I chose this hotel for my trip to Takayama. It used to be the Wing Hotel Hida Takayama, but now it's called Koko.
**Cleanliness:** The hotel has high-legged beds, and there was dust underneath, which personally bothered me.
**Facilities:** The hotel parking requires advance reservation and has two areas: one directly under the hotel and another 500m away at a different establishment. The price is 500 yen per night. There aren't enough spaces at the hotel, so if you reserve late, you have to walk a long way to get your car, which is quite inconvenient. Additionally, the washing machines and dryers are located inside the communal hot spring bathhouse, and on the men's side, there's only one washer and one dryer, which is really too few. You often have to wait in line.
**Environment:** The location is quite peaceful, about 1km from Takayama Station.
**Service:** Overall good, but not outstanding.
Excellent location, right by the Takayama train station. Hotel was new with clean facilities, breakfast was really yummy. Room was reasonably sized and clean with a washer dryer. While there was no gym, the onsen facilities at the hotel were spacious and new. Outdoor onsen experience was amazing while looking at the snow outside.
The hotel was really lovely! The service was amazing, and the staff were really kind and thoughtful. There's plenty of free drinks and snacks around (coffee/tea/yakult, ice cream, fermented rice drink, ramen) that you can take at set time periods. You can also rent yukatas for free.
The dinner and breakfast were amazing and extremely filling. The staff also took time to explain the individual dishes to us! Highly recommend that you book in advance, because there aren't many food options around the hotel.
The onsen (private/public) is also open for really long hours, so we could go late at night or early in the morning.
The hotel isn't too close to the main Shirakawago village, but they offer a shuttle service to and from the village. Do check the schedule in advance in order not to miss the bus!
The hotel is a bit out of the way, about a 2000 JPY taxi ride from Gifu city center.
The rooms are spacious, with large bathrooms, walk-in closets, and big beds. Although a bit old, it's clean and suitable for families.
Service was just okay; we had to go to the front desk ourselves to get an extra bottle of water.
Since we were just transiting through Gifu, we only stayed for one night. I wouldn't recommend it for travelers looking for convenient access to explore Gifu.
I really love Takayama; I've been coming here for three consecutive winter holidays, and it's even more beautiful when it snows. Before, I always stayed near Takayama Station, but this time, since I wasn't planning on visiting the old town or morning market, I chose this hotel with more of a resort feel.
The environment is nice, and getting around is actually quite convenient with a scheduled shuttle bus. Taxis to the arcade and supermarket aren't far either.
I tried both the buffet and the kaiseki dinner, and both were very good. The hot springs were also great. The hotel is quite large for the area, so it has all the amenities, and the price is reasonable. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time I come to Takayama.
We are here for their onsen (can opt for private or public) and because of its strategic location from the train station and bus station. There are alot of food options within short walking distance, around 10-15 min walk to reach miyagawa river and enjoy their morning market. The hotel provides odens and new year noodle because we spent new year during our stays. They put extra care for kids amenities with a cute slippers and handkerchief. We enjoy our stay in Takayam
Exceptional accommodation and service!
My husband and I purely enjoyed our time at Yunoshimakan. We had a room with private open air bath because of my tattoos (so public bath wasn’t an option), and it was 100% worth its price.
Kaiseki dinner was excellent, the buildings are adorable, we couldn’t wish a better service.
Before coming, I thought that more than 1 day at onsen is waste of time — and totally regret the hadn’t made a choice to stay for a longer time.
My advice: order a taxi or ask for a transfer if you carry a suitcase. I am really sorry for my husband who needed to carry our luggage 300m upstairs.
Affordable, comfortable and clean This hotel is located in the city center, affordable, comfortable and clean. The room is small but warmly decorated, making people feel at home. The service staff is friendly and enthusiastic to answer guests' questions. There are many special snacks and attractions around.
The quality of the hotel is very high. It's conveniently located near the train station and a 15 minute walk to the old town. The spa is really nice, clean, and spacious. The family spa is a nice touch. Rooms are very large, comfortable beds, with a tub. The only drawback is breakfast. The restaurant is too small to accommodate guests. It's odd that it's common in Japan to have large hotels, with many guests, include breakfast, and then build a tiny restaurant. Makes no sense. Options are limited and food is the same every day. I wouldn't recommend it, but there's so few options nearby or in the town in general, that you basically have to eat there. Just go before 8 AM. Otherwise, the hotel is really nice.
The hotel room is spacious, cleanliness is good. Though the staff are young, they are very cheerful and helpful. First time experience to leave the shoes in the lobby locker, quite happy that the whole area is free from dust as no one can wear shoes inside. There has 3 free car parks around the hotel area for you to choose. Good location for visiting Magome-juku. Has a bundle of restaurants nearby with a nice cafe eating traditional toast. All toiletries are available at the lobby area. Worth to stay again.

