Perm Krai is located on the eastern part of the East European Plain and the western side of the Ural Mountains, along the Kama River. It is one of the federal subjects of Russia, belonging to the Volga Federal District. Formed on December 1, 2005, through the merger of the former Perm Oblast and Komi-Permyak Autonomous Okrug, it covers an area of 160,000 square kilometers with a population of 2.6 million (2020), of which 87.1% are ethnic Russians.
