Wat Phra Bat Ming Muang Worawihan, Phrae Province

Wat Phra Bat Ming Mueang Worawihan is a royal temple located on Charoen Mueang Road, Mueang Phrae District. It is the only royal temple in Phrae Province. It is considered the spiritual center of Phrae people. Inside the temple is the Ming Mueang Chedi and the place where Phra Phuttha Kosai Sirichai Maha Sakyamuni, a sacred Buddha image of Phrae, is enshrined. Inside is the principal Buddha image made of stucco in the Lanna style of Phrae. There are also many interesting Lanna items and old photographs on display. The most outstanding object is a scripture embroidered with silk, which was embroidered and offered by Mae Chao Bua Lai, the wife of Phra Phiriya Thep Wong, the last ruler of Phrae, to Wat Phra Bat Ming Mueang. It was built around 1955 by combining two ancient temples, Wat Phra Bat and Wat Ming Mueang. At present, this temple enshrines Phra Phuttha Kosai Sirichai Maha Sakyamuni, the sacred Buddha image of the province. Inside is the Ming Mueang Chedi, an old chedi with a replica of the Buddha’s footprint. It is also the location of the Ya Khop Memorial Foundation in memory of Ya Khop or Mr. Choti Phraephan, the late writer who was the last heir of the Phrae ruler. This large and striking wooden building is called Ho Kham Sung. The interior is open for visitors to pay homage to.
