Nagoya Airport Attraction: Visit the Largest Lucky Cat

Tokoname City is located on the western coast of the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture. It is one of Japan's six ancient kilns, known nationwide for its 'Tokoname-yaki' pottery. The city produces the most lucky cats in Japan, so as you walk through the city, you will see cat-related decorations in unexpected places, such as on railings by the bridge or on mailboxes. After getting off at Meitetsu 'Tokoname Station' and heading east for about 5 minutes towards the 'Ceramic Hall,' which serves as both a Tokoname-yaki exhibition and a tourist information center, you will encounter a concrete wall. This road is called 'Lucky Cat Street,' and perched above the wall, overlooking the lucky cats and the cityscape of Tokoname, is the giant 'Tokonyan,' which is 6.3 meters wide and 3.8 meters high. The 'Pottery Footpath' is located on a small hill in the center of Tokoname City, with some quaint buildings along the way where you can learn about the history and culture of Tokoname-yaki.
