#2024Travel Review According to legend, Master Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, inherited the mantle from the Fifth Patriarch of Huangmei and went south to live in seclusion at what is now Donghua Zen Temple. Therefore, there is a saying that "Donghua enlightens the Tao; Nanhua spreads the Dharma"! I was lucky enough to visit this place in person. As soon as I entered the mountain gate, I saw a Maitreya Buddha. Visitors were greeted on both sides by two rows of square stone pillars engraved with the "Infinite Life Sutra" on the left and right. Climbing up the stairs to the Sanmen Hall, there is a strange peak on the Tianwang Mountain on the right side that looks like the Buddhist protector Wei Tuo Bodhisattva. It has protected the temple for thousands of years, so the temple has also placed offerings and incense to support it every day. The two generals "Humph" and "Ha" in the Sanmen Hall also revealed the secrets of meditation (breathing is the key point in getting started with meditation). Donghua Zen Temple occupies a large area, including the Mahavira Hall, Manjusri Hall, Buddhist Sutra Pavilion, Billion Buddha Hall, Zhengjue Hall, Cultural Museum, Medicine Master Hall... and so on. When we walked to the Mahavira Hall, the masters happened to be chanting sutras and doing evening lessons. The Zen temple not only strictly selects the conditions for Buddhist disciples, and inherits formal Buddhist meditation and retreat courses, but also allows sightseeing tour groups to connect with the general public.
