"Overall, I had a really nice stay at this hotel. The highlight for me was definitely the view. I had a room overlooking the ocean, and waking up to that scenery every day was absolutely beautiful. The room itself was lovely as well clean, well-maintained, comfortable, and furnished to a high standard.
The location is great in many ways, but there is one thing worth mentioning. The hotel is right next to a train station, which unfortunately can be quite noisy. I’m a light sleeper, and I often woke up when trains arrived, especially late at night or early in the morning because of the warning sounds. I ended up using white noise to help me sleep. If you're only staying for a night or two, it probably won't bother you much, but for a longer stay it may be something to consider.
I didn't get a chance to use the facilities, but I did have a look at the rooftop bar and swimming pool, and both looked fantastic with amazing views.
The breakfast was probably the weakest part of my experience. I only had it once and then decided to explore some of the nearby cafés instead. Honestly, I enjoyed those much more, and it was a nice way to discover the area.
As for the service, the staff were always polite and helpful, but they seemed quite stretched. Whenever I called for assistance, it usually took around 30 to 40 minutes, and sometimes I had to follow up. That said, it wasn't something that really upset me or took away from the overall experience.
Despite a few minor drawbacks, I genuinely enjoyed my stay. The beautiful room, stunning ocean views, and overall atmosphere made it a memorable experience."

"I booked this hotel online two months in advance (February 2026). Upon arrival on May 5, 2026, at 4:00 PM, I provided my valid ID. My wife did not have a physical ID with her. Nowhere in the hotel’s published policy does it state that every guest must present a physical ID.
Instead of helping, the front desk staff were shockingly rude. They created a scene and treated us like criminals. Our first impression of what was meant to be a 3-day stay was ruined before it even began. It was clear they had no intention of resolving this minor issue professionally. Their handling of the situation was absolutely horrible.
With great difficulty, my wife was able to get a copy of her ID via WhatsApp. If not, the consequences would have been unthinkable—even though we had fully complied with all documented hotel policies and had paid in full two months earlier.
I was deeply disappointed and disgusted by the front desk staff. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful welcome.
That said, the room service was excellent. That is the only reason I am giving a good rating instead of a lower rating."

"We recently stayed at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo with my family. Overall, the hotel experience was good, especially the location and service. However, the rooms feel overly traditional and colonial, which does not fully meet modern-day requirements. The heavy wooden furniture and old-fashioned, posh décor may appeal to older patrons who appreciate classic heritage styles, but it may not suit travelers looking for a more contemporary stay. The electrical points and facilities are also quite outdated and not convenient for today’s laptop- and gadget-dependent travelers. I would suggest that the hotel consider modernizing some rooms and amenities, while still preserving a few heritage-style rooms for guests who prefer the traditional experiences."

"The hotel is close to the sea, but buildings block the view, so you can't really see it. It's very close to the mini-train along the coast, and there are supermarkets and malls nearby, which is quite convenient. I arrived two hours early, and they allowed me to check in ahead of time. While I waited, they even offered me a glass of juice. Surprisingly, they didn't charge me the extra $3+ that I was supposed to pay on-site (I reminded the staff, but after checking, they told me it wasn't necessary). I booked a two-meal package, both buffets. The dinner selection seemed less extensive than breakfast, perhaps because fewer people booked it. A bit of a mix-up happened because I wasn't told the dining times, so I went for dinner before 7 PM. The restaurant was completely empty. Later, I saw on a screen that dinner apparently starts at 7 PM, but the staff member just let me in without explanation – which honestly gave me a very good feeling about their service. The room was spacious, and the type I booked surprisingly had two beds pushed together to form a super-king size. The soundproofing with the next room was pretty good; the people next door were playing music from check-in until after 10 PM, but I could only hear a faint sound once the street quieted down. That's acceptable. Sometimes the street noise was quite noticeable, but my tolerance for ambient street noise is higher than my tolerance for noise from neighboring rooms. The pool is on the top floor, and so is the restaurant. As an introvert, I'm not a big fan of this design. Overall, the stay was quite comfortable and offered excellent value for money."

