"Overall the stay is pleasant. It is a very unique experience bathing outside the room and its cold during spring. 🤣 The hotel provide a lot of free snacks, coffee and food according to time slot. The private onsen was nice. However, I would seriously recommend the hotel to gradually change the bed as it already sunken due to age. Will I go back? Probably no, as bathing outside though is an experience, not really suitable for us. Dont let this be a deterent to whoever is going to stay there. It maybe your preference 😆. If you staying there, make sure visit Coffee Camp. Their coffee is the best coffee I had during my trip to Tokyo. Tips: There is shortcut from Gora station to cafe."

"My main reason for choosing Hotel Indigo was the expectation that a foreign hotel would offer more diverse food options than traditional Japanese cuisine, and that the rooms would be more modern. Both expectations were met, which was great. However, the hotel's location is quite remote, making it difficult to walk to Gora Station. Thankfully, the hotel provides a shuttle service to the station from 10 AM to 6 PM. If you plan to take the shuttle to Odawara, remember to book it in advance at the front desk. There's also an unsightly warehouse-like structure next to the hotel, which is a bit of a letdown considering how secluded the location already is – it really spoils the view. Around 90% of the guests here seem to be Western tourists, likely in groups, as the breakfast area was almost full before 8 AM. For dinner, we decided to eat near Gora Station and had some excellent unagi (eel) rice. A taxi back to the hotel cost us 700 yen. For first-time visitors to Hakone, I'd recommend staying in Hakone-Yumoto instead, as it's livelier, offers more dining choices, and has more convenient transportation. Also, the hotel's public bath is mixed-gender, requiring you to bring your own swimwear or borrow special attire from the front desk, which I found a bit inconvenient, so I didn't end up using it."

"Located a 10-minute walk from Yumoto Station, the hotel room was spacious. What I liked most was the Japanese-style table and chairs set up in addition to the bed, perfect for enjoying snacks and tea. The room itself had been renovated, although the door was a bit worn. The basement onsen (hot spring) was quite nice. Hotels in Hakone are generally very expensive, so this one was reasonably priced – not cheap, but not expensive either. Overall, I was satisfied. However, the cleaning service was rather slow. They only asked for daily towel changes and trash can emptying, and when I returned around 6 PM, the cleaning still hadn't been done."

"Overall, my trip to Hakone was quite good. The hotel's location is excellent, and the Hakone Freepass was definitely worth it. However, the room facilities felt a bit cheap, and the strict check-in and check-out times were a bit disappointing. The onsen was nice, but not very large, it couldn't compare to one I visited previously at Jigokudani. The breakfast and dinner tasted great, but unfortunately, breakfast service ended a bit too early."

"Our experience staying in Hakone was perfect! We stayed at the Tensein in Hakone-Yumoto, an easy location to take the bus, car or train to some popular tourist attractions in the area. The check in itself was rather slow but the staff do their best to speak good English and discuss every detail about your stay with you. The room had everything we needed, the shampoo and conditioners provided was wonderful and there was a variety of products to use. On check in, the private onsen was given at 50% discount at 1,100 Japanese yen per use, we got 2 vouchers so used it 2 times (as we have tattoos we could not go into the public onsen). On check in you have to collect your towel and your choice of Yukata (traditional Japanese robe) which you’re welcomed and encouraged to wear around the hotel and gardens. The hotel is strictly no shoes, so upon arrival you leave your shoes in a locked box and keep the key. If you wish to walk around the beautiful gardens, there are slider type shoes available to slip on, as well as umbrellas to use if it’s raining. Outside they have a onsen for your feet to enjoy with a drink. All of the food and drink (apart from breakfast which was included) was put on our bill at the end. There was a wide selection of drinks, nibbles and food available for dinner and lunches at the dining room and there was a large buffet dining room for buffet breakfast and dinner (if you booked it). The hotel is just a short 10 minute walk to the town and 15 minute walk to the Hakone-Yumoto station. Visiting Mt Fuji is easy, with a bus ‘H’ running from stand 2 opposite the Hakone -Yumoto station. Get off at ‘Motohakone’. From there, you can take another bus and a train to get you to another town ‘Gora’ and surrounding attractions to enjoy."

"We arrived by public bus, so it was relatively convenient, but the hotel's shuttle service wasn't very well-organized. Dinner was a bit different from what we expected, leaning more towards Western tastes, while breakfast was a rich buffet. The only minor flaw was that the stopper for the private hot spring drain tended to get stuck. The river sound was quite loud, possibly due to it being flood season. However, once we closed the balcony door at night, it was perfectly quiet. Thank you for the honeymoon gift, we were very happy about it."
