"The room was clean. Towels at the pools were plentiful. Only 2 concerns, I requested early check in but was allowed to check in at 4pm. We arrived in the room about 4.05pm and as we were unpacking a housekeeper just walked in stating that he didnt know that we had arrived and he was bringing a toaster. It was alarming that he walked in without knocking."

"We enjoyed our stay at The Colonies overall. Our condo was clean, the grounds were well maintained and every staff member we interacted with was lovely and welcoming. My biggest concern was the pool. Our welcome packet said guests needed bracelets and towels had to be checked out, but there was no access control at all. When we asked for bracelets, the front desk staff waved us on. All of the gates were wide open and there was no way to verify who was actually staying at the resort. The pool was extremely crowded and chaotic without all of the seats being taken up, so I can’t imagine what that would be like and I think having a lifeguard or several more staff members present would help keep it safer and more family-friendly. As a mom, the lack of controlled access made me especially uneasy. Any child could easily slip in or out of the pool area. We also had a very loud neighbor who had their door propped open while cooking fried fish, so the smell came into our condo all night. There was also a lot of yelling and door slamming until after midnight. I never brought this to the front desk because at that hour, I didn’t feel there was much they could realistically do without making it obvious which neighbor complained, so we just dealt with it. We are very laid-back, easygoing people and don’t typically have many complaints, but unfortunately, we found this stay to be anything but relaxing. Between the pool situation, inconsiderate neighbors and the noise, I’m honestly not sure we would stay here again. The staff themselves were wonderful; these were simply issues with the overall experience."

The state of Virginia has been inhabited and visited by nature lovers for thousands of years, and was chosen by British colonizers in the 1700s for its vast supply of natural resources and access to ports and waterways. Many of the towns dotted along the Blue Ridge Mountains served as major hubs for colonizers, including the grand city of Roanoke just west of the mountains in southwestern Virginia near the West Virginia border. The Best Western Plus Inn at Valley View is situated just off Central Virginias Interstate 581 in this serene setting, offering guests southern hospitality, unbeatable amenities, and an ideal location - just one mile from the airport. Step inside our property to take in the cozy, charming ambiance and you’ll find a large, indoor saltwater pool with a pretty, outdoor deck for soaking up some sun. Each of our rooms features vintage styling paired with cozy details like grand window treatments, leather easy chairs, and ottomans, plus modern conveniences like HBO, microwaves, refrigerators, and large vanities. Start your morning right with a visit to our inviting fitness center, and then indulge in deluxe complimentary breakfast featuring Belgian waffles, donuts, fruit, and eggs. Business travelers will appreciate our handy business center, on-site conference room, and grab-and-go breakfast, while road trippers can take advantage of our Motorcycle Rider-Friendly amenities. Whether you’re just passing through or staying a while, you’ll love being within walking distance to dozens of restaurants, including fast casual dining at the Valley View Mall, plus fine seafood and steak restaurants. "The staff was very friendly and professional. Room was clean. Check in was easly and quick. There was a soccer team staying at the hotel. They got a little noisy, as well as some kids running in the halls one night. The staff asked them to quiet it down both times. Never stayed in a hotel where that was done. Quietest hotel I have ever stayed in. Breakfast was you typical continental. The staff made sure the area was kept clean and food was available. Mentioned to the front desk the bathroom sink had a drip. She felt bad I didn't mention earlier. Was really not big deal. Location was perfect. Close to the airport. Would definitely recommend."

Just passing through on the way South. Went to service desk, they were extremely polite and courteous, so kudos for that. Then they hit me woth the price tag of $159 for the night. ”NO WAY” is all I thought, so I went online and found a booking here on Trip.com for $102. I jumped on it. I was tired, hot, and a little aggravated from the trip, so the price on Trip.com was a relief. I started looking around and thats when I realized that the amenities all cost. They had complimetary coffee, so YaY! Got up to the room, it was clean. Unloaded for the night, and it was finally showertime! I do my thing, get into the shower, which was a handicapped shower. It had a chair and a detachable showerhead for those hard to reach places. Well, this is where the problems started. This showerhead was supposed to be able to be locked into position on the pole provided, you k ow, for people that can stand. Well, the damn thing didnt lock. Nope, it stayed at crotch level, and so I was forced to use the detachable showerhead. Whatever, a shower is a shower, and boy, this shower was GREAT! Then, after my shower, I discovered that they must have wanted me to take a bath afterwards. This is because the entire bathroom floor was flooded from my shower water, and the floor was definitely not graded towards the drain, so to clean it up, one would either need a wet/dry shop-vac or a squeegee, and wouldnt you know it, I left both of mine back North, hundreds of miles away! I ended up using the towels to basically squeegee the water to the drain and get the floor cleaned up. I wasnt aware they kept their guests on the housekeeping payroll! My partner was unable to shower cause it would have caused another mess. So, besides the fact that if they could have charged for tap water and air, they would have, and the pool waiting for me after my shower, I had a really good stay. The bed was so comfortable I had trouble getting out of it in the morning, and the complimentary coffee turned out to be fresh. The staff understood my concerns and were extremely friendly about providing their information for when I contacted trip.com for my refund. 6.5/10