Good breakfast - variety of dishes, local and international, but slightly overpriced. Nice pool, didn't check the gym. Bed is comfortable. Room temperature can be regulated.
Somewhat slow check in process, but they offer tamarind juice on arrival.
Didn't try coconut at the bar, you can buy them outside for 150 LKR !

"One of the more affordable hotels, but for me a very good one in a great location. The staff was very friendly—truly exceptionally nice. The rooms were clean and cozy, and the breakfast was very good. There was nothing to complain about, and I would definitely come back.
Especially worth mentioning are the manager, who personally takes care of guests and explains the important things in the room, and the “breakfast chef,” who even opened breakfast earlier than scheduled while I was waiting. Thank you—I really felt well taken care of as a guest."

IIan LagacLocation is great, just beside One Galle Face Mall. Plenty of restaurants and cafes around. Beautiful sunset views (from the bar, pool, restaurant, lobby) and Galle Face opposite the road. Rooms are gorgeous and spacious.
Checked in Dec 30-Jan 2 peak season. Hotel was fully booked. Waited in the lobby for my room to be ready upon check-in. Front desk said they will find me to let me know. Waited for more than an hour before I asked them again and told me that my room has been ready.
Ordered some room service which took more than an hour to be delivered. Granted they told me that it may take about 50 minutes because it was peak hours. Upon delivery they told me it was comped because of the long wait.
Pool, restaurant, and bar staff are all great. Very personable and accommodating.
Loved the sky pool on the 31st floor. No bar but not as crowded as the main pool.
Breakfast was great. A lot of choices. Asian selection is great. Pastries not so much, some didn’t seem fresh. Heard from some staff that it gets super busy from around 9 but didn’t experience any long wait. Plenty of tables to accommodate people.
Overall a great experience and will definitely stay here again if I’m in Colombo.

CCJ12A beautiful building in a very pleasant area of Colombo; the architecture and interior design of the hotel are a joy to behold and the vast majority of staff are polite and courteous. Plenty of amenities nearby to suit all tastes and interests. The breakfasts were great both mornings (both the Sri Lankan breakfast and the Western style), and they really lived up to the high expectations we’d had from the Instagram marketing we’d seen.
We were upgraded to the North West Suite, which was a larger room, for which we were greatly appreciative; a couple of issues with working plugs and appliances (coffee machine and hair dryer) were reported and rectified, although the wiring/plugs more broadly were temperamental and poorly placed (as expected, possibly, with the charm of an older hotel). However, the bed was comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and the bathroom was well appointed.
Our only qualm was with the overzealous Head of Housekeeping, who seemed to not grasp the subtlety required for such a role, or the privacy with which guests might like to enjoy the beautiful hotel. It appeared that he lingered all too often in search of a tip, and didn’t quite appreciate the boundaries one might desire when paying a reasonable fee for each night. My wife and I took to speedily locking the door and placing the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the handle to keep his incessant interrupting to a minimum. His deputy was, however, an asset to the hotel, who seemed to comprehend the subtle art of providing high quality service for a luxury stay in a lovely hotel.
All-in-all, a great choice for a hotel in the heart of Colombo, and hopefully, during a busier season, the aforementioned Head of Housekeeping might spread his overbearing attention across the many rooms of the hotel.

The staff are really friendly, helpful and there is always someone around if you need anything. I had a wonderful massage at the spa as well, which really added to the luxury experience. Breakfast was extremely diverse, and a server was eager to make local Sri Lankan recommendations which I really appreciated. However, the layout of the place is a little difficult, so be prepared to use a few different elevators to get around

From the very first moment, you sense its special atmosphere—a place with history, character, and its own unique atmosphere. The ocean view is simply incredible, one of those that stays in your memory for a long time.
