Yongjiwei, Shanxiang Village, Xinfeng, Jiangxi

Yongjiwei was built in the 25th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1899 AD) and completed in the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928 AD). Yongjiwei faces south and is made of brick and earth with a gabled roof. It is 60 meters wide, 80 meters deep, and 68 meters high, covering a total area of ​​4,800 square meters. There were 36 families living in the walled house. Yongjiwei is a rectangular courtyard with residential areas and watchtower-style buildings at the four corners. The residential areas close to the walls inside the courtyard also have defensive functions. There are lookouts and shooting holes on the walls for external observation and defense. The houses within the enclosure are arranged neatly, with the main gate leading directly to the main hall, and rows of houses on both sides, all of which are two-story buildings. The hall consists of two wells and three halls. There is a deity. Most of the passages within the enclosure are paved with pebbles. The entire walled house is relatively well preserved and has certain reference value for studying local walled house architecture. Yongjiwei is not only a concentrated embodiment of Hakka culture, but also one of the five major distinctive residential buildings in China. It has been listed on the World Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO.
