I’m a frequent traveller. I have been staying in a wide range of accommodations/lodging from 1 to 5 ⭐ in many countries. I can assure you that I have a more wonderful experience staying in a hostel in Europe than in Park Royal Penang Resort. What’s more disappointing is that I experienced this in my own country.
Made 2 separate bookings (different dates on different sites) and I took my time to contact them much earlier to get them to combine my bookings. They replied me and assured that they were duly noted, will do the necessary to make sure a smooth check-in process for me. On the day of checking in, I once again informed the staff that i have contacted them, first thing when she greeted me. Thought she checked it in their system but she didn’t inform me that she just checked me in for only one day - that I have to go down to the counter again the next day to recheck in. Luckily, i noticed it just 30mins before 12pm on the second day itself.
Their staff double standards treatment towards us guests was too obvious by the way they greet us local (at least me & my mom) and foreign tourists.
Room standard was just mediocre and did not even reach the level of a 3star hotel hygiene & cleanliness in Thailand. A hotel lobby didn’t even smells like a hotel lobby.
Checkout experience- no one of their staff cared to ask if we needed assistance, because they were busy assisting a group of foreign guests loading their bags into the van.
Overall, i came to ParkRoyal Penang with the highest hope to experience the best stay with my family and i left deeply disappointed.
We booked two vacations in a row, one of which had a bathroom, which was very convenient and large. It was on the second floor. The service staff was very nice and helped us change rooms. There were a lot of monkeys in the mountains, which were very cute. It was clean and hygienic. The other foreign guests were also very polite, harmonious, and very well-mannered. It's a little far from Fisherman's Wharf, but the food there tastes especially good.
Surprised by how clean it was despite being an old hotel in the area. I am overall satisfied with the hotel and my room, especially the cleanliness of the toilet and tub area. If I have to be really fussy and pin point a thing I did not like, it would be that the blanket is slightly thinner than I would normally prefer a hotel blanket to me. However, this is just my very fussy side speaking. Overall, I would give this hotel a 4.9 out of 5.
I had booked a room with breakfast during my two days there for a workshop. Both days are somewhat the same, food was decent. The workshop provided lunch which led me to again dining in the lunch buffet section, overall it was pleasant. I like it that the hotel provided a variety of Penang food over the two days. My fav was the rojak which I took a photo here haha! Hub enjoyed the pool and hot & cold pool (sadly the sauna was under maintenance).
Before I checked out, I also happened to be part of the Penang heritage launch ceremony. So, I got to see some of the really beautiful art work and nyonya clothing items on sale at the pop up stalls at the lobby too. The hotel also was serving nutmeg juice and Penang famous snack 豆沙饼.
I must mention too, that I got a sea view room which allowed me to see the extension project by MBPP. There was a very happening and lovely park opposite the hotel just minutes walk away. I couldn’t help to bring myself over and was really happy to experience the joy of the families enjoying the facilities there. Huge slide, lots of climbing equipment and a very decent skatepark! Running track was very nice too! You must check it out if you’re in Penang!
It was overall a pleasant stay in all.
As a returning guest of this hotel, I was a bit disappointed with the minor shortcomings that I felt shouldn't have happened. Firstly, the shower bracket couldn't hold the shower head for long and I was worried it would fall and hit my head while showering. In addition, the shower water flow was also quite disappointing because the water flow in the bidet and sink was fast and seemed normal. Secondly, the air conditioning was funny. I don't know what was wrong, but the temperature was still at 24.5-25 degrees Celsius even though I tried to lower it several times to 16, but it still returned to 24.5-25, which caused the room temperature to be quite warm and sometimes hot. Thirdly, the two fans in the gym were very dirty and dusty, plus the ventilation in the gym was poor. I really hope that this hotel, especially the maintenance department, can check and improve anything that should be done, both in the room and in the gym. Anyway, the front desk and restaurant staff were friendly and polite as usual. Congratulations and thank you for your services.
We had a lovely 2 night stay here. The views from the room was incredible. The room itself was clean but could have been better - the mattress was very hard, the hot water was almost non-existent and the shower head was barely working.
Breakfast was a pretty standard hotel buffet. Food was good but a little lacking in variety. Note that the restaurant is over 2 levels so not very accessible-friendly.
Had a decent stay at Hompton Hotel. The highlight was definitely the stunning sea view — waking up to the sound of waves was a lovely experience. The room was comfortable enough, but cleanliness could be improved for a better overall experience. Still, a pleasant choice if you’re looking to stay close to the beach.
Always my prefer hotel whenever i go Penang. However the location is far away from street food so usually we will walk around city area & eat dinner only return to hotel as it's far from city area. Love this place because of the quiet and peaceful location & the hotel has a private beach side. It's kids friendly too as they have a kids pool area as well as kids clib room area. The room is spacious & the bed is facing seaview. Their breakfast buffet is amazing....lots of variety & delicious. Staff are all friendly too. Highly recommended.
The hotel is located at the beach front and near to the main road. It is accessible to town and Gurney. There is a food court in a walking distance which you can find all the local dishes there, such as satay, peanut pancakes, bak kut teh, prawn noodles, curry noodles, Indian Apom balik etc. The hotel room is spacious and neat . It provides organic herbal body wash, hair shampoo, hair conditioner and hand liquids . The gym has nice see view. There is a beach pub where you have drink there. The swimming pool is kids friendly and there is a kids club where they can play at there. This hotel suits young kids and teens . We will come back again for the sixth time.
The hotel rooms is ok & nice. The air conditioner is cold . Nice sea view from the room balcony. Parking is free provided by the hotel but limited. Staffs hotel friendly and helpful. The breakfast just ok. Deposit rm100 when you check in at the hotel.
this hotel is good overall, but when we arrived, they told us that we didn't have a booking with them and they couldn't locate our booking and details. the room was also said to be taken, and they are waiting for a cancellation in order to get our room. There is a lot of confusion among staff. some visitors were told to leave their rooms once they have entered. we waiting 1 hr 30 min to get our room. so check in was at 4.30pm. parking was also very inconvenient, as we had to park at the basement, which was impossible to even get one if you came into the hotel late and a T&G card was also needed to get validated before leaving the hotel if we wanted a free spot. Room was very spacious and clean. the tea and coffee was hard like its never been changed.

