"I chose the newly opened Amari Hotel (Amari Colombo) for my first two nights in Colombo, drawn by its reputation for sea views. The sea view from the room and the rooftop infinity pool were huge plusses, and the service was good, but there were quite a few flaws. I stayed in a Deluxe Sea View King Room on the 16th floor. The room's large floor-to-ceiling windows directly faced the sea, offering a great view and easy sunset watching. Unfortunately, the popular Grabbell Hotel partially obstructed the view to the left, making the angle for admiring the sea from bed not ideal. The room itself was very new, but the design had numerous illogical aspects: ① The 'king' bed was actually two single beds pushed together, with a gap in the middle, making it very uncomfortable to sleep on. ② The bathroom wasn't a 'three-fixture separation' (toilet, shower, sink in separate areas), and opening the bathroom door completely blocked the toilet, leading to poor circulation and accessibility. ③ After the main light switch was turned off for a period, the power outlets also shut off, preventing phone charging. If the main switch wasn't turned off, some lights couldn't be switched off individually. ④ The curtains required pulling cords on both sides to operate, and there was no corresponding instruction in the room. I only discovered this after struggling to pull the curtains for a long time. I was quite surprised to find such design flaws in a hotel that had been open for two years. The hotel service attitude was generally good. Checking in at 1:30 AM, the concierge was still on duty, helping with luggage from the car and later delivering it to the room. The front desk staff were also very friendly, and I didn't experience any discrimination. The rooftop infinity pool on the 26th floor also directly faces the sea. The pool isn't large or deep, but it's sufficient for leisure. There's also a bar by the pool, offering panoramic views of most of Colombo, with particularly stunning scenery at dusk. Breakfast, located on the 5th floor, featured strong local characteristics, with an array of various curries spread across the buffet. Opinions were sharply divided; my wife loved it, while I couldn't get used to it at all. Overall, to fully enjoy this hotel, you need to book a sea-view room and comfortably watch the sunset from your room or the rooftop pool. Otherwise, it's just a slightly flawed, but generally acceptable, four-star hotel."

"The hotel facilities are great, but the atmosphere was a bit tense. Overall, the hotel itself is good; the rooms and service are all up to par. However, this experience felt a bit strange. We arrived in the middle of the night, and as soon as we entered the hotel, there were two layers of security checks: first, military personnel with sniffer dogs, and then the hotel's own security. Honestly, this kind of setup made me feel a bit tense and unable to relax. I was looking forward to the sea view when I woke up, but the weather wasn't great that day; neither the sky nor the sea were very blue. The advantage of the large floor-to-ceiling windows wasn't really utilized, which was a bit disappointing. After leaving the hotel, the street outside was full of tuk-tuks, emitting a strong diesel smell. It instantly pulled me from the vacation vibe back to reality. 😑"

"Although I checked in late and missed the sunset, the location was fantastic. I stayed in a Signature Plus Seaview Twin Room this time. The amenities were plentiful, and the shower pressure was excellent, making for a very comfortable stay. The breakfast was also delicious. However, I recommend dining indoors for breakfast. On the terrace, birds (crows) were eyeing the food. While the staff were constantly vigilant, some guests still had their food snatched when the staff weren't looking. The adjoining shopping center isn't particularly large, but it's perfect for a post-meal stroll or to kill a bit of time. The main reason I chose this hotel was definitely the infinity pool! Since it was the rainy season, I took advantage of breaks in the weather to use it, and it was truly amazing. I wish I could have stayed for two or more nights to enjoy it more leisurely. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay, and I would love to stay at this hotel again."

"The breakfast was great, and the service was excellent. The views are fantastic, and the pool is massive! The sea view is stunning, and it's definitely an Instagrammable spot. There's even a museum and a lot of very old buildings. It's really excellent, I highly recommend staying here."

"We had a lovely stay at this hotel overall. The private beach is beautiful and peaceful, making it a perfect place to relax. The pool area is also great, very clean and well maintained. Breakfast each morning was delicious with plenty of options to choose from. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had strong AC, which made a big difference in the heat. The staff were very kind and welcoming throughout our stay. One thing to note is that we didn’t receive responses regarding booking tours through the hotel, even after following up. I would recommend arranging any tours or activities in advance to avoid inconvenience. Overall, we enjoyed our time here and appreciated the relaxing atmosphere."

