"This hotel's location is super convenient, right in the heart of the Tenmonkan area, with the tram stop directly in front. It's walking distance to the bustling downtown and plenty of restaurants, so exploring and dining out was a breeze. The hotel and rooms felt new and clean, making for a very comfortable stay. The artificial carbonated hot spring in the public bath was fantastic for soothing away travel fatigue. I especially enjoyed the breakfast on the top floor, with amazing views of Sakurajima while savoring dishes made with local ingredients. The staff were also very attentive and polite. Overall, I'd say this is a highly satisfying hotel."

"A truly distinguished experience. It feels like royalty once graced these halls. The reception staff exude the professionalism of the Imperial Hotel, and the hotel itself is luxurious and well-maintained. We chose it because of the shuttle bus from the bus terminal opposite JR Station, which made sightseeing very convenient. The onsen doesn't require reservations, and while photos aren't allowed inside, there's a designated viewing platform for pictures. Areas for improvement: Housekeeping needs better training. The person who cleaned my room that day really needs to improve. The cleaning quality was equivalent to a 3-star hotel in China or below, the worst I've encountered in Japan, a shame given the excellent facilities. The housekeeping service was below a 2-star level in China. The water bottle in my room had clearly been used by the previous guest, with about two-thirds remaining, meaning it definitely hadn't been replaced. I always travel with my own sleeping bag and water, so I didn't want to bring it up with the front desk to avoid any awkwardness."

"I've always preferred staying near JR stations for their convenience. Due to the heavy rain, I couldn't take the Kirishima train, so I opted for a day trip to Kagoshima instead. However, the surprise that morning was an earthquake – I was on the 8th floor and it shook me awake. The hotel was worth the price, but checking out at 10 am was really tough. I was woken up by a phone call to come downstairs to check out… I need to be more careful next time."

The Dormy Inn Kagoshima provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. Visitors to Kagoshima will find that the Dormy Inn Kagoshima is a fantastic accommodation choice. With Kagoshimachuo Station just 1km away and Kagoshima Airport only 40km away, transportation is very convenient. This hotel is located near many of Kagoshima's attractions including Terukuni Shrine, Kajiyamachinomori Park and Hirata Park. After a long day of sightseeing, guests can retire to the comfort of the hotel. This Kagoshima hotel features parking on site. If you demand a high level of service, our guests have indicated that this hotel has excellent standards. This hotel is particularly popular with those traveling alone.

"I often travel to Japan, and Dormy Inn rooms always seem to be in high demand. The 20+ sqm twin rooms, perfect for two adults and one child, are usually impossible to book. So, when I saw this room type available in Kagoshima, I decided to book it for one night. Overall, my experience fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, neither adult could enjoy the onsen (hot springs) for personal reasons, which is arguably the hotel's main highlight – a real shame. The room itself was a bit small, and while cleanliness was decent, the toilet emitted a persistent garlic-like odor. On the positive side, the dining options were excellent. Breakfast featured Kagoshima's special black pork shabu-shabu and a type of sashimi. Complimentary ice cream and Yakult were available all day in the lounge on the hot spring floor, and free soy sauce ramen was served after 9:30 PM. Given these amenities, I'd say it's best suited for adults who plan to fully utilize the onsen facilities. What truly made the stay less than ideal wasn't just my inability to use the onsen. More significantly, during check-in, the front desk informed me that my reservation did not include a 3-year-old child, resulting in an additional charge for the child's accommodation and meals. This wasn't the hotel's fault, and honestly, I'm not sure who to blame. I distinctly remember booking for two adults and one child, so I'm puzzled about what went wrong in the process. Perhaps Dormy Inn and I simply weren't a good match this time. I'm well aware that Japanese hotels charge per person, so I always meticulously enter the correct number of guests and compare prices across different platforms when booking in Japan. Having visited Japan over a dozen times, this was the first instance where I was charged extra at check-in due to a discrepancy in the number of guests. I was quite surprised when informed about the booking error. Checking my Trip.com confirmation on my phone at the front desk, I saw it indeed only listed two adults. I can only fault myself for never reviewing the confirmation after booking; moving forward, I'll be sure to check them carefully to catch and correct any issues promptly. After reporting this to Trip.com customer service, they responded quickly and later reimbursed me half of the additional cost. During this trip, both hotels I booked through Trip.com had unexpected additional charges at check-in. Besides the Dormy Inn incident, another hotel in Fukuoka charged a separate accommodation tax. Interestingly, I booked a different hotel in Fukuoka on another platform, and its price already included this tax, so I didn't pay anything extra upon arrival. Moving forward, when booking hotels in Japan, I'll have to carefully consider if the lowest price offered on certain platforms might be due to hidden fees."

Guests tell us the location of this hotel is fantastic. For guests traveling with families, this hotel is consistently one of the most popular choices.

"I booked this hotel on Trip.com for my summer trip to Japan, and my stay was excellent! Self check-in is available from 3 PM. The hotel boasts a convenient location and pleasant surroundings, though its facade is quite unassuming and easy to miss. Our connecting family rooms (two rooms) weren't particularly spacious but were clean and well-equipped, featuring an air purifier and an LG clothes dryer. Guests can also enjoy a public bath on the 12th floor. Located just 1.4 km from Kagoshima-Chuo Station, the area around the hotel offers a plethora of unique dinner options, such as the famous 'Wagaiebi' izakaya, specialty soba noodle shops, and a wide array of other local delicacies. Furthermore, drugstores, bakeries, and supermarkets are all conveniently accessible. While summer prices tend to be a bit higher, the hotel offers very reasonable rates during off-peak seasons."

