Incredible stay! Contrary to some negative reviews about the hotel's cleanliness, we actually found a beautiful hotel perfectly located near shops (directly opposite a mini-supermarket and the city center). The room was spotless, as were all the hotel's facilities. And the staff were incredibly kind ✨ We were lucky enough to stay during Carnival 🎭
The location provided isn't very accurate compared to its actual spot. The pools are 'boxed in' by the buildings and are smaller than they appear in photos. The front desk person who checked us in was very kind; we asked for a recommendation and it was spot on.
However, there aren't enough reception staff to handle the large number of guests checking in and out. We really disliked the system for contacting reception; there's no direct phone line, the switchboard just forwards calls, but no one answers... after trying for 4 days before our arrival, it was impossible to get through.
We have wanted to stay at AxelBeach for a while. People told us it's just an expensive old hotel, but because of the name it stays busy. Well, unfortunately that is the case. The rooms look like they haven't been updated for 50 years. The TV is old and the wires behind it were frayed so badly it didn't have a signal. And the mattresses are so thin and uncomfortable I woke up yesterday with pain shooting down my lower back and legs. There's no excuse for cheap pillows and mattresses if you're going to charge this much. And we had a suite!
It's like they're happy taking the *** $ but not meeting our expectations with that money. Other places to stay are much nicer. But on a positive note, the staff are absolutely incredible. They were always so friendly and helpful. I just wish that we had a better experience with the rooms.
We stayed for 6 nights in an apartment with a large bedroom, a spacious living room, two bathrooms (one with a tub, one with a shower), a fully equipped open kitchen, and a large sea-view balcony.
Pros:
First, my immediate impression upon check-in was how incredibly clean it was. Although the overall facilities here are a bit dated, every corner of the room was spotless and very tidy. The dishcloths and rags were brand new, and the trash cans were pristine. Cutlery, various cooking pots, a refrigerator, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, oven, and microwave were all provided. Plus, there's a supermarket right below the front desk, so cooking for ourselves was very convenient.
Second, the front desk service was excellent. The whole hotel had a wonderful atmosphere, including the pool and the rooftop cafe. There were also plenty of sofas, tables, and chairs where you could sit or recline. The public areas were very spacious and clean, and there were many activities available. The ambiance was truly great.
Third, you could book various tours directly opposite the hotel's front desk, and communication in English was seamless.
Cons:
When I went to sleep at night, I smelled a strong musty odor. I searched high and low for a long time but couldn't find anything moldy, even under the bed. The next night, the strong musty smell was still there, and I finally realized it was coming from the decorative panels of the bedroom furniture, which all had a very heavy musty smell. I removed all the dresser drawers and nightstand drawers and put them out on the balcony to air out, but the headboard panels couldn't be removed, and the strong musty smell persisted. I contacted the front desk, and they immediately sent a repairman to the room. After a quick look, he told me they'd be back in 'five minutes,' and then... nothing. He never returned.
They have a WhatsApp customer service, with different staff members on duty each day. When a new staff member asked how everything was, I mentioned that yesterday's repairman said he'd be back in 5 minutes but hadn't returned in over a day. The customer service agent apologized but said they had no vacant rooms. I told them I had already moved to sleep on the sofa. Mold can seriously affect one's health, especially for families with children, and I hope they address this. Then another customer service agent took over, and nothing was resolved; the issue was just left hanging.
Every time I inquired, they responded with a very good attitude, but no one actually solved the problem.
Honestly, they only need to replace the moldy decorative furniture panels with ordinary wooden ones; it's not a difficult task.
This is a really nice resort, with a nice lobby and amenities. It's also right by the ocean, and the dining room has a great view overlooking it as well. The breakfast was really top notch and delicious, with a lot of fresh fruits and food varieties. Sadly, the location is a bit inaccessible and not that close to either of the airports on the island.
Stunning hotel overlooking the coast and San Sebastian. Traditional decor throughout. Very nice pool area with plenty of sunbeds available (unsure if this would be the case in peak season, if there is one on La Gomera). No pool bar however.
We did have an issue of building work next to our room during our stay but it didn't really affect us.
