"Very good location, close to both the station and the supermarket. Easy choice for anyone interested in exploring Nikko. One minor critique on the tap/shower head of the bathroom being slightly too small for ample waterflow and temperature adjustment, but overall will not impact the quality of your stay and thus no stars deducted. Place is very clean and organised, with additional things offered free of charge that will be explained to you at reception. Staff is also multilingual for those who are concerned."

"An excellent hotel, even without an elevator, I'd still give it full marks. The food is delicious, and the location is directly opposite Stop 28, with the pier for boat tours just across the way. The scenery is beautiful, and you can even see the rich mineral content in the outdoor hot spring. Although the hot spring pools are a bit small, there aren't many guests (due to the limited number of rooms), so I had both the indoor and outdoor hot spring pools all to myself. The water was perfectly hot and very comfortable. The staff have excellent English, making communication easy and pleasant. A small incident occurred: I left the balcony window open and forgot to close it properly. After dinner, I found a large number of mosquitoes had flown in. I contacted the front desk, and they immediately moved me to a new room and helped me move my luggage. Truly a very friendly hotel!"

"Convenient place. It’s just a 5min walk from the Tobu Nikko station (the station you would arrive in if you rode over from Asakusa). It’s a premium stay that has a public bath. In the rooms you have even lotions and face washes and overall the hotel feels very new. The breakfast that comes with the stay is decent. Had vege curry with rice, hard boiled eggs, salad, bread with jam, fresh milk.  It’s very near the bus station that takes you to most sightseeing areas in Nikko. You should find out about their busses at the tourist information center because the busses are not registered in Google maps!"

"The hotel locates nearby Nikko, the world herritage area, just 4 km. from the hotel. Our room is very big, clean, and good maintained. There are 5-6 private onsen rooms, available and enough for guests. The hotel owner gave us warm welcome and services with very reasonable price. "Lovely hotel. The female receptionist is so kind. It is a little far from the station and main roads, but ok if you have a car. The shower and bed was excellent. It has free tea and coffee but you need to buy your own breakfast things from 7/11. Most outside breakfast places open at 9am or 10am and were nothing special. There is an excellent steak place 400m uphill from the restaurant, but you need the reception to make a booking. It is very expensive, but extremely high quality. The Italian downtown is fab. Try the carbonara, salad, gnocchi, duck and tiramisu. Next to it is an excellent sushi place called Komekichi Kouzushi which is great, but the Italian restaurant was the winner."

10 minutes to Kegon Falls. Enjoy skillfully produced full-course meals at this lake view inn.Attentive service, clean facilities, comfortable environment, the best quality service and the most comfortable accommodation. Please come with your family and friends to spend leisure time together. We look forward to your visit and we will be happy to help you.

"For approximately HKD 1600, the package includes Western-style lunch and dinner for two (high-quality ingredients, delicious food), and complimentary family-style hot spring (time to be arranged upon check-in). The bedroom faces the lake of Chungzenji Temple. Transportation is extremely convenient; it's just a short walk to the hotel by bus. Huayan Waterfall and Chungzenji Temple (with its standing wooden Kannon statue) are within walking distance. I was driving, which made it even more convenient, as there are ample free parking spaces. All staff are friendly and flexible (breakfast was originally at 8:00, but they changed it to 7:30 because I was in a hurry). This is a highly recommended hotel. The restaurant has a romantic ambiance with an electronic piano, making it more suitable for couples, lovers, or those seeking a tranquil getaway."

Step back in time to the Edo period at Hotel Kosho, a 95-year-old traditional Japanese ryokan just a 10-minute walk from Nikko Toshogu, the city's most famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. Guests sleep on futons in authentic tatami rooms overlooking a Japanese garden, and unwind in the open-air forest hot spring bath (rotenburo), open evenings and mornings. A traditional multi-course kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast, prepared with local Tochigi ingredients, can be added to any stay. Rinno-ji Temple, the sacred Shinkyo Bridge, and the historic sites of Mt. Futara are all within walking distance, while Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls are a short drive away. A free shuttle service from Tobu-Nikko Station, free private parking, and free Wi-Fi make Hotel Kosho the ideal base for exploring Nikko — old-school hospitality is the true luxury.

"Very good hostel, better than in the pictures. We had a room for 4 people with private toilet, only the shower to share. The onsen is very clean and contains two pools inside and outside. Two washing machines and two dryers are available with additional payment. Kitchen is big and clean. The hotel is far from the main activity of Nikko (Nikkō Tōshō-gū and a hike with waterfalls). The train system even if you take Nikko pass in Tokyo is not perfect because it requires to take additional tickets for an express train, because it is not included in the pass."

"A traditional Japanese hotel, the package includes one night and two meals. The food and portion sizes are very thoughtful, the room is quite large, and although a little old, it is still well maintained. The hot spring is a highlight and worth soaking in. Although the hotel is named Toshogu, it is still some distance away from Toshogu, so you must pay special attention to this. "

It is far from Tobu Niko station and relatively close to the main attractions. Of the pluses, two private onsens can be accommodated in two or three. One is laid out with a tile, the other is stone (used by a great demand, understandable case). If you take the onsen, no one will enter it anymore. To let the guests know whether the onsen is free and which special signal lamps are made, it is convenient. The Onsens work from 16 to 23 hours, so it is impossible to get down in the morning. Like I think, the water is cold and the rooms are closed - I love outdoors. The breakfast was unexpected, but they are fed exclusively with different baking (for a long time, so many tests have not eaten). It is also possible to buy frozen dishes for cheap and immediately distribute them in a microwave. In the bathroom and toilet room, the yucata is issued on demand. A beautiful living room where you can sit in the evening (if not too many guests). Here, where to sit in the street evening, it is not very clear, because near the Onsens there is a smoke zone with shops, but there is not a very nice smell.