11387****The hotel's breakfast was excellent, and the hot springs were incredibly relaxing. The room was spacious, the lobby was beautiful, and the service was outstanding. HHoshLet's start with the pros. This hotel is basically joined to the JR Kyushu Shinkasen / Kagoshimachuo station which is joined to the AMU Plaza shopping mall and it also has a tram stop right outside the mall (Kagoshima-chuo eki mae tram stop). So in terms of location I think this hotel ticks all the boxes. The lady at the front counter who was checking me was very friendly, however, we both had to use a translator to communicate 😂 . I believe that is it for the pros. Moving on to the cons. This hotel is starting to show its age (and not in a good way). The room was small, the bathroom is vintage, it felt dewy and it gave me an allergy attack. The 3 gripes I had: 1) The fix AC near the ceiling was blowing directly onto the bed which was really uncomfortable. I believe this contributed to my allergy flare-up. 2) The bed and the pillow was not very comfortable. I did not sleep well for the couple of nights. Or it could've just been the AC. 3) The hotel didn't offer any bottled waters. I would rather they take away the cheap plastic toothbrush and comb and offer the bottled waters instead.

OOlga TarAmazing hotel, truly. Conveniently located near the airport shuttle stop and tram stop. All the combini nearby, lots of restaurants and cafes. It is situated at the corner of the arcade quarters, so it is very comfortable to walk almost anywhere under the roof that protects you from both sun and rain. Walking distance from ferry to Sakurajima and toppy/rocket port to Tanegashima and Yakushima (sadly, no arcades on that stretch of distance). The rooms are nice and clean, with comfortable beds and pillows, amenities are amazing (bath salts and coffee drips even!). The service is top-notch! They even provided a shoe drying machine and helped us on several occasions. Probably best value for money in Kagoshima if you're looking for an affordable but comfortable stay.

SShin-Woei FannThis hotel locates a liitle bit away from the Kagoshima hot zone but close to the Ferry Port toward the Sakurajima. There is also a supermarket across the street full of general groceries and foods, where you can see a lot of local people shopping inside. It seems all of the LiveMax hotel room has no chair with back. The cost is pretty worth of it compared to most of hotels in the same level.

GGuest UserEven though this is an old hotel and it shows in its facilities and overall design, the service and amenities you get as a solo traveller is worth thw price you pay for an overnight stay. The room is clean albeit small but sufficient. Some points to take note if you're planning to book: This is close to the central station so it's juat a block away from major shopping and transport options. The hotel closes its front desk and doors at 11 pm to 7 am. Checkin before 11 pm. Going in and out of the hotel at that time is possible if you use your key card to open the front doors. Walls are thin and it's very possible that you would hear your neighbor. There's free coffee and drinks at the lobby.

ZZheyanIt's about a 20-minute walk from Kagoshima Chuo Station. The Takamibaba tram stop is right in front of the bath. The large public bath is great. There aren't many washing areas, so I don't know when it gets busy, but I didn't have to wait long. The breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of food. It was a buffet of Japanese, Western and Chinese food. I would have preferred if there were more desserts. It was a shame that there was no cereal. The yogurt was delicious. It never gets full, but as rumored, there is quite a long queue from 6:30. The staff are not bad at all. It felt like they were doing the bare minimum.

GGuest UserPros: The hotel locates near the west exit of Kagoshima Central Station. It takes less than 3 minutes walk to get there from the station. However it would take 8-10 minutes walk to reach the airport bus terminal which is close to the east gate of the station. Space of a double room is satisfactory and average in Japan. Cons: Breakfast is very simple so we just ignore the breakfast on the the third day. No USB sockets in the room. One should not expect much facilities and services with reference to the price.

Pphtan68Very good hotel and we got a good deal to stay. The male staff from front desk explained to us on all the nitty gritty, in a typical Japanese polite way. Onsen is at 4 floors and it is typical Japanese Onsen. There are washing and drying facilities on the 4th floor which is budget friendly, where we wash our laundry. The hotel however is away from the town center which might be inconvenient for some travellers that wan to walk around.

二黃What a surprisingly wonderful old ryokan! Operating for a century, its interior boasts a rich Showa-era charm. It definitely feels historic but is spotlessly clean. The true highlight was breakfast, which unexpectedly featured pork shabu-shabu. The broth was made with genuine, high-quality ingredients, and the yuzu kosho was locally sourced. Paired with the black pork, it was absolutely delicious! 😋

KK Hoffman (Canada)It was too far away from Kagoshima-chuo Railway station to walk. Have to take the bus. First city in Japan that I could not use my SUICA card on the buses. Make sure you got small change. However, it's only about 10 minutes walk to the Tenmonkan Street, the shopping/eating area in Kagoshima. Nice kitchen if you want to do your own cooking. There is a vending machine on the 4th floor with beer and vodka on the rocks. Also, there are 2 laundry machines and dryers - one set on the third floor and the other on the rooftop. The rooftop had a gas dryer which is much better at drying clothes.