Not an issue for us but the hotel is about 65m above sea level meaning that there is an 10-15 min uphill walk back to the hotel from the town.
Modern, elegant, and very well-located hotel. The room was great and very clean. The only thing I regretted was that the pool was closed. The views from the rooftop are well worth it.

GGuest UserSanta Catalina Hotel is undeniably a historic architectural landmark, but as a hotel experience it fell well below expectations. On arrival, the service felt cold and somewhat pretentious rather than welcoming, with concierge staff coming across as detached and pompous rather than genuinely hospitable.
A key reason for choosing the hotel was the prominently advertised rooftop pool and views, only to discover after check-in that access is restricted to suite guests. The spa is similarly limited unless you pay €15 per person for 90 minutes, which feels disproportionate given the modest facilities. These restrictions are not clearly communicated at booking and leave a sense of being misled.
Several of the lounge and communal areas were also frequently reserved for corporate events and seminars, which further diminished the sense of a relaxed hotel environment. As a guest, it often felt as though you were secondary to business groups and functions moving through the space, even in more personal hotel moments such as walking through common areas in a robe.
In-room entertainment is very dated, with a non–smart TV offering only basic local and satellite channels. Room service carries a €5 delivery surcharge, while on-site dining is largely limited to high-end fine dining with little casual alternative.
It is also worth noting that Las Palmas sits under a noticeably less favourable microclimate than the south and west of Gran Canaria. During our stay, conditions were consistently cloudy, windy, and cool, which further limited the enjoyment of the hotel’s already restricted amenities. For those seeking reliable sun and beach weather, the southern or western parts of the island are a better choice.
Overall, despite its striking heritage setting, the combination of underwhelming service, restricted access to advertised facilities, dated in-room amenities, corporate use of guest spaces, and disappointing weather made for a stay that did not feel justified by the price and is not somewhere we would return to. The atmosphere and clientele also skew noticeably toward an older demographic.
GGuest UserWe had a nice clean appartement which was very spacious. The bed is really good, very soft and we slept like babies. Bathroom was nothing special but clean which is the most important thing. Breakfast is a bit on the expensive side. (8,- for 2 small orange juice). The staff was friendly. We would’ve liked to stay longer but unfortunately it was fully booked. The only downside was the 100,- borg that has to be payed with creditcard as we didn’t have one but we got the appartement anyway. I recommended this place to others if they’re looking to relaxed without the screams from tourists.
If you read this as a tourist please keep this beautiful island clean and show your respect. (We walked around with an empty bag picking up trash along the road)
GGuest UserLovely hotel at a very good location. Modern, nicely decorated for Christmas. Polite staff, good choice for breakfast and dinner. Christmas dinner was something out of this world( been to many hotels, but Xmas dinner now will be hard to match). Not sure if it is always like this but we were the youngest in the hotel(43&47)during the first part of holidays and only later some other younger people joined us. The average age was 60's 😁 This hotel is not orientated to children but for us it was perfect- no screaming and shouting and our girl had fun in the pool by
Herself and her cousin🤣 I wanted to book Spring Hotel Bitacora at first but now I am thinking that I made an excellent choice . That said, I might try it out next time just because of the All nclusive service Bitacora provides. It was a nice quiet stay so if you expect something like Turkey, eith music around the pool, kids disco and shows, this hotel is not for you. We were half board and 4 days we ate at the pool bar and were never disappointed. Good food and reasonable prices. We didn't book UP option because we were with the kids( it's for 18+)but if I ever come without them- I will try it out!
Pros:
Very good location
Modern hotel
Heated pools( wheelchair friendly)
Good food and service
Cons:
No shampoo in a room! It's a first for me 🙈
The tiles in the pool (mosaic) need replacement. My daughter filled probably half of the carrier bag from the bottom saw of the pool🤣
All in all- perfect stay and believe me, I am picky. It is one of the hotels I would recommend to my friends and family
HHUIHUAVery suitable for parent-child vacation, the hotel has arranged a lot of programs from morning to night. The design details of the hotel are super beautiful and ubiquitous, perfect African style. There are 9 swimming pools, you can definitely find the place you want to lie down and relax. There is a long row of shopping festivals and small restaurants at the entrance of the hotel. The Tujiu restaurant is the most authentic and delicious. The Chinese boss behind the scenes is super enthusiastic about us every time we eat After sending a large glass of wine, take a 7-minute taxi ride from the center of the dunes
GGuest UserWe had a mixed experience during our stay.
