"I booked a lake-view room, but at first, the front desk gave me a garden-view room with only a tiny glimpse of the lake on the left. After some discussion, they finally switched my room. Later, after my bath, I noticed that several rooms with better views were just getting occupied, so it really shows you have to advocate for yourself. After the room change, the scenery was fantastic, directly facing Mount Fuji, absolutely stunning. The breakfast selection was also rich. The only downside is that transportation is a bit inconvenient; there aren't many shuttle buses, and public transport services are limited."

"AMAZING hotel. We booked two nights here towards the end of our two weeks trip and it was the best decision ever! Hotel was very clean and cozy. Staff were very attentive and kind. We could only book this room as this was the only available room at the time of my booking. I'd preferred a different room. But to my surprise I LOVED the room. The view of the mountain and autumn leaves were amazing. Even my husband who couldn't care less about nature and view in general fell in love. He soaked in the hot spring tub 3 times an hour for several hours! We both loved it. We could grab a dvd in the lobby to watch. I grabbed harry potter second and third movies to watch. How relaxing. Dinner and breakfast were delicious! And shuttle service to Kowakidani train station were a huge convenience! Would love to come back and book a different type of room in the future!"

"Hakone Hotel Kowakien, a natural onsen hotel offering dinner and breakfast that I'd rate 90 out of 100. It's not easy to impress me in Hakone, the famed hot spring town in Kanagawa Prefecture, but this hotel truly excelled across all criteria, showing a consistently high standard. Both the front desk and restaurant staff were attractive, with fluent English and standard accents; notably, they didn't employ any Southeast Asian staff. The hotel facilities are relatively new and well-designed, and the cleanliness is exceptional. The public areas offer plenty of sofa seating, and the temperature control is precise, allowing guests to comfortably wander around in traditional yukata without feeling cold. The air is fresh with no strong artificial scents, embodying a 'Natural and Pure' concept. The restaurant, named Fontainebleau, lives up to its name with authentic French pastries. The 'all-you-can-eat' style still maintains high-quality ingredients, and there's an unlimited supply of Sapporo Asahi draft beer and Gekkeikan sake. What's more, the self-service alcohol bar is also open during breakfast, which seems quite common for Japanese guests – their physical resilience certainly differs from ours! Observing Japanese dining concepts, you'll notice several characteristics: a wide variety of dishes, comprehensive nutrition, low-temperature preservation, minimal oil and seasoning, and avoiding high-temperature cooking to prevent nutrient loss. The sauna is also quite professional, featuring a 12-minute sand timer, anti-scald mats, humidity and temperature displays, and powerful heating elements that ensure you won't waste any time. Whether you prefer mountain views, garden vistas, or indoor hot springs, there's an option for everyone. "Absolutely love this place! The staff are very friendly, and the onsen is clean and well-maintained. There are 3 outdoor pools and 2 indoor pools, along with a steam room and sauna, which make for a relaxing experience. The facility is open for both day trips and overnight stays, but staying overnight is much better for a more chill and leisurely time. There’s a massage chair available, but it requires payment. Breakfast is also delicious and definitely worth it. The only downside is the location—it’s not very convenient and requires some walking. If you’re traveling light, it’s manageable. They do have a payable shuttle bus, but the timing isn’t great. Walking can be pleasant if the weather’s nice, or you can opt for a taxi. Overall, I’ll definitely book this place again for the relaxing atmosphere!"

"Lovely place we stayed at! It was perfect for our family of 4! There was a nice footbath. There is a toilet for anyone wondering and 4 western style single/twin size beds. The place was decorated well and we loved the style of it! We're really sad we didn't get to stay longer. There is a major hill in front of the hotel but it wasn't a problem since we got a taxi. Though they are a bit hard to come by. The facilities were lovely, we enjoyed the Onsen and the massage chairs. Dinner was also delicious and breakfast was continental style."

They even offer free ramen in the evenings, though the serving time is quite short, so make sure to check the schedule. Parking at the hotel was very convenient. I heard the room rates are usually quite high, but I booked it on Ctrip for just over 1400."

"This charming inn is a hidden gem nestled in the forest, just a stone's throw from the Hakone Garasu no Mori Museum. Surrounded by nature, it was a true luxury to experience both the peaceful ambiance at night and the refreshing morning views. I arrived a bit late and unfortunately missed the welcome drink, but it sounds like guests who check in earlier can enjoy it. A thoughtful touch was the complimentary coffee and tea available for guests at the cafe, perfect for a little break. The hot springs were wonderfully relaxing, and the in-room amenities were all thoughtfully chosen and stylish. Every small detail made me feel incredibly glad I chose this place, ensuring a truly relaxing stay. The breakfast buffet was absolutely captivating, with so many delicious options it was hard to choose! There was an impressive array of dishes, many of which aren't typically found in everyday meals, making it easy to overindulge. It definitely set a happy tone for the whole day. From my room window, I had a beautiful view of the autumn leaves, which were absolutely stunning. I'd love to visit again in autumn to enjoy the seasonal scenery."

"Great place to stay in tranquil beautiful surroundings and if you're lucky a view of Mt Fuji. Was easy to get to (bus J from Odawara station (expected 50 minutes but took over an hour due to traffic jams near ropeway late morning time).. Short easy 5 minute walk from bus stop to hotel (ignore other reviews). We had a Japanese style room for two. Plenty of space and great view of Fuji from the room. The bathrooms are clean and perfectly fine but a bit dated. However not a problem. The onsen experience felt very traditional and really enjoyed it. I'm vegetarian and there were quite a few options in the buffet (breakfast and dinner) which was appreciated . When we left we used the great hotel shuttle to drop us at Minami Onsenso where we picked up the T bus to take us back to Odawara train station (about 50 minutes around 10am). The staff at hotel were super helpful and overall it was a great, relaxing stay."

"Was feeling bump about the reviews. However I must say the station have shuttle service that’s 200 yen per person. It was convenient and easy to travel. Hotel amenities was great too. The in-room onsen was perfect and room amenities provided was hair dryer, hair straightener, hair curler etc that’s really great. Dinner spread was great. Breakfast was okay."