GGuest UserThe pools are great. The kids love them. Just don’t bring or order food at pools, or the crows will never leave you alone.
The room we booked was very spacious. Perfect for family. From trip.com, it mentioned we might get a 3m extra large bed. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. It’s a 1.8m king sized bed.
A lot of different food at breakfast. But it’s quite crowded after 9.

MMUN WAIGood swimming pools, kids can play all day there!
The room is a bit dated though, functionally all fine.
The resort is in a good location, good food and even with free shuttle bus to the George Town.
Will consider to come again!
AamychowkwMy last stay at Ascott Gurney Penang was in Oct 2024. I travelled with a girlfriend and it was my first time staying. The experience was fantastic (the room view, the service provided, the cleanliness of the room, the pool and gym facilities etc) thus, this time I brought back my family and my in-laws to stay again (3 rooms).
Was slightly disappointed this time.
1. The rooms assigned this time were not great, all low floors and the views were restricted (my last stay the room view was superb!)
2. There were lots of birds in the swimming pool area and I think the hotel should do something about it. There were droppings on the floor around the pool and after swimming for a short while, I felt uncomfortable as I could see something floating in the pool as well so I left….
3. On the 2nd day morning, servicing staff promptly made up my room but not on the 3nd day morning. I was out between 10am to 1pm and was surprised to see that the room was not cleaned. I had to personally go down to the front desk to make the request to clean up…
But overall, the service was still good, staff were courteous and helpful in general.
I recommended Ascott Gurney to my husband this time, but he was quite disappointed with Ascott Gurney Penang, especially with reasons listed above and still prefer The George Penang where we stayed in end 2023 instead.
LLeeAlways my first choice in Batu Feringghi!
Stayed here 5–6 years ago and came back again — everything still looks the same, which feels familiar and welcoming. Guest relations service is good, and the pool is nice and well maintained.
The only downside was the free welcome drink redemption — went to the café but there was no staff around, so I had to wait quite a while for someone to appear. But honestly, that’s just a small matter compared to the overall experience.
Still a lovely stay and I’d happily return!

AAnonymous UserExcellent stay. Gorgeous room offers privacy and fantastic sea views. Buffet breakfast with a good spread and best of all the staff was attentive and friendly. Efficient service throughout and the beautiful grounds were well maintained. A little dated but still a 5 star rating. A special mention for a special staff, Ms Revathy. Courteous, knowledgeable, helpful and genuine.