"The hotel room offers a direct view of the seaside train, and there are convenient amenities within walking distance such as supermarkets and restaurants. It's quite convenient. As soon as you enter downstairs, all the staff are enthusiastic about helping you with your bags and with security checks. I also noticed that flight crews from Emirates or Qatar Airways stay at this hotel. The window seats in the breakfast area have a perfect view of the seaside train passing by, so the location and view are excellent. Thanks to the hotel, we have a wonderful memory of our trip to Sri Lanka."

"Location is great, just beside One Galle Face Mall. Plenty of restaurants and cafes around. Beautiful sunset views (from the bar, pool, restaurant, lobby) and Galle Face opposite the road. Rooms are gorgeous and spacious. Checked in Dec 30-Jan 2 peak season. Hotel was fully booked. Waited in the lobby for my room to be ready upon check-in. Front desk said they will find me to let me know. Waited for more than an hour before I asked them again and told me that my room has been ready. Ordered some room service which took more than an hour to be delivered. Granted they told me that it may take about 50 minutes because it was peak hours. Upon delivery they told me it was comped because of the long wait. Pool, restaurant, and bar staff are all great. Very personable and accommodating. Loved the sky pool on the 31st floor. No bar but not as crowded as the main pool. Breakfast was great. A lot of choices. Asian selection is great. Pastries not so much, some didn’t seem fresh. Heard from some staff that it gets super busy from around 9 but didn’t experience any long wait. Plenty of tables to accommodate people. Overall a great experience and will definitely stay here again if I’m in Colombo."

"I recently stayed at the Ramada by Wyndham Colombo, and overall it was a wonderful experience. The room was extremely spacious, honestly one of the largest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in within Colombo. Everything was very clean and well maintained, and the amenities were excellent. The room included everything you might need—tea and coffee facilities, toiletries, toothbrushes, and more. The bed was very large and comfortable, and the TV, office table was huge as well. All the facilities such as the lights, air conditioning, and fan worked perfectly, so we had no issues at all. Our room was on the 8th floor (top floor) and we had a nice view overlooking the Galle Face Hotel with a small view of the ocean. The location of the hotel is also excellent since it is very close to Galle Face Green and many other attractions in Colombo, which makes it very convenient for travelers. The check-in process was smooth, and they welcomed us with a refreshing welcome drink. One thing to note is that the security procedure is quite strict. When we had guests visiting our room briefly, they had to provide their IDs and go through a security check. It was the first time I experienced this in a hotel, but it is understandable since it helps maintain safety. Although we booked bed and breakfast, we later asked if we could add the dinner buffet, but unfortunately it was already full. However, something very kind happened later that night. My mother wanted chicken congee, so we asked the room service staff if it was available. Even though it was not on the menu at that moment, they were kind enough to prepare and send us a bowl of chicken congee. It was a very thoughtful gesture, and we truly appreciated their kindness. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a very wide variety of food, and everything we tried was delicious. My family has always liked the buffets at Ramada, and this time was no different. They also had live cooking stations, and the staff there were very friendly and welcoming. Overall, everything about the stay was great. The room, service, location, and food were all excellent. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel. It is absolutely worth the price and offers great value for money."

"Let me start with a few downsides: for a five-star hotel, there was no liquid hand soap, only bar soap. The toiletries were also very basic, small plastic bottles. We had to specifically ask for bathrobes and the low-quality disposable toothbrushes. The soundproofing was terrible; every time someone knocked on the opposite door, I felt like they were knocking on ours. The good points are: we were given two bottles of cinnamon drink upon arrival, the pool is beautiful, and the gym is decent. Apparently, haircuts are free, though I didn't try it, and there's a sauna too. We paid an average of over 600, and the taxes were quite high, so the value for money wasn't great in comparison. Oh, and the service was quite slow; we had to wait 10-20 minutes even for toothbrushes."

"Overall pleasant stay at Cinnamon that I'd totally recommend to anyone and stay again myself. A comfortable bed, nicely sized room, beautiful property, convenient location, such friendly staff and a wonderful breakfast are just some basic memorable facts about our stay for 3 nights. The bakery downstairs, Plates restaurant, and the mall next door just add on to the comfort of the stay at Cinnamon Grand. To top it all off, we upgraded our stay to the executive floor, and accessed the lounge to enjoy a variety of mouth-watering snacks (that changed everyday) and took 2 free laundry/day offering. It couldn't get any better!"
