"Shirarahama Beach is right out the back door of the hotel, which was super convenient! We stayed in a standard Japanese-style room with an ocean view. It was spacious enough for two people, but would be a bit cramped for three. The only downside was the bad weather during our visit. 😭"

Overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean and with views of the Kushimoto Bridge, Mercure Wakayama Kushimoto Resort & Spa has an amazing location for relaxed stays. Just steps away is Hashigui Beach, with its golden sands and clear waters, making it one of the best resorts in Kushimoto for a beach escape. You're also on one of the Kumano Kodo Trails, ancient pilgrimage routes that take you past shrines and healing sites. We're also just a few minutes' drive from the charming coastal town of Kushimoto.

"Right outside Kushimoto Station, you can spot the hotel's shuttle bus (there's a timetable, and it aligns with most Kuroshio train services). The hotel is a bit dated, but the cleanliness is decent. The room was very spacious, though the furniture is old. The guest lounge in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling windows in the lobby offers a variety of free beverages and overlooks the sea. We booked a half-board plan with dinner and breakfast. The buffet dinner and breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes, and we feasted on tuna sashimi until we couldn't eat anymore. Our mountain-view room overlooked a baseball training field. Watching the young people swinging their bats and hearing the crisp sound at sunset was very relaxing. The public bath was pretty standard, nothing particularly special. There's a circular bus service outside the hotel that goes between Kushimoto Station and various attractions, but the buses are infrequent and the waits are long, so I'd recommend taking a taxi instead. "The hotel's environment is fantastic, and the entrance garden landscape is absolutely beautiful. The seaside corridor is also stunning, and there's a dedicated hot spring area for foot soaks. The public outdoor hot spring views are also great. The only downside of my trip was the room I booked, which was supposed to have an indoor hot tub, but it turned out to be just a regular bathtub. Although the staff explained that the water was indeed from a hot spring, it still felt disappointing, so I didn't use it. I contacted Ctrip customer service about it, and their handling of the issue was very satisfactory. However, the public bath was a delightful surprise; both the environment and the soaking experience were incredibly comfortable. I highly recommend the dinner buffet. Even though it's a buffet, the ingredients are fresh, and the variety is extensive. You can even grill your own food. The tempura was exceptionally delicious, and they had Haagen-Dazs ice cream! Breakfast, however, wasn't as lavish and was quite simple. Overall, I'd say I'm satisfied."

"The hotel environment is clean and beautiful, and the service is very attentive. The breakfast buffet is abundant. We chose a Japanese-style (tatami) room, which was spacious and tidy. There's a large public onsen on the top floor, and private onsen baths are also available for reservation (3500 JPY per session). The swimming pool wasn't open, so we missed out on that. The location is very convenient, right next to Shirahama Beach. The only minor drawback is that the hotel is located on a hill, so walking up the steep slope back to the hotel every day was a bit of a challenge for our cardio and stamina, but we just considered it a workout, which was fine. If we come to Shirahama again, we'll definitely choose this place."

Set between the sea and the mountains, Grand Mercure Wakayama Minabe Resort & Spa is a tranquil hotel and resort in Wakayama Minabe where you can relax and recharge. Explore the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route with its cultural and religious sites, which ancient people believed could help you feel revived. The nearby mountains are covered in plum trees, which blossom in the spring, while the coastline is unspoiled, with rugged inlets and sandy beaches with clear blue seas.

"The rooms are spacious, but the hotel is quite old, so the facilities are outdated. However, because there are indoor and outdoor hot springs, many locals stay there on weekends, and the lobby bar offers complimentary snacks and drinks, making it good value overall. However, the hotel's location is remote, and there aren't many restaurants nearby, making it very inconvenient if you're not traveling by car."

"By making a reservation for check-in in advance, I was able to borrow the key smoothly. Although it is far from the information center, it is easy to find. Since I used it for motorcycle touring, there was a garage with an electric shutter on the first floor, which gave me a sense of security. There are restaurants far away, but they have tableware and cooking utensils, so I was able to shop at Toretore Market and a drugstore and have a drink at home, which was very satisfying."

"We booked a private hot spring room with two meals this time. Extremely satisfied! The front desk service was attentive and thoughtful. The hotel faces the beach directly, and the private hot spring is right on the balcony of the room. Soaking in the hot spring while enjoying the sea view was incredibly relaxing. The room was clean, tidy, comfortable, and cozy, with a full set of toiletries, bottled water, and snacks provided. The dinner was very rich, with fresh and delicious ingredients. While the breakfast options weren't as extensive, there was still plenty to eat. Overall, I'm very happy with my stay. Suggestion: Would it be possible to offer a late-night snack, like a bowl of ramen, for guests who have finished their hot spring bath around 9-11 PM? (I've experienced this at other hot spring hotels in Japan)."

The room is small and the location is remote, but the hotel scenery is really great! The hotel restaurant needs to be booked in advance, and there are no convenience stores nearby, and the restaurant is also far away. Remember to book a restaurant when you check in, otherwise you will have to go hungry. The hotel does not have Chinese service, and English communication is a bit difficult. The hotel's public bathing is free, and there are open-air bath seats. It was windy and rainy on the day I went there, and it was super cold. It was very comfortable to bathe. The location of the men's and women's bathrooms will be swapped, so remember to look at the sign at the door and don't go the wrong way.

The view is stunning, but taking the bus to Oura Station means you have to drag your suitcases up a bit, or catch the 6:00 PM shuttle bus from Shirahama Station. It's worth checking the shuttle bus schedule beforehand; the last one seems to be around 5:00 PM. The bathroom facilities are a bit dated, but the other services are good. With fewer Chinese tourists, it's mostly Japanese families with children. The indoor pool is a bit small, mostly occupied by the children. The breakfast was okay and filling, a typical hotel buffet, but they do offer mentaiko and tuna. On the way back, the hotel booked a taxi to the airport, which took 10 minutes. It's a bit far from Shirarahama, Senjojiki, and Sandanbeki, so it's best to get a timetable and have change ready if you're taking the bus.