The hotel is actually closer to Kinugawa-Koen Station; it's a bit of a trek from Kinugawa-Onsen Station, and it's an uphill walk, so I wouldn't recommend it if you have luggage. Overall, the hotel is decent, typical for a one-night stay with two meals. Both meals were substantial, though they featured no high-end ingredients, more like refined, simple fare. The onsen (hot spring) had everything you'd expect, and the water quality was good. A unique feature is the hotel's collection of Western and Japanese dolls, which adds an artistic touch. However, for those who don't appreciate them, they might find them a bit creepy! The Kinugawa River flows right behind the hotel's garden, and the sound of the rushing water is indeed quite loud. Finally, it's not that the cleanliness was bad, but I caught four crickets in the room over one night. If they had been cockroaches, that would have been unacceptable. Perhaps it just means the local ecosystem is thriving?!

I spent at Kaniyu 2 nights and absolutely loved it! Upon my arrival, there was an English-speaking staff member at the reception, Mr. Tamaki, who kindly upgraded my room for free - thank you so much for that! The room was spacious and clean. It was a bit cool inside, but the heating system worked really well and warmed up the room quickly; the controls were very simple and convenient to use. The futon was comfortable, the blanket was warm and cozy, and although the pillow was a bit too firm for me, I slept just fine without it. The room was equipped with everything needed: towels, yukata for changing, bathroom amenities, and more. Both breakfast and dinner were made from a variety of fresh ingredients — everything was delicious and filling. I tried many dishes for the first time and really enjoyed them! The stuff was very nice and friendly, a canteen lady who helped me to take a picture was very kind! The onsen was absolutely amazing. The hot, milky water was incredibly relaxing (not that smelly for my taste), and the cool outdoor air felt refreshing. I visited it after sunset as well, and it was an unforgettable experience: chilling in hot springs while watching night sky and listening to forest sounds. --- To sum it up, if you're looking for a peaceful retreat off the beaten path and for affordable price, then this place is absolute gem~ P.S. l was mesmerized by the road trip to the Kaniyu itself: mountains, rivers and lakes, a troop of monkeys on the side of the road, tunnels, a hairpin turns and so on.

The BEST hostel I ever stayed in! If you are staying in Lake Chuzenji in Nikko you got to stay here. It is a hostel within a hotel so it is very clean, safe and very big. The staff are very friendly and everything is amazing. They have a free onsen + a lounge with drinks, tea, wine, coffee, and ice cream bars that you could take! They have a microwave too if you need it and a hot water dispenser. The hotel is right in front of the lake so you know you’re gonna have a good time! The bus station is also right in front and if you are parking they have plenty of space! You have to come here. I will come here again!

The location is really good. 10 mins away from the station. Easy to find. Big hotel, about 11 floors. The room is quite spacious, part in western style with beds and part in japaneese with tatamis. There is sink in themiddle of the room, quite comfy. Good view to the mountain and forest from the window, 9th floor. Nice yukata to wear, i liked the outerpart. Breakfast and dinner is buffet, quite big choice, free beer for dinner, not so many fruits, no cakes for breakfast (dinner only). There is sushi and sashimi choice, delicious food. Onsen is quite good, clean, big. Will recommend to stay here

The exterior of the hotel is pretty, but the interior of the hotel is dated and needs a bit of updating. There were parts of the hotel that were completely shut down (maybe there are saving up enough money to one day renovate). However the facilities and rooms are well maintained and the onsens are beautiful and peaceful. There are 2 main onsens, that are separated by men and women. Each day the onsens are switched, in the morning you will go to one, and in the evening before dinner you can experience the other onsen. Onsite there is a really nice restaurant and gift shop that featured local products at reasonable prices. There is a 24 hour coffee/tea station that is free to use. It's a short 10 minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. When you arrive they provide you a yukata to wear while you are staying at the hotel. The rooms are spacious with options for a western bed or japanese style (sleeping on the floor). We opted for the western bed to be higher off the ground as we thought it would be colder to sleep on the ground. Although the rooms are very well heated and was a bit too warm, that we needed to open the window to cool the room down. The rooms have nice views of the countryside. They provide a pitcher of ice water in the room and you can go to the front desk to refill with ice if more is needed. The bathroom is quite large and has both a shower and toilet in a separate room of the bathroom; although we mostly bathed in the onsen. There is a 7-eleven nearby that was open 24 hours, but otherwise there isn't much else around the hotel. Also the town of Kinugawa Onsen closes quite early, around 8pm it's quite deserted. We were there at the end of November 2024, and it seemed that the hotel was mostly unoccupied, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was a very nice one night stay.

I don’t understand why someone would leave a negative review due to their own negligence. Trip.com clearly mentioned the additional 300-yen tax (I assume this is the onsen tax) per person, yet they still claimed they were “scammed.” My overall experience at Hotel Euro City was wonderful. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the shuttle bus service was amazing. If you want to get to the hotel easily, check the shuttle schedule on the hotel’s homepage so you don’t have to walk from the station. They run it every day at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, and 18:15 from “Nikko Station Hotel Classic,” right next to JR Nikko Station. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the onsen in the backyard was great. It’s true that the room had a mild smell, but I assume it was due to recent pest control (it smelled like pesticide). Just open the windows for a while and it goes away. Breakfast was okay—not as fancy as in the advertisements, maybe because it wasn’t peak season. Overall, I think this is a very good choice, especially if you’re traveling with family.