Checked in really late (around midnite but they held my room. I called ahead to let them know I'd be flying in late. Conveniently located on one of the major arteries, which incidentally conveniently ends at the US Coast Guard Training Center. I attended my son's training graduation but his checkout went long - probably because their NCO missed them and didn't want them to leave....so I ended up checking out of the hotel much later than the standard checkout time (11am - I checked out just after 1pm) - but because it was USCG related - they waived the late fee - which was greatly appreciated. The entrance was easy to park (it was raining) and checkin was really simple once we confirmed my reservation. The breakfast nook was directly opposite the checkin counter which made things easier for later that morning (included breakfast). The elevator hallway had a machine which dispensed junk food and sodas - but you need physical cash to use them. Elevator made for deja vu as it's a standard Radisson layout. The room was clean - no weird smells and quite large and spacious with a receiving room (sofa and tv) hot water pot for coffee tea etc. The bathroom was well stocked with towels but the body wash was weirdly located next to the bathroom sink instead of the shower - that was strange. Hand soap was nice and sizable (useful as a body wash, given the fixed location of the body wash next to the sink). The bed was huge (king?) with plenty of pillows and bedding (sheets blankets etc). The room was quite warm which was nice since it was cold and wintery and wet outside. Staff were all very very nice and welcoming and polite. All in all - most excellent experience from checkin to checkout. But it's the staff which make the experience smooth and enjoyable.

Holiday Inn NATIONAL AIRPORT/CRYSTAL CITY by IHG

Stayed at Holiday Inn National Airport / Crystal City during my Washington DC trip and had a genuinely great experience. The location is a big plus — very convenient for Reagan National Airport and easy access into central DC. Getting around was straightforward, whether by Metro or quick Uber rides. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Nothing overly fancy, but exactly what you want after a long day of sightseeing — a reliable, quiet place to rest. Housekeeping was consistent and everything felt well looked after. Service stood out the most. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay, from check-in to daily interactions. Small touches like offering breakfast vouchers and being responsive made a difference. Breakfast itself was solid — good variety and a convenient way to start the day without needing to head out immediately. Overall, this hotel offers excellent value for money in the DC area. It’s not a luxury stay, but it delivers very well on comfort, convenience, and service. I’d definitely stay here again for a future visit.

In pics and in person the modern fresh room style is appealing though the functionality is sub-par. An example: one night table was a solid piece, no drawer or shelf with the top diameter much smaller than my laptop. Typically, a phone (use as an alarm), a bottle of water and an iPad , e-reader or book/magazine would be on a nightstand. Whoops, no room for all that and the slick surface made me nervous to leave my iPad on it. The open closet is fine, especially for me as I don't hang or put clothes in a drawer, but the only space available that wasn't in the bathroom is directly below where one would hang their clothes and right above the fridge. This could make it a perfect spot for a soft sided cooler, but this relatively small space (didn't measure, maybe 14”x20” with Keurig-style coffee maker already on it) is where one might set snacks, extra sodas, the cereal one brings because they like to eat the same thing every day and need a spot to set their cereal bowl while grabbing milk out of fridge right below. Not sure about you, but I'm not terribly comfortable putting food & dishes in the bathroom. Unfortunately, that is where my coffee maker needed to go (if I'm remembering correctly) the outlets where not accessible so Mr. Nespresso did need to go in the bathroom. Bathroom shower had some mold around the caulk area, otherwise serviceable. Not a horrible room overall, but not as nice as other similarly priced nearby chains so I'll stick to those.

Not impressed at all. We had the King room and there was barely any room to walk around the bed. If you want a room and have the need for some type of privacy from anyone that would be in the room with you then this is not what you want ! No chest with drawers, no nightstand per say, and if you like to have a tub for children to bathe them in again this is not the place for you. Definitely won’t be staying here again. The only positive is the room and lobby was clean.
