sukhothai-style face, long body and short knees, meaning the body is long and the knees are short, facing east. Behind it, there is another Buddha image facing west, meaning a prayer for help, to be careful of disasters in front and behind, called the city's guardian Buddha according to belief.