At first, we were assigned to D block (room D104), which was extremely noisy due to a nearby bar, and there was also a toilet issue with continuous running water. We were unable to sleep at all that night, despite having requested a quiet room well in advance.
After communicating with the hotel, they eventually changed our room for free, which we appreciate. The new room was in I block, and the difference was huge — the room was much newer, very spacious, comfortable, and almost completely quiet. The facilities were clearly more updated, and overall the stay improved significantly.
The only issue in the new room was that we found one large cockroach, which was unpleasant, but aside from that, everything was fine.
I would also like to highlight that the front desk staff were polite and helpful, which is definitely a big plus.
Overall, if you are planning to stay here, I would strongly recommend avoiding D block, especially if you care about noise and sleep quality. If noise does not bother you, it may not be an issue — but for light sleepers, this is something to be aware of.
GGuest UserIdeally located in quiet part close to old town as well as the *****. Two pool areas (one with shallow kids pool) and food available by larger pool -also small dining area just past reception (good selection for breakfast).
Pool table for older kids and small playground for toddlers onsite.
Very clean complex and friendly staff. Fully equipped kitchenette and lovely powerful shower in bathroom which I loved!
Close to lots of shops and restaurants, but relatively steep stroll downhill to beach, fine for us but could be a workout with buggy or if any mobility issues. There was on street parking outside if hiring a car. Lots of taxis around if not! We enjoyed exploring the local areas on foot after a day of sightseeing…some great restaurants close by in the old town.
No air con in the apartment that we could see (but we didn’t ask either as we stated at end January so 24 Celsius and pleasant indoors and out) - recommend checking if going at peak times.
Pools weren’t heated but nice for a dip- clean and lifeguards on duty at both between 9:30 and 6pm.
Relaxing short break at lovely complex, we’ll be back!
GGuest UserThe accommodation needs updating and needs TLC until they get round to it. It is very clean, staff are friendly and happy to help. where we had fridge and kettle need to have double plug, they was quick and gave me a extension lead to use both together. it a shame bar inside not opened as we had windy nights and we was sat pool bar with patio heaters on which i didnt do.
Lovely that in your accommodation you are told about put your towels down around the pool, that they get removed if not being used so no blocking sunbeds.
could do with some paperwork for you to keep on your visit on what time you choice for meals and also what time snacks available on the all inclusive.
It a lovely touch that you get a towel for you to use at the pool i not been to hotel that gives you them..
Food is good for a 3star only thing would be a problem in higher season is only 1 toaster in dining room.
I full enjoyed my stay here. I would stay here again..
YOU ALL SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELF XX
I know people have put about road outside but the hotel can not be held responsible for this as it down to council..
Sschere riveraWe are repeaters of this apartment, we love and what more your close workers careful and friendly, make you feel like at home, we always advise you :) the only stick that would wear is that there are few shadows and hams to the number of customers who has the apartments.
GGuest UserThe room was spacious, had comfy large bed. The housekeeping service in the room was surprisingly great and fast, unbothering at all. The room’s view was as ordered on Teide (unfortunately we enjoyed it only 2 last days).
There was a big pool with many free sun loungers, the water was not hot, but we could swim. The amenities were exceptional: as they offered not only in-house trainings, games and night shows, but also outdoor trips to the nearby cities. The night shows included authentic cultural music and dances — was very fascinating.
The staff was very helpful and friendly not on the reception, but at the bar and attractions. The breakfast menu was various and there was a cook who cooked fresh omelets by request, the restaurant was very spacious and full of light.
The weather was unfortunately not great during the stay, but the hotel and its inner life has fully compensated. In good weather you can actually come and stay the whole day just at the hotel — as there is everything you need for relaxing. We would stay more and will come for sure next time!
