"The hotel is near Brignole Station, but I wouldn't recommend walking outside after dark.
The hotel itself is in a creepy building, and you must take the elevator (very small and very creepy) to the reception.
The room was nothing like the pictures. It was nice and smelled bad (not sure of what, I didn't want to find out).
I was only there for 6 hours, as I was travelling further for the weekend and then back to Genoa. I didn't/wouldn't go back to that hotel."

"Albergo Astro is extremelly well located, in the 5th floor of an old glamorous building close to the train station and to the center of Genova. The personnel speaks italian, but can easily understand travellers that only scratch a bit of italian. I had the feeling as if I was staying in the house of a big family. The place is very clean, and room is clean everyday. Good place to stay for the price."

"The hotel I stayed at on the first day of my visit to Genoa from Nice.. I barely found it on Google Maps because it was in a maze, but nearby restaurants, vintage shops, marts, etc. were all right next to it, so it was very convenient.. The room was clean and comfortable because of the remodeling.. The front desk staff was friendly.. It seems a bit dangerous if you just go around too late in the evening.. Have a good trip."

"It is necessary to put 1 star for the service, because almost sat down trying to get to the hotel and absolutely do not understand the motivation of the administrator. The house is very specifically located between the hill, the hotel is on the fifth floor of the house, the entrance to the house is on the first floor and on the sixth floor on the back side (up the staircase), the navigator will surely lead you to the first floor (which is logical), There you will even see a button with the name of the hotel, but by pressing it you will not get the answer. Thanks to the joyful sequel of circumstances, two ladies came in, we walked in, climbed up to the 5th floor, and there was a code lock. To learn the code - you need to settle to settle - you need to know the code. Closed circle. I did not work in Italy by the Russian operator of communication, I didn't have the opportunity to call, thank God the husband remained 4% charging and he called on the door number, sorry only that nobody answered. And here we were lucky again and the door opened the family couple, thanks to which we finally got inside the hotel, where on the table already waited for an enquiry with my name and the keys to the door. After 10 minutes, the administrator called back and sent the instructions on how to get to the hotel, thank you, very in time. I believe that in such hotels - self-service it is necessary to send instructions in advance on the fact of booking, not on the fact of arrival, as travelers from the road may banally not have charge on the phone/internet/mobile communication.
As for the hotel itself or more correctly to say the hostel - an amazing house with a parade atrium, which after passing all the original quests is admired, a clean cozy room, Very early departure (in my opinion until 10 a.m.) and phenomenal hearing, we in the room spoke whispering. I would stop here again because I have already solved all the mysteries of the settlement, but for an older, poorly speaking foreign language, or without a person's means of communication - it is very irrespective."

Hôtes d’une gentillesse incroyable.pour une nuit c’est très bien sanitaires propres,chambre propre et il y a le nécessaire pour passer une bonne nuit. Juste nous avions pris une suite familiale,mes enfants ont dormi sur un lit pliant qui grince à chaque mouvement.climatisation très appréciée. Il n’y a pas de parking à l’hôtel mais celui recommandé est très bien juste un peu cher.(25€ la nuit)

The hotel is not far from the train station but the road is very difficult to walk. There are small alleys everywhere in the old city, and there are many dangerous buildings on both sides. The small hotel is considered a homestay and the conditions are very poor. The facilities are old and aging and some have been broken. Make do for two days. Because I care about the convenience of travel, I can bear it. At night, many black people around, and I am still afraid. Not recommended to live here. The reception is still very warm. There is no elevator to carry your luggage up and down the narrow stairs.

We stayed at the hotel for one night and then moved.
Pros: location, spacious room, free coffee.
Cons: very hot, no air conditioning, only a fan; small common area; the hotel is very old; strange manager - always yelling; but what was the cherry on the cake: when we came to get our bags, he said that we should leave the hotel immediately, because we were breaking the safety rules and disturbing other guests, we were creating a threat to them. ))) funny))

Guest UserIk ben een soloreiziger en was in eerste instantie erg positief over dit hotel. De locatie was goed, de andere medewerkers waren vriendelijk en bij het inchecken kreeg ik zelfs een upgrade naar een vierpersoonskamer voor €15 minder. Daarom vind ik het extra jammer dat één medewerker tijdens de nachtdienst mijn hele verblijf volledig heeft overschaduwd.
Bij het uitchecken vertelde een medewerkster mij via een vertaalapp dat ik mijn bagage later kon ophalen. Er werd geen uiterlijke tijd genoemd waarop dit moest gebeuren. Toen ik op 2 augustus 2026 rond 00:32 uur terugkwam om mijn bagage op te halen, begon de medewerker van de nachtdienst eerst rustig mijn gegevens te controleren. Dat begreep ik volledig en ik heb overal aan meegewerkt.
Tijdens het gesprek sloeg zijn houding echter plotseling om en werd hij agressief. Ik heb meerdere keren rustig uitgelegd dat ik alleen mijn eigen bagage kwam ophalen. Uiteindelijk heb ik zelf de politie gebeld omdat de situatie escaleerde.
Toen ik mijn bagage ging ophalen terwijl ik nog met de politie aan de telefoon was, kwam de medewerker agressief naar buiten, schold mij uit in het Italiaans en Engels en bedreigde mij vervolgens in de lift met de woorden:
“Wacht maar. We hebben je adres in het systeem. Dan zul je wel zien wat er met je gaat gebeuren.”
Daarnaast zei hij dat ik mij niet als een “prinses uit Frankrijk” moest gedragen en dat het personeel niet voor mij werkte. Ik begreep deze opmerkingen totaal niet, omdat ik de hele tijd alleen rustig en geduldig had gevraagd of ik mijn eigen bagage mocht ophalen.
De politie is uiteindelijk fysiek ter plaatse gekomen. Ik verzoek de eigenaar vriendelijk om de camerabeelden van 2 augustus 2026 rond 00:32 uur te bekijken, zodat onderzocht kan worden wat er tijdens de nachtdienst is gebeurd.
Om duidelijk te maken over welke medewerker mijn melding gaat: het ging om de jonge Italiaanse medewerker van de nachtdienst, met kort donker haar, veel tatoeages op zijn armen en in zijn nek, gekleed in een zwart hemd en een korte broek.
Ik wil benadrukken dat mijn ervaring met de overige medewerkers juist erg positief was. Daarom richt deze review zich uitsluitend op dit incident. Door wat er is gebeurd, zal ik persoonlijk niet meer terugkeren. Ik hoop dat de eigenaar deze melding serieus neemt, zodat andere gasten – en met name soloreizigers – dit niet hoeven mee te maken.
