#InsomniaInExhibition
"nostalgia for unity", an exhibition that takes us to the realm of rebirth from ashes, by artist Korakrit Arunanonchai and curators Stefano Rabolli Panzera, Mark Chiaravanont and Jemmika Sindhavalai
The artist was inspired by the history of the Thai Wattana Panich building, which used to be a textbook printing house that caught fire and became an old building. The artist sees this building as a giant body that is decaying with time and has rebuilt the heart of this giant body from the remaining ashes, using negative space as the important medium of the exhibition. He sees the intangible thing in this piece as a phoenix.
In this exhibition, the artist explores old concepts such as the overlapping of beginning and end, decay and rebirth, the connection between individual enlightenment and social spirituality, using the story of animism and the characteristics of the church to create a space that combines elements of prayer, intention and ritual, all connected through the movement of the viewer.
This exhibition takes us back to the memories of the past. Let us feel the memories that surround and float in the empty space. Listen to the resonating prayers. Feel the beauty in the emptiness. The light in the room is filtered through the stained glass and the smoke that reminds us of the colors of air pollution from science fiction and current reality. And read the prayers that are embossed from the floor.
