Romantic Hotels in Shanxi, China

This hotel boasts an excellent location within the ancient city, right next to Huayan Temple and the West Gate of the city wall, with a variety of dining options nearby. The proprietress is friendly, warm, and attentive, providing overall thoughtful service. The hotel environment is clean and tidy. The second-floor patio features a tea set, koi fish, peacocks, and parrots, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The guesthouse rooms are well-equipped with all necessary facilities, including a full range of toiletries.

Traveling as a family of three, we stayed in a suite with two bathrooms and a living room. The facilities were excellent, and the staff were incredibly attentive and thoughtful. Besides the welcome amenities upon check-in (tea, snacks, and lovely bed decorations), they even brought a foot bath bucket with herbal packs in the evening. They also noticed I was using my laptop and thoughtfully provided a mouse pad. All in all, I was extremely satisfied. I'll definitely stay here again if I have the chance.

This is a really good hotel for the Wutaishan area. The design is quite ancient and fits in well with the surroundings. After buying tickets to the scenic area, there's a shuttle bus that picks you up, and it only takes a few minutes to get there, which is very convenient. You can take the free No. 8 bus to attractions like Shuxiang Temple, and the hotel shuttle will even drop you off at the bus stop. Having stayed in too many Marriott properties, the differences here become apparent. The buffet selection was really limited, which was a shame. The faucet was quite rusty; it's time for a replacement. All the staff were very friendly!

A lovely traditional courtyard hotel with lots of character right in the heart of the old city within walking distance to everything you would want to see. The owner speaks good English and provides you with a map and details of beautiful Pingyao’s must see local attractions. The hotel is quiet and the Chinese breakfasts with either tea or coffee are delicious. The owner can also organise a good driver for any out of town excursions. Highly recommended

The hotel was located in a beautiful setting, and being immersed in such a historic environment made the experience feel special from the very beginning. What made this stay stand out the most was the feeling of living an authentic experience in this ancient city. Walking through the nearby streets and returning to the hotel each evening felt like stepping back in time, allowing me to fully appreciate the culture and character of the place. The overall atmosphere was charming and relaxing, making the stay not just comfortable but also culturally enriching. It was more than just accommodation — it felt like a genuine way to experience the true spirit of the city. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable stay in a historic setting.

As a hotel within a scenic area, the facilities were clean and tidy. We had a view of the Yellow River from our window, and the service was excellent. We received helpful reminders during both check-in and check-out, and even a thoughtful souvenir. The restaurant downstairs had delicious food; compared to where we ate the next day, both the portion sizes and taste were far superior and very reasonably priced.

This hotel is like a heavenly palace! And since it's the former Ming and Qing Imperial Examination Hall, it's definitely an experience worth having. We also had incredibly good luck on our trip! The Shanxi Restaurant usually only gives out 40 numbers per day for individual guests. We checked in after 7 PM, and the front desk staff was quite certain we wouldn't be able to eat there that day. We went over with the intention of just asking how to get a number for the next day, but as soon as we arrived, we were told they had added 10 extra numbers for that evening, and we got the very first one! We were led to our table within minutes! So happy!!! The staff giving out the numbers and the servers were all incredibly gentle and friendly. Shanxi Restaurant even put up a picture at the entrance, which made me like them even more!

The hotel is beautiful, specially the patios. The location is just 10 minutas walking from the North Gate of the wall. In reception they do not speak English, but they were very helpful with the translator. However, if you really need to rest, this hotel is not made for you. At 7am there were already families and kids shouting and playing in the patio. Even with taps, it was too noisy to keep sleeping. The hotel is also offering folkloric dressing and photos shoots, so you might find people take pictures in front of your room anytime, also at night with flashes

This was, without a doubt, the most satisfying hotel of my trip to Shanxi. When I booked it, I saw some reviews saying the hotel was a bit old, which made me a little apprehensive. But once I arrived, I was immediately impressed by the strict and orderly management, and every staff member was incredibly dedicated. The room was exceptionally well-maintained, spotlessly clean, and all the facilities were new. The bed was very comfortable. The bath towels were sealed in bags, and the hand soap was from Herborist. The only minor point was that the TV was a bit small, but we didn't really mind. The breakfast was incredibly rich and delicious; both adults and children enjoyed it, and we even had ice cream. The hotel's swimming pool wasn't large, but it was very clean, and I swam there for two consecutive days. Yingze Park is right next door, and you can enter and exit with your room card. In the mornings, my child and I fed the fish and went for a run, experiencing the leisurely lifestyle of Taiyuan residents. It's also not far from Liuxiang Food Street, but we didn't walk there due to the rain, so we'll save that for next time. Overall, highly recommended!

I specially rushed to travel during the off-peak period after the Spring Festival to take the dog out for fun. After booking the room, I added WeChat with the landlady. She thoughtfully sent us the navigation location and a long route to get there. She also helped us book a drama to see Pingyao again. We called her the day before departure. I also contacted the hotel. I felt it was very reliable before going. They arranged to pick us up on the day. Because we were not familiar with it, we needed someone to guide us. However, the location of the inn is very close to the navigation gate and it is very dog-friendly! Very considerate. You can adjust the temperature of the central air conditioner in the room. It is hygienic and clean. The location of the accommodation is very close to South Street and relatively quiet. Because there are not many guests traveling during off-peak hours, we were upgraded to a room type for free. We got a sticker and drew the location. , independent wifi in the room, free access to mineral water, the store staff is really nice! The dog friends who recommended it to me hope that they will all come and check in with their dogs, haha! Almost everything I asked for was answered. Before I left, I said that there was really no need to send us away. It was very close, but the boss lady still asked us to send us away in the scenic spot car. I hope the business is prosperous and the store is caring!