Amazing
GGuest UserThe hotel's location is excellent, right across from Takayama Station, just a straight walk from the convenience store. It's fully equipped, and you can pick up toiletries on the first floor. The environment is comfortable, and the service is attentive. Breakfast is rich and varied, and there are free desserts in the evening. I've already recommended it to friends who are planning to visit. I loved it so much, I even extended my stay by another night! 😄

AAllblue1772The facilities have a more European-American style, simple, clean, and brightly colored. There's an outdoor onsen, which, though not huge, is perfectly fine when it's not too crowded. The lounge is also nice, a great spot to rest your feet when it's really cold.
Transportation: Extremely convenient. It's only a ten-minute walk to the station, even with luggage, which is incredibly important. You can reach Takayama Jinya and Hie Shrine within 25 minutes.
Surrounding Amenities: There's a large 7-Eleven convenience store just a ten-minute walk away. And right downstairs is the best Hida beef restaurant in Takayama – it was so easy to grab a ticket early.
Cleanliness: Decent, didn't look dirty.
Service: I have to give a special shout-out to the front desk staff – they spoke the best English of any hotel we encountered on our Nagoya trip. Communication was so smooth and pleasant. My wife forgot her onsen password, and the front desk quickly resolved it. I can't imagine how cold it would have been if the front desk didn't speak English and she had to go down in her onsen attire on such a chilly day.
QQianjun1969The location is fantastic, just a ten-minute walk from both the train and bus stations. The breakfast was delicious, and the hotel's hot spring bath was incredibly relaxing, with free Yakult available.

11360260****My friends and I were looking for an affordable onsen hotel, which is why we chose Gero Yamagataya Onsen Hotel. First, let's talk about the pros: the price is quite reasonable for an onsen hotel, and the rooms are clean and tidy. Now for the cons: the service is a far cry from what you'd expect at a traditional Japanese onsen hotel. When we arrived at Gero Station, we saw staff from Suimeikan and Yunoshimakan holding signs to pick up guests, but after searching everywhere, there was no one from Yamagataya. We ended up waiting for 10-20 minutes and had to take a taxi to the hotel. Although it wasn't far, we didn't have to pay the taxi fare as the hotel covered it upon arrival. However, no one at the hotel entrance offered to help us with our luggage. Furthermore, the breakfast and dinner were the worst I've ever had at an onsen hotel in Japan. Breakfast felt like a staff cafeteria, with no milk or coffee even. I really regret not choosing Suimeikan or Yunoshimakan Onsen Hotel instead.

GGuest UserThis is the best onsen hotel we’ve stayed in, among those we’ve stayed in for the past 12 years! We stayed here for 2 nights.
We’ve extremely grateful to the hosts for their outstanding service and hospitality from the heart. Loved the thoughtfully varied menu for each meal.
The establishment is spotlessly clean and excellently maintained. Each morning, our towels and yukata (hotel gowns) were replaced. So were the amenities ( fragrant green tea packs, snacks). The housekeeping staff even offered to mop our rooms after only one night’s stay.
The wifi was also fast and sustained well in the guest room and public lounge areas. There are facilities to cater to a wide range of age groups from seniors like us and children too. There were ample resting chairs in the lounge and on the way to the historian’s well as guest rooms.
The best facility was the hot springs! They are
exactly as depicted in the hotel website. Numerous indoor pools of various temperature all have the renowned ‘beautifying’ odorless alkaline water. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized after only one soak.
What’s more the hot springs stay open for in-house guests from 10.30 am to 11 pm and day-trip visitors from 10.30 am to 8 pm. In-house guests can also use the hotsprings early from 6 to 9 am. There is a European dry sauna as well as wet steam rooms in both make and female hotspring areas.
We would love to stay here again!
